We are in Puglia, in Gargano, off the Adriatic coast. in the archipelago so beloved by the artist Lucio Dalla "How deep is the sea....:" There must be a reason why the artist Lucio Dalla composed some of his most famous songs on these islands. The Tremiti Islands are still one of the most beautiful places in Italy. Little known by the people of Puglia themselves here you find a deep crystal sea with shades of blue and green that surprise you with every dive. I enjoyed the most beautiful sea of the Tremiti by renting a tender, by stopping at the most magical places, snorkeling, exploring the caves. There are so many of them, whose depths give you unimaginable vegetation and undersea rocks that are even more beautiful than what is visible on the surface. The archipelago is not at all fashionable , it is stuck in the 1980s although lately there are many open construction sites and renovation works to make the islands more usable for everyone, thanks also to the mega funding obtained from the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, P erhaps for this very reason, it remains unspoiled and boasts crystal clear waters. I love the Tremiti Islands and have included them in my top list of the most beautiful places in the world. For some people it is just a day trip. Here the sea is amazing. For me at least three to four days by boat is a regular stop I love to make every summer of my life. There are so many bays and caves to discover, which characterize it and make it unique, and they are always beautiful to see again. The best of an island in my opinion is only experienced by staying there to sleep, when the hustle and bustle goes away. I have been there 5 times and for a more intimate experience I preferred to stay the last time on San Nicola Island, which of the two inhabited islands is definitely the smaller. Discovering caves, especially underground caves During the day you go to the sea. By boat/dug boat is the best way to discover and explore the area looking for the coves inaccessible from land. Besides the well-known ones, Grotta del Sale, Grotta delle Viole, Grotta dell'Elefante, and Grotta delle Rondinelle that you can see in this updated INFOTREMITI site, there are many coves you will fall in love with; Drop anchor and relax exactly as soon as it happens. The underwater one is an experience not to be missed for anything in the world while vacationing in the Tremiti Islands. With the dinghy, anything seems possible: sleeping, swimming, snorkeling and feeling on a deserted island while appreciating the silence SLEEPING ON THE ISLAND OF SAN DOMINO OR SAN NICOLA? San Domino is the largest and most touristic island, so if you love going out in the evening, you will have bars and piano bars available here. The atmosphere is 80s style. Choose San Nicola if you love the quiet life and silence and especially if you like the idea of having an experience in contact with the islanders. In the years since I have been visiting the Tremiti Islands, I have stayed on both islands with different solutions. Follow your instincts and choose according to your mood of the moment. We stayed in San Nicola in Antonio's small apartments. Minimal but basic apartments with refrigerator and mini kitchen (it is not the comfort island even if you go to Hotel) but we had a great time. It feels like staying with a family. T his island is perfect for those who like authenticity with no glitz, If you want to live in a medieval setting, with no evening events but just the sound of the sea or chatting with neighbors disconnecting with the world and reconnecting with yourself and nature, you are in the right place. Contact him by emailing him on my behalf antoniotremiti65@gmail.com O n where to sleep I have made contacts on the spot, which is the easiest way to find accommodation, or I recommend you check out this brochure dedicated to the Tremiti Islands TUTTOINTASCA.IT In the past, I have also stayed in San Domino at the BB LE RONDINELLE . Minimal rooms here, too, but completely surrounded by pine forest and vegetation. Excellent international breakfast. A nice option if you go in a group. In the past I have also stayed at ' Hotel Kyrie a few meters from Cala Tramontana , which can be reached on foot via a footpath. The only time I have stayed on this island only for 1 night, with my sister, it was sold out and very expensive. Read Best of GARGANO RENT A RAFT We rented an inflatable boat in St. Nicholas with IN GOMMONE CON SIMONE However, there are many companies that offer you rentals or excursio ns, located directly on the pier, in both Islands. They cartel among themselves. Therefore unless you go in low season, no one gives discounts. The rental price varies depending on the season, on average you pay 80 euros for the whole day (until 6 p.m.) in low season while 120 euros in high season . The island is small and all activities are seasonal and familiar. Simone for example in the daytime sea entrepreneur, in the evening chef indeed "Master Chef" in his mother's restaurant DA ENRICHETTA seafood restaurant also in St. Nicholas, in my opinion the best on the island from all points of view.. DINING TO SAN NICOLA As soon as you book your lodging on these islands, immediately reserve a table for dinner hoping to find at least one available in the 30-seat pastry restaurant DA ENRICHETTA at the foot of the Abbey.. Genuine but top-notch restaurant has maintained its simplicity despite a menu of the highest standards and sophistication . Family-run. As soon as you arrive Enrichetta immediately tells you the catch of the day that the sea offer s, the price, and how she can cook it for you. She suggested scampi to us, and we had them in a sauce with spaghetti alla chitarra. Go there. Enrichetta is the pastry chef, and she has a dessert menu worthy of a star: try the Neapolitan pastiera and cheesecake. Enrichetta's father helps at the tables and Simone in the kitchen. The fried cod simply melted in the mouth. In San Nicola you can also eat very well at the ristorante Architiello da Carolina restaurant known for the quality of the excellently processed raw material, try and I guarantee you will not regret it, their classic but very tasty spaghetti with clams, a dish that is never missing from the menu and is the ultimate scarpetta. Full details for purchasing tickets with NAVITREMITI can be found here TAKE THE CAB BOAT BETWEEN THE ISLANDS AT LEAST ONCE For travel from San Nicola to San Domino and back depending on where you sleep and if you want to do some nightlife there is this very convenient service. We decided with my sister to spend a whole day aboard a fishing boat with the cook on board. A surreal and fantastic experience to say the least. It was in 2019 The following year I returned with colleagues and wanted to repeat the experience with them as well. On the fishing boats (which you can catch from the San Domino pier) you can both sunbathe and enjoy the bounty of seafood, cooked directly on board. The formula on the fishing boats where I had the pleasure of having this experience is more or less similar. Mega table set for lunch with appetizer of bruschetta, urchins and fresh fish, mussels. First course pasta with fish and mussels and seafood, second course catch of the day. In between white wine, seafood lunch and tours among the most beautiful coves in the archipelago, we enjoyed the day in the company of perfect strangers. And yes, In the boat there are about 15 places available. The first time there were 2 of us, me and my sister. The second time with colleagues we were 5. In both cases we joined in. I recommend it to do at least once. SHOPPING AT CONVENIENCE STORES ON THE ISLAND In the Tremiti Islands it is common to have a bag lunch to take by boat or by the sea on the rocks. There are some interesting markets, small but stocked with the essentials - Market Fentini - trovate tutto per una buona spesa - Minimarket Shop 88 (bazar e market essenziale) SNORKELING NEAR THE SUBMERGED STATUE OF FATHER PIO I had not brought the Go Pro, however, I assure you the excitement was great when I saw it with the mask on! I borrowed this picture from colleagues. With her arms outstretched and looking skyward: this is the image I found underwater when I caught sight of the famous Padre Pio statue in the Tremiti Islands. It was not so easy to spot it. Then diving in with mask and tube we made it. The sculpture, made by Foggia-based sculptor Mimmo Norcia, was laid on a concrete base in the seabed of the island on Oct. 3, 1998, between Caprara and the Tremiti Island of San Nicola. It lies 13 m deep and was cleaned of fouling and algae in 2016 to restore its splendor. You immediately understand where it is because there is a cluster of boats nearby and people diving in hopes that the water is not murky. It is surreal to see numerous small fish swimming around it, almost as if they want to keep company with the Pugs' most beloved saint The statue is truly imposing and striking: about 3 meters high, weighing 12.25 quintals of bronze, plus 110 quintals of base, with arms outstretched and looking skyward, as if inviting swimmers to join him for a fleeting greeting . SEA BAPTISM OR DIVING WHEREAS, I snorkel which I am a big fan of (with mask, tube and fins) but I have never dived as I am a big wimp. However, it is one of the most popular activities to do in the Tremiti Islands because of its fantastic seabed to say the least. I would like to point out the possibility of taking courses to get certified or simply approach the seabed with the wonderful BAPTISM OF THE SEA (at a cost of 80 euros) with AQUO DIVING . The baptism of the sea consists of a 40-minute dive completely attached to an experienced instructor who helps you with your breathing preventing any possible panic attacks. In San Domino there is also a DIVING CENTER the formula is the same for them as well. Always better to save this number too, in high season everything is always full EXPLORING THE ISLAND OF SAN DOMINO: WALKING, BIKING, HIKING San Domino is the largest island in the archipelago and the one with the most amenities for tourists. It is also the most important island, entirely covered with Mediterranean scrub, has only one sandy beach, Cala delle Arene (25 euros the location with 2 sunbeds and an umbrella) behind the harbor. Here are some of the island's most beautiful rocky coves that can also be reached via a marked hiking trail (for enthusiasts). As soon as you arrive at the port of San Domino, the climb to the center of the island is challenging You have two choices . Pay 5 euros for a transfer that takes you to the center of the island (recommended choice if you have luggage and children) Make the short climb on foot, tough but doable, after 15o mt it becomes flat and gives breathtaking views In San Domino there are 5 hotels (Hotel Levante, Hotel La tramontana, Hotel Le Viole, Hotel Eden, Hotel Kyrie, Hotel La Pineta) and multiple apartments or room rentals or lodgings, which is the most popular mode of vacation accommodation used by tourists on the island. There are several restaurants on this island, as well as small restaurants or bars. There is also a bar that serves as a disco for those looking for nightlife ( La Fenice and A Furmicula). During the day, the island offers unique views with beautiful coves and caves: don't miss Cala delle Arene, Cala Matano , where artist Lucio Dalla's villa is located and has been rentable for the past few months. Manuela Lenoci, Cala Matano Lucio Dalla tremiti Cala Spido - we arrived by a raft is wonderful (richly vegetated setting in which I took my first swim) Cala degli Inglesi, Cala Tamariello. San Domino is also rich in caves such as Bue Marino, Viole or Rondinelle caves or Grotta and Cala dell'Elefante and Grotta Architiello One of my favorites is the Spiaggia dei Pagliai - from this link you can see the videos I made on this Island Trekking routes in San Domino The Mediterranean macchia and Aleppo pines are the stars of the island's vegetation. In San Domino if you are a walker and the high heat doesn't scare you, there are several trekking routes, some I practiced, others I discovered by asking locals for information. All lead to the lighthouse, but from different directions. San Domino Lighthouse It starts from a small rural village in the center of the island consisting of modest colonial-style houses. Three roads depart from here, the central one is referred to as “the pine forest road,” it leads through the forest, first climbing to the Romito Chapel and then descending to the lighthouse. The western route From this route passing through the pine forest you will meet: Cala degli inglesi, Cala dei Benedettini, Punta Secca, the Grotta del Bue Marino and then you can get to the lighthouse by following a marked coastal route The Levante Route This route runs along the east coast and will take you first to Grotta del Sale, then to Grotta delle Viole, Punta di Ponente, the Grotta delle Murene and then straight to the lighthouse. Wear TREKKING shoes and take water, food and fruit with you; there are no refreshment stations along the route. TAKE A PICTURE FROM THE WINDOW OVERLOOKING THE ISLAND OF SAN NICOLA The fifth time in the Tremit i I spent time on the island of San Nicola . It is the place where I experienced the history of the Tremiti Islands. When you get there, the climb from the harbor to get to the living village is rough. It is steep with a pavement. Doing it backwards is likely to be slippery. Uncomfortable, but the achievement is worth all the difficulty. The toughest is the first climb after which wearing sneakers everything becomes easier. Here is the Fortress and the Abbey of Santa Maria a Mare . (oggi un cantiere aperto per via dei finanziamenti ricevuti dal ministero dei beni culturali ) Before the fortress, a window overlooking the island, a must stop for a photo. These are the main attractions besides the Knight's Tower of the Crucifix and the mysterious tomb of Diomedes about which so many Legends have arisen. From here I was able to admire some of the most beautiful sunsets . In no other corner of the Tremiti Islands will you be able to enjoy the unique panorama that stands before your eyes as you ascend to the Fortress. "In the heart of Imperial Puglia, a land favored by Emperor Frederick II of Swabia, lies Corato, part of the Parco Nazionale dell’Alta Murgia . It is home to giants of the gastronomic industry." Corato, located in the heart of Imperial Puglia, is a perfect blend of modernity and tradition. Here, giants of the gastronomic industry—like Pasta Riscossa , Gruppo Casillo, Pastificio Granoro , Caseificio Maldera, Taralli Fiore , Gruppo Cannillo ) harmoniously coexist with the city’s medieval roots , dating back to the Norman conquest in the 11th century, which still shapes the city’s landscape today. Several wineries in the area, such as Cantine Torre Vento t  specialize in this grape. The city's motto Cor Sine Labe Do li  ("Heart Without Stain of Betrayal"), displayed beneath the city’s emblem, was a noble title granted by Conradin of Swabia. This is in recognition of the heart-like shape of its historic center, which inspired the Norman Pietro to name it “Corato” when he took control of the settlement in 1046. INFO Parrocchia di Santa Maria Greca   Visit the Tomb of Luisa Piccarreta, the "Servant of God" In the underground sanctuary of the Parish of Santa Maria Grec a, the remains of the " Servant of God" Luisa Piccarret a are preserved, and a beatification process is underway. Her story is extraordinary. Around the age of 13, she had a vision of Jesus, who, while carrying the Cross on the way to Calvary, looked up at her and said, " Soul, help me ." From that moment, an insatiable desire grew in her to share in Jesus’ suffering for the salvation of souls. At 16 , she took a vow to offer herself as a victim of atonement. She would remain immobile in bed for days, only able to move when a priest would trace a cross on her body. Born in Corato (Bari) on April 23, 1865, despite only completing first grade, Luisa Piccarreta began writing a daily diary on February 28, 1899, at the instruction of her confessor, Father Gennaro De Gennaro, who served as her confessor for 24 years. Recognizing God’s inner work in her, he ordered her to document everything that Divine Grace worked within her. Her diaries are collected in a manuscript spanning 36 volumes. The last chapter was written on December 28, 1938, when she was instructed to stop writing. Her final confessor, Father Benedetto Calvi, remained close to her until her death in 1947 at the age of 81 Bike Rides with Murgia a Pedali Exploring the Murgia on a bicycle and uncovering local identity through a unique cycling adventure is a must-do in Corato. According to popular culture, the " Murgese horse" was once a fundamental element of the local economy. L 'Accademia nazionale di arte equestre "Il nero luminoso" di It is also known, and especially celebrated, for the " equestrian shows" it performs throughout Europe. The archaeological site is located 5 km southeast of the town center. To book a visit, you can contact the Pro Loco Quadratum di Corato Close Encounter with the Coratina Cultivar - Terre di Coratina Association From olive's picking to guided tours in oil mills, including tastings and tasting courses, educational workshops for families and children, walks among the olive trees, picnics in the olive groves, and much more. Necropolis and Snow Church of San Magno It is possible to take a guided tour through these two sites, which bear witness to the historical layers of the city of Corato, showing human presence since prehistoric times. The San Magno Necropolis i s one of the most important necropolises in the Alta Murgia National Park The two sites are located about 16 km southwest of the town center. From the website PARCO DELL'ALTA MURGIA   You can book your guided tour by directly contacting one of the 20 specialized guides Book a Visit to the Church of San Vito de Templo La Chiesetta di San Vito de Templo è uno dei monumenti più importanti di Corato Ubicata ora nel nucleo abitato, la chiesetta “ San Vito de templo ”, sorgeva in origine nei pressi della antica Via Consolare Appia-Traiana , costruita tra la fine dell’XI secolo e l’inizio del XII sec. Visita al Duomo, Chiesa di S. Among them, there are two that preserve frescoes of different styles The oldest are probably visible in the church of St. Eligius, On the left wall, a pair of saints, St. Ephrem and St. Erasmus, can be seen, represented in a Byzantine style, in hieratic poses and on flat, decorated backgrounds. STROLLING WITH AN UPWARD GAZE TOWARD THE WORKS OF SANTERRAN STONEMASONS Via Roma, Via Netti, Via Iacoviello, are the streets where the curiosity of the nose-in-the-air walker is most likely to be tickled. Carved shelves, arch keys and rosoncini are the typical places where, between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, stonemasons showed off their skills by depicting devotional, fantastic or good-luck subjects. Vito Calabrese first and especially Giovanni Laricchia are the most prominent names. The latter started a real school of stonemasons and then also operated in Gravina di Puglia and finally in Bari where he became one of the leading names in the art of stone-cutting. In Santeramo some of his work can be admired in the decorative apparatus of Palazzo Santalucia-Tangorra designed by Orazio Santalucia himself, a designer famous in the Puglia Capita l for the Kursaal of the same name and the Oriente hotel. In this itinerary dedicated to sculpture, a visit to the Mother Church in Piazza Garibaldi is worthwhile, where, in the third chapel of the right side aisle, a 15th-century bas-relief by Francesco Laurana depicting a Madonna and Child is kept. Works by contemporary sculptors, on the other hand, are those of Armando Mele and Antonio Paradiso, the latter's works can be seen at the Parco scultoreo La Palomba in Matera while in Santeramo they are placed in Piazza Giuseppe Simone , at the entrance to City Hall .. WALK TO DISCOVER THE QUITE OF SANTERAMO The “quites” have a romantic and fascinating history. Walking through this area of the murgia where you can touch the sacrifices of the peasant society of the time is an experience you absolutely must have. Today the quite are a great testimony to nineteenth-century rural architecture, they are lots bordered by dry stone walls and propped up with haystacks, born in 1806 exactly on September 1 following the enactment of a law by the public domain that satabilised their division into “quotas” or rather the “quotization” from which they take their name. The division obviously took place to encourage farming activities at the same time as the slow abandonment of the practice of transhumance. Landing stage of the Cammino Materano, one of 7 on the Via Peuceta, which runs from the Basilica of San Nicola in Bari to Matera. We are located north of Santeramo, in the direction of Acquaviva. Here we find the Masseria Galietti , built in 1767, surrounded by a large pine forest of about 20 hectares enclosed by a large wa ll.. Inside the park there is the tree of thoughts, where it is possible for the walkers of the Materano Walk to enclose their thoughts and emotions inside small hanging bottles. The smallest municipality in the Parco Nazionale dell'Alta murgia and the metropolitan city. Many people hardly know this Apulian village of not even 1,400 inhabitants capable of expressing one of the castles of the “Frederician triad” Although it is not one of the most celebrated and famous tourist destinations in Apulia, this town in the Parco Nazionale dell'Alta Murgia, gives visitors an authentic experience among the picturesque Murgia landscapes and the genuine flavors of local products. A visit to Poggiorsini is without a doubt an experience that engages all five senses, the quietness and natural sounds are capable of creating a relaxing atmosphere, the air is often filled with the smells of traditional food, flowers or fragrances typical of the area adept at making you feel the breeze on your skin as you explore the village. Poggiorsini is the smallest municipality in t he metropolitan city , but its landscape offers a breathtaking mix of peaks, flatlands and watercourses, which are already rooted in the name of the village-for example, “Poggio” from the Latin “podium,” rising, while “Orsini” refers to the family that held possession for as many as 300 years. Nestled in the Bari Murgia, this municipality has been independent since 1957 after having been a suburb of Gravina fino a quegli anni, Poggiorsin i gained its autonomy and the title of European municipality, now boasting its own mayor and town council. Before becoming independent, it was owned by the Orsini family from 1609 to 1910, a period in which the village was transformed from a rural settlement to an urban center with new structures such as the parish church and the ducal palace. Let's not forget that Poggiorsini was chosen as a film set by Luca Medici-Zalone, who a few years ago put down roots in this locality on Raffaele Genuario's livestock farm, for a scene in the film TOLO TOLO. As also Matteo Garrone chose it for a scene in his famous “Pinocchio.” In my column "A portata di Manu"   I offer you ideas, experiences and itineraries as well as things to do if you come to these parts whether you are a foreign visitor or a tourist at home . In the article (next to each experience) are all the references for booking tickets or excursions or guided tours in the area . Crossing the corridor of the Casale Orsini Starting in 1609, the town of Poggiorsini became the private property of the Orsini family, Dukes of Gravina, under the name "Poggio degli Orsini." They transformed this rural settlement into an urban center, equipping it with necessary infrastructure and services. Duke Michele Antonio Orsini commissioned the construction of a manor farmhouse (the Casale di Macchia Vetrana or degli Orsini, known in dialect as "U Crtur ") for shepherds and laborers seeking employment and residence. This farmhouse is unique in its kind, a building used as a colonial residence, built around the 1920s and connected to the Ducal Palace, which later completely collapsed due to the violent Vulture earthquake of 1930. They are well-known, as they stand in a row on the hill. They are most likely remnants of the post-World War II land reform, which, through a significant process of expropriation and redistribution of large estates, led to the creation of numerous small properties, many of which were gradually abandoned in the following years. These houses are more scenographically distinct than the many others scattered across the rural landscape of Poggiorsini due to their perfect alignment rising from the ground , making them ideal symbols of both the hopes and failures of the southern recovery program that the state attempted to implement around 1950. Participating in the patronal feast of Mary Most Holy Our Lady of Sorrows. Addolorata. It is held every year on August 11 with lights, songs, and dances . There is no documented evidence of the historical origin elevating Addolorata as Poggiorsini’s protector; the legend and tradition are what remain. The statue of Addolorata was ordered in Naples by a wealthy landowne r from Spinazzola for a church in Spinazzola. The statue was transported on a cart pulled by oxen, and after a long and exhausting journey, it was caught in a violent storm near Poggiorsini. T he cart driver was forced to take shelter in the “Taverna,” located near the current railway station, as explained by a plaque from the time (1600), marking it as a rest stop and horse exchange for travelers. However, after the storm, the oxen refused to continue toward Spinazzola and instead persistently took a path leading to Poggiorsini. When the locals learned of this, they decided to adopt Addolorata as their protector from that moment on (Cenni storici, fonte: http://www.festadellamadonna.it ). The port of Molfetta , on the other hand, has always been an important commercial hub and is the most important from a fishing point of view in the entire lower Adriatic; it seems no coincidence that the old cathedral, a grandiose example of Apulian architecture, overlooks the port. • Top 10 things to do in the Seychelles Islands.

What to see in Seychelles ? What to do ? What are the beaches not to miss? Read my guide so you don't miss the best of these dreamy islands An eco-sustainable paradise in the heart of the Indian Ocean... The Seychelles invites you on an incomparable journey through the wonders of one of the most fascinating archipelagos on the globe.  On unspoiled beaches, surrounded by glistening coral, sea turtles  and exotic plants, it is wonderful to enjoy the warmth of the sun. It consists of 115 islands  that are partly granitic and partly coral. Here nature reigns supreme, with uniquely shaped beaches framed by majestic pink granite boulders and vividly colored corals. The major islands are Mahè, Praslin and La Digue . I have visited them all. Where the Seychelles Islands are and how to get there  The Seychelles  islands are a paradise nestled in the Indian Ocean.  This archipelago boasts a variety of natural attractions, including idyllic beaches, lush vegetation, breathtaking coral reefs, nature reserves and rare creatures, such as the Tartaruga gigante di Aldabra Mahé , with its capital Victoria , is an ideal starting point for exploring the other islands. However, it is important to note that the trips to the other islands, which you absolutely cannot miss, are expensive for transportation  and life on these islands takes place mainly during the day.  Not to be missed for any reason is the   covered Sir Selwyn Selwyn - Clarke Market .  Visiting the town's market is a mouthwatering opportunity to see the life of Sychellesians  up close . For an African market, it is not very large. It is proportionate to the size of Victoria. Fish is the big star, but there are also many spices and fresh vegetables. The best time to visit is definitely the first half of the morning. Also not to be missed The Arul Mihu Navasakthi Vinayagar  Temple is a unique structure in Victoria, It was built in 1992 and is the only Hindu temple in Seychelles. The temple was dedicated to Lord Vinayagar, also known as Ganesh or Ganesha, the god of new beginnings and the remover of obstacles. .   So don't expect this destination to be like Formentera. theSeychelles Islands  are a true paradise exactly because they are far from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Ideal for couples, honeymooners and those looking to regenerate in touch with nature. Restaurants close their  kitchens very early, generally by 8:30 p.m., and in the evening there are no major events or activities to do, these islands are the perfect place to truly unplug. BY AIR   The airlines  that make the cheapest connections from Rome to Mahe Island  are operated by 8 airlines.  The airlines that make the cheapest connections are Ethiopian Airlines  (€531.99), Turkish Airlines  (€537.26) and Emirates  (€562.99) We departed with Emirates to Rome Fiumicino via a stopover in Duba i. The airlines that make the cheapest connections from Milan to Mahe Island are Ethiopian Airlines  (505.06 €), Turkish Airlines  (538.75 €) and Qatar Airways  (649.27 €) you stop over in  Dubai  and the total travel time is 14 hours . Local currency   Seychelles rupee  (SCR) Tropical climate, warm year-round. Temperatures average around 32 degrees during the day and below 20 °C at night Time zone  2 hours ahead of Italy Top 10 things to do in the Seychelles Islands . The Inner Islands are favorite destinations for tourists and   offer a wide choice of resorts and accommodations. Unfortunately, they are also known to be very expensive, but they offer a dream experience. Our trip began with a flight from Rome to Mahé with Emirates . Then on to Praslin  and finally La Digue . The main islands are connected by ferries .   Between Mahé and Praslin there is also an air link  operated by Air Sychelles  (15-minute flight). In Mahé and Praslin  one travels by rental car  (driving is on the left) or by transfer  or  cab , which in our case was the ideal solution. It is also possible to get around by public bus .  In La Digue , on the other hand, one gets around by bicycle .     How can I hail a cab in Seychelles? Cabs  are available at the port, airport , and other places on the islands. There is no single phone number for cabs, but I can provide you with a few  for your convenience. Also, you can book a cab through the staff at your accommodation or the restaurant where you are dining. Mahé Cab Services: Tel. 2526038 Seychelles Taxi Touring: Tel. 2535694 Sey Discovery Tours: Tel. 2630481 A cab ride of about 20 minutes  can cost about 20 euros  (for example, from the airport to the port of Mahé ). Usually cabs are metered , but if this is not the case, it is advisable to always agree in advance on the price with the driver.   How to reach the islands and move between them?   Between the islands , the main means of transportation is by ferry . Daily connections between Mahé, Praslin and La Digue are available, but they come at a high cost, perhaps the largest expense after lodgin g. (70 euro one way) It is advisable, especially during peak season, to purchase tickets before leaving from Italy.  We purchased our tickets for all routes from a travel center in Victoria  as soon as we arrived on the island. Below I leave contact information. Elite Club - Miss Raisa Orphe Office A3  Bel Etang Building Mont Fleuri Victoria, Mahé, Seychelles Tel:  +248 432 11 22 Email:  info@eliteclubseychelles.com reservations2@eliteclubseychelles.com - marketing@eliteclubseychelles.com   Web:  www.eliteclubseychelles.com   Traghetto Mahé <> Praslin : durata ca. 60 minuti, costo ca. 60 € Traghetto Praslin <> La Digue : durata ca. 15 minuti, costo ca. 20 € Traghetto Mahé <> La Digue : durata ca. 90 minuti, costo ca. 75 €   In most cases, getting to La Digue from Mahé (or vice versa)  requires taking a ferry that stops in Praslin . I recommend that you always book your ferry tickets in advance Where to stay in the Seychelles Islands? We have been to these islands in December, which is THE  most expensive time to travel to Seychelles , especially between Christmas and New Year's Day,  with rates that can double. After the holidays, prices drop significantly, then rise again in April. In July and August , there is a further increase in prices. February and March , on the other hand, represent the cheapest months to visit the Seychelles. We departed from Monopoly, and planned our trip to visit the archipelago's three fascinating islands-Mahé (1 night), Praslin (4 nights) and La Digue (5 nights). For our stay, we preferred small local accommodations , small residences, room rentals by booking in advance from Italy as well as from Booking.com  there are reference sites dedicated to these islands that I found very useful and that I recommend you to consult specialized sites about Seychelles such as Seyvillas   or Seychelles SiTours Also download    the VISIT SEYCHELLES app   to find accommodation to suit all budgets and needs. Mahè Upon our arrival in Mahé , we were greeted by an intense tropical storm  that characterized our first two days on the island. However, the rains here are intense but short-lived. From the airport, we took a cab to our Beau Vallon Villa Chalets  apartment ,  booked through Booking. Mahé  is renowned for its white sand  beaches, some of which are located right in the famous Beau Vallon Bay , which is why we chose to stay on this side of the island.  Finally, we were able to relax. In addition, Mahè is known for its scenic granite relief, most notably the Morne Seychellois,  surrounded by lush rainforest and home to the natural park of the same name ( which I hope to see the next time I return to the Seychelles Islands) . Dinner  time finally arrives and we are suggested a great place, minimalist and typically local, with an open buffet offering fish, barbecue and Creole cuisine . We decide to stay still in the  Beau Vallon  area and head to the Boat House  Restaurant    Lots of fish, vegetables and rice. Excellent Un giorno al St Anne Marine Park   The day after our arrival, we participated in a boat excursion from  9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in St. Anne Marine Park , which includes six islands but is only allowed to visit Cerf and Moyenne  in the day. We booked Captain Michel   's boat , DOLPHIN NEMO (which you can contact by clicking on this Link - or write dolphinnemo10@gmail.com )  at  Marina Charter in Victoria .    St. Anne Park  is easily accessible from Victoria by boat , just 5 km off the coast of Mahé,  and is the oldest marine protected reserve in the Seychelles. So much variety of fish!  I think snorkeling in the Seychelles  was one of the best of my life. The rocky seabed of the archipelago is rich in marine life. After enjoying a succulent fish BBQ   on a dream beach , in the afternoon and after a deep sleep under the trees, we returned to the hotel. An interesting little detail: dishes and crockery are washed in the sea without the use of any kind of detergent.   In Mahè  some beautiful beaches are Beau Vallon  and Anse Takamaka,  Anse Intendance (southwest) a very pretty little beach near the luxurious Banyan Tree  resort ideal for watching the sunset, which we did not see because the sky was a bit overcast. You can book a tour of the most beautiful beaches directly at the port of Mahè  when you arrive (the agencies all make signs and the price is always the same for everyone) the cost can range from 70 to 110 euros  per person depending on the season. If you have time you can venture into the striking rainforest of Morne Seychellois National Park. Praslin   After taking the ferry from Mahé,  we traveled for 60 minutes  and spent 60 euros  per person to get to Praslin , where we spent four nights. This crossing will remain indelible in my memory.  Very high waves, surging sea. It was impossible to get up. The feeling of the stomach during seasickness is like an internal turmoil . A mixture of emptiness, discomfort and sometimes a feeling of impending nausea. I felt that tingling in my hands characteristic of someone about to faint . I assure you that the whole boat was struggling dangerously due to the adverse weather conditions. .   During our stay, we admired some of the most beautiful beaches on the island. Our lodging was Mango Lodge  area Anse Volbert  with a beautiful sea view, a beach within walking distance and an excellent (savory) breakfast. We spent four days of pure relaxation on the beautiful Anse Volbert Beach,  just a 12-minute  walk from our hotel.   As soon as we set foot on this island, we recovered and soon after adjusted to the leisurely pace of the islanders. Our journey to the beaches so much dreamed of  since our days in Italy, we felt, was just beginning. It is one thing to expect to find crystal-clear waters, granite rock formations, inviting sea and the chance to snorkel among turtles . The other is really finding them and diving in forgetting all about them. It really is a dream vacation,  a common desire for many Italians to leave for these destinations during the winter months. Treating oneself to a tropical getaway during this season is a gift that everyone deserves to experience. Visita guidata a Vallee dei Mai Nature Reserve    An entire morning was devoted to visiting Vallee de Mai Nature Reserve It is a protected nature reserve  located on this island. Since 1983 , this area has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage  Site for the uniqueness of its more than 1,400 specimens of  the legendary Coco de Mer  palm ,  with the largest fruit  in the world. This type of palm grows wild only here in Praslin  and Curieuse , the oldest specimen is about 300 years old and 27 m tall.     Afterwards, we spent the entire afternoon on Cote d'Or Beach,  which was only 6 minutes  away from our accommodation.  For ease of travel, we arranged with the hotel owner  to hire a chauffeur-driven transfer that took us to visit different beaches for two days. Visitare Anse Lazio, spiaggia iconica dell'isola   Before saying goodbye to the island, be sure to visit Anse Lazio, one of the most enchanting beaches in the world . Anse Lazio is an icon of the Seychelles, with its golden sand glistening in the sun, clear waters , and waves that accompany you along the shore. The smooth rocks here are as smooth to the touch as caresses. A heavenly beach with white sand and turquoise water. Here we sunbathed, swam countless times and let the waves lull us (there is always a gentle breeze). A magical place, perfect for enjoying spectacular sunsets that dye the sea orange. Enjoying the sunset is always worth it, especially if you are in good company. Snorkeling da Ille Curieuse e Isolotto di Saint Pierre  If you like swimming or snorkeling I invite you to take this boat trip to Ille Curieuse and Islet of Saint Pierre.  We relied on Bruno - Infinity Charter;  From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  with transfer from hotel to meeting point round trip and soft drinks on board. Of course, almost all boat tours include the always popular and great quality fish/meat BBQ on the beach. In addition, we were provided with all the necessary snorkeling  equipment. A  ten-minute boat ride takes you to the islet of Saint Pierre . I remember having one of the best snorkels of my life in the Ille Curieuse . We swam ashore in dreamy waters to walk to the giant tortoise  breeding center. Beautiful!!! The turtles roam freely around the park and beach and you can get close to them. We saw the  Aldabra  giant tortoise . Where to dine. Seychelles cuisine, also called Creole  cuisine , is exotic, simple, a little spicy, fresh and young. A Full Fusion  in which you can find French, Indian, Chinese, English and Italian dishes. Most of the dishes are based on the two raw materials that do not come important and are local, we are at the equator and on an archipelago, we are talking about Fruits and Fish.   The main ingredient  and always used, with fish, meat and vegetables is Rice.   Rice with Curry is of course the dish you find everywhere.   For dinner, after a long day of sea and boat, we were hungry . We chose to pamper ourselves and stayed at Lauriers Restaurant (Les Lauriers Eco Hotel) Usually restaurants often offer a traditional Creole buffet with grilled fish and meat specialties, salads, various kinds of curries, and delicious desserts.   The  buffet is available every day, with the exception of Wednesday evenings. At lunch and on Wednesday evenings, several a la carte options are available. Here I remember having a fabulous crab soup served with sweet potatoes. Usually the fish is served with a tomato Creole sauce flavored with curry and coconut milk (70 euros per person)  -including swimming in the pool in the afternoon. We stayed at La Goulue in Anse Volbert  a small restaurant with a bar and nice view that offered delicious Creole and Caribbean specialties at a good price .   that distinguish them from other places in the world.  Average price per person for a day (10 a.m.-6 p.m.) with a meal (lunch or dinner) cocktails during the day, water, fruit and a few snacks as well as pool use and relaxation costs you about 300 euros per person.  (Of course there is also the spa and much more...) Even here for dinner, I had crab soup and the best crab of my life Taste the famous and local RUM TAKAMAKA that has become world famous and take a souvenir back to Italy. La Digue   Last   stop, last island, One of my favorite islands in the World.  A 15 by ferry from Praslin is La   Digue .  We go to the hotel   The Transfer picks us up from the port as agreed before arriving with the hotel owner. We carry our luggage and head to our Guest House Etoile Labirine  (you can also make reservations by sending an email to info@etoile-labrine.com ).Here as per our understanding, they also let us find the Mountain Bikes  that we have reserved for our entire stay on the island (I believe 15 euros per person per day). La Digue  charms with its immense pink granite boulders rising above enchanting beaches of pure white sand. With few hotels and numerous small guest houses hidden among the trees, this fantastic island offers an ideal retreat for those who wish to completely unplug.   In  this little paradise, cars are virtually absent and most people, locals and tourists included, travel by bicycle. For a breathtaking experience  that will remain indelible in the memory, we visited the beach voted the most beautiful in the world: Anse Source D'Argent, the real attraction of La Digue . This place is famous for its huge granite boulders surrounding small sand dunes, all shaded by majestic coconut palms. Spiaggia "Anse Source d'Argent"   A real must for anyone visiting the Seychelles!  The beach can be reached through L'Union Estate Park,  for which you pay a daily entrance fee of 150 rupees - 9.60 euros per person. From there you then simply follow the signs with directions. The shallow turquoise waters, white sandy beach and towering granite rocks make Anse Source d'Argent one of the most photographed beaches in the world. In fact, scenes from such films as “Emanuelle,” “Robinson Crusoe - The True Story,  ‘ ’ Cast Away ,” and the famous Bacardi commercial from the 1990s  were filmed here .  , As you enter this park, you can both get lost and isolate yourself, but also if you want to there is a lovely area full of amenities, you will find little cafes and beach huts, with background music accompanying the moment of relaxation while enjoying a freshly prepared drink with fresh fruit, or savoring some local food.   How wonderful!   We spent two whole days here.   Also defiladed, there are small stores, all in the form of gazebos, where you can buy handicrafts or handmade jewelry. And don't forget to organize an excursion by renting the famous Crystal Water Kayaks to explore the surrounding waters.   La Digue by bicycle La Digue  is the smallest of the three main islands and is also one of the most idyllic. This is mainly because bicycles are the main means of transportation. Many accommodations on La Digue offer bicycles for rent. In most cases you can rent them directly upon arrival. If your accommodation does not have them, you can rent them from one of the official bicycle rental stores located around the port. Map in hand! The real vacation for me was this. I found it great that you could ride a bike while enjoying magnificent ocean views. In addition to the famous beaches that you absolutely must see and swim Anse Cocos beach - Anse Severe - Petite Anse - Anse Cocos - Grand Anse, biking along the trails, you will discover countless beaches, often deserted, perhaps only reachable on foot, Dive in. By boat between the Coco, Felicitè and Sister Islands.   I know I will sound like a repetitive, but this was a  fantastic excursion for me , where we had  the best snorkeling of the trip . And I assure you that the other snorkels had been wonderful as well. But not like this one. I had contacted Nevis Ernesta,  a very special local guide. His motto “More than just a boat trip, I want to share my island” You can also contact him at these references - whatapp 00248 2515557   email nevis_ernesta@hotmail.com    web   Excursion Ladigue From 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. departing from the harbor included two snorkel stops walking island visit and a fantastic BBQ. While snorkeling we saw sea turtles.  I felt like I was a child again. To make the snorkeling experience truly unforgettable, Nevis used bread as bait.  He would throw numerous pieces into the water that attracted a multitude of colorful fish, creating a lively scenery around us as we dived into the water. I will always remember when, after the walking tour to  Sisters Island,  we had difficulty getting back to the boat because there were small white sharks swimming  near the shore . Although they said they were harmless, it was not enough to keep us from fearing the worst. Nevis  escorted us swimming, bringing the boat as close to shore as possible. Tappa ad Anse Severe e al Bikini Bottom Beach Bar   Anse Severe  is beautiful both because of the beach but also and especially because of the atmosphere around this wonderful Bikini Bottom Beach Bar  run by an American girl, Islana , who left her country a few years ago and moved with her brother to La Digue  where she opened this wonderful little bar where they eat and well and it is an ideal meeting point for vacationers. It is very central and here we spent a whole morning in the company of locals. .   BBQ on the Beach with Jean Luc Rosette. His motto is “ No Panic.   Everything is organic."   We met this chef. Jean Luc Rosette, at Bikini Bottom. One night he arranged for us to have a seafood BBQ on the beach at Anse Severe. It's a good experience, we are still in touch on Insgtram. • Tenerife for Gourmets: Where to Eat and What to Taste on the Island

The Best Seafood, Canarian Cuisine and Traditional Dishes Restaurants in Tenerife: A Selection Not to be Missed Tenerife is an explosion of colors and incredibly wild landscapes, but the real journey on this island begins at the table! The island's cuisine is an irresistible mix of Guacinche traditions, African influences and Latin American touches, especially Venezuelan. Traditional Guacinche cuisine is experiencing a revival. Many local restaurants are reintroducing old recipes , (like in Puglia for potatoes, rice and mussels or other dishes of the poor cuisine whose recipes always have a secret ingredient). Tenerife in 4 Days: Itineraries, Suggestions and Tips to Discover the Island Tenerife recipes are often cooked using indigenous ingredients to create dishes that hark back to pre-Hispanic times. Tenerife's culinary scene is slowly transforming, fusing modern techniques with traditional flavors, reflecting the old world in a new light. Here, food is history, culture and conviviality: fresh ingredients, simple but flavourful dishes and a warm welcome that makes you savour each dish with gusto and curiosity. From the legendary wrinkled papas – potatoes cooked in salted water, served with the very tasty mojo picón The most famous sauce in the Canary Islands, present in almost all typical dishes of Tenerife. There are two varieties: picón (made with red pepper and sweet pepper) and verde (made with green pepper and coriander). Gofio , a mixture of toasted cereals handed down from the Guanches , also has an authentic and unique flavour. The Canary Island plantain is the archipelago's most exported product and one of the islands' most famous tropical delicacies. Plantations are everywhere and easily visible from the road . If you love meat, try rabbit with salmorejo , a very tender and spicy specialty, while for a comfort food with an ancient flavour, ropa vieja is the perfect dish: chickpeas, potatoes and meat in a mix of spices that conquers you at first taste. But the real secret of the local gastronomy are the guachinche , the traditional taverns of the north of Tenerife, born to accompany the island's wine with home-made and abundant dishes. Here, between a glass of volcanic wine and an authentic banquet, you can experience the real Tenerife. • Tenerife in 4 Days: Itineraries, suggestions and tips to discover the island

Discovering Tenerife. Must-See Attractions and Tips for Your Trip to the Canaries Tenerife is an island that really offers something for everyone, in every season of the year. I decided to spend four days discovering its different faces , combining nature, culture, relaxation and of course the sea. My trip began in Puerto de la Cruz , a lively city that mixes modernity and tradition. Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands, the mild climate reigns all year round. Here you will find a variety of landscapes ranging from golden beaches to volcanic mountains, and equally microclimates that can suddenly transform a few kilometers away. This island is an ideal destination for all types of travelers. In addition to its natural beauty, it offers a fascinating local culture, warm hospitality and a cuisine that deserves to be discovered 4 Day Itinerary in Tenerife Photo swimming pool hotel Coral Teide Mar Day 1: Arrival in the evening and immediately a taste of Paella Tenerifiana We arrived in the late afternoon and immediately took advantage of the last light of day to walk around Puerto de la Cruz, between the natural pools and the lively centre overlooking the sea . We stayed at the Coral Teide Mar in one of the most famous residential areas of Puerto de La Cruz, just 15 minutes walk from the picturesque centre of Puerto de la Cruz , To toast the beginning of this holiday, we stop to sip the first sangria in a restaurant with terrace Aquanama Cocktail Bar Even though there wasn't much light left to fully appreciate the view, the terrace overlooked one of the most beautiful beaches in the heart of the city, Playa Sant Elmo , and the adjacent Lago Martianez. The air was crisp—ok, let's just say it, freezing! And of course I was totally unprepared. But no worries: the blankets on the chairs in the club were our salvation, enveloping us like a warm hug while the waves seemed to chase each other a step away from us, almost as if they wanted to join the evening. I recommend you come back during the day because this beach is fabulous and is an integral part of the town center. As we continue our walk, the music captivates us and, without even realizing it, we find ourselves in front of a small bar with an irresistible name: La Griferia Paella & Cocktails. The atmosphere is cheerful, the place is full of locals—a clear sign that they really eat here! We can't resist and, in a moment, we are seated with a table full of tapas. But the real star of the evening is our first paella of the holiday: we choose the Tenerife one , a dish overflowing with shellfish with a lemony scent that, as I write, makes me want to book the next flight back. Breakfast at El Molino de la Paz Tenerife: Complete Guide for an Unforgettable Stay in the Canary Islands Day 2: Los Cristianos, Daikiri on the beach and fresh fish for dinner Wake up slowly and have breakfast at the little bar in front of our hotel El Molino de la Paz If you happen to be in the area, try their tostadas , sweet or savory: simple, but perfect to start the day. The staff is so friendly and welcoming that we went back twice… and on the last day we couldn't leave without stopping by to say hello. While we were there, we had a sandwich made for us for the journey home: I had the Italian style, with jamón, mozzarella and tomato; my partner, with his iron stomach, opted for tuna and onion! CLICK HERE You can see all the videos on INSTAGRAM Then off we go! We take the car and head south, destination Los Cristianos. Finally the sea! After an endless winter in penguin mode, putting my feet in the water was a beautiful moment. I swear, I felt it all the way to my soul. And of course, I couldn't resist: off with the swimsuit, topless without regrets, because a half-tan is not an option. The water? Fresh . After all, the Atlantic Ocean , not a spa. But after the first shiver of " am I really doing this crazy thing? ", the magic happened: a liberating dive and that irresistible desire to stay there, cradled by the sea and then stretch out in the sun like a happy lizard . We also took a walk on the seafront, which turned out to be a real treat: palm trees, tropical flowers and that holiday atmosphere that makes you feel like you're in a beautiful movie. And then… the grand finale: mango daiquiri at the lido bar. First sip, heavenly freshness. Second sip, sweet euphoria. Third sip… and poof, the afternoon transformed into a golden bubble of lightness, where everything was more beautiful, brighter . The sun seemed warmer, the sea sang a perfect melody and, let’s face it, life had that extra touch of magic. In the evening we went to dinner at a fish restaurant in the hinterland of Tenerife Marisquería Agua y Sal in San Miguel de Tajao that, if you are in these parts, you absolutely must try. A true hidden gem, far from the tourist circuits, frequented mainly by locals. The fish? Very fresh. The atmosphere? Authentic. And the bill? More than honest. An experience not to be missed! If you are staying in Puerto de la Cruz in the morning you should warm up your muscles every morning before breakfast by walking: "Paseo San maro" - Le scale di Agatha Christie a La Paz Ogni giorno, dal Mirador a La Paz, salivamo le scale per tornare in hotel, sempre a salire per mantenerci in forma e ammirare le frasi artistiche sui gradini . Day 3: Breakfast with a view, Las Teresitas by the sea, UNESCO site San Cristobal de La Laguna Today is one of those days that make you smile without even realizing it. It's my birthday, and guess what? I celebrated it right here, in Tenerife with breakfast in one of the hotels on the Paseo de la Costa with one of the most beautiful terraces on the island Atlantic Mirage Suites And on top of that, it happens to be Sunday. I mean, it's like the universe is saying, "Here, take a moment to really enjoy life!" CLICK HERE You can see all the videos on INSTAGRAM Today we decide to stay in the North, because, as we know, the North of Tenerife has something magical. And so, off we go to one of the most famous beaches in the area: La Teresitas. The name itself seems to promise an unforgettable day, and it does not disappoint. The golden sand, the crystalline waters... it is the place where every thought dissolves in the sound of the sea. A perfect birthday, I would say. If you want the perfect view, go up to the " Mirador Las Teresitas" : from here the view of the beach and the village of San Andrés is priceless, especially at sunset. The beach can be reached from every part of the island by car, as I already told you there is a large free parking lot adjacent to the beach. Also right next to the beach there is the bus stop (line 910) an excellent public service, efficient and frequent. Convenient especially if you are in Santa Cruz. Our afternoon was very lively. Since I didn't want to spend the day without any energy, we decided to rent a two-seater kayak, convinced that it would be a calm paddle. And in fact it was... more or less. Which, let's face it, was more of a competition with my partner to see who could paddle better and establish the direction than a relaxing paddle. In any case, the bay was spectacular, with calm and crystalline water. Obviously we went for a swim. First impact? A sudden chill. But a few seconds are enough and everything changes: the water becomes perfect, so pleasant that you don't want to get out anymore. And in fact, I didn't want to get out anymore. And after a day at the beach? Before dinner we went for a walk in the nearby San Cristóbal de La Laguna. When we arrived in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, after a day of sun and sea, the cold hit us like a punch in the face. It seemed like we had gone from the tropics to the Arctic in just a few kilometers! But then we entered the bars: warm, lively, full of people laughing and drinking. In an instant, the cold was just a distant memory San Cristóbal de La Laguna E' stata la prima città delle isole Canarie, e finora l'unica ad essere dichiarata Patrimonio dell'Umanità dell'Unesco. And finally we went to dinner in a typical Canarian place in the northwest of the island La Hierbita and here I blew out my candle on a homemade chocolate mousse. Happy Birthday to me! Day 4: Trekking in the Anaga Rural Park and QUAD to discover Teide, waiting for the sunset You can't say you've experienced Tenerife without exploring the Teide National Park , home to the highest volcano in Spain (3,715 m), the "roof" of Spain , the park's real attraction. CLICK HERE You can see all the videos on INSTAGRAM To visit it, remember that only 200 permits are granted per day, so if you really want to visit Teide and climb to the highest point in Spain, you should book in advance. (Info and prices for going up by CABLE CAR) there are also more than 41 marked trails for trekking and enjoying the view alone. Every step you take in Teide is a discovery and arouses immense amazement. We were won over by the Quad Tour in Teide, an engaging, exciting and, yes, absolutely fantastic experience. We relied on Quad Excursions , among other things the only ones authorized to do quad tours in Teide . 3 hours of adventure and pure fun in safety. The perfect climate, the truly expert organizers and the landscapes that revealed themselves one after the other, with centuries-old trees and colors that seemed painted, made it all truly magical. An adventure that I would recommend to anyone! Although we didn't spend much time in the northeast of the island, there is the Parque Rural de Anaga , a lush forest that reminds us of Irish landscapes. We were only here for an hour but we promised ourselves to return more calmly next time. There are several panoramic trails that pass through thick forests. Great for walking, regenerating in nature and discovering the nature of the North of the island. For many it is considered a magical forest. • Bridgestone Italy and Women's Empowerment: Lunch Break with Women Leaders of the Sector

On the occasion of Women's Week , I was the special guest of a special talk , a moment of reflection and discussion on the female role in the world of work and in society. There is a special energy in the air when a woman speaks up and tells her story and inspires those around her. On March 11 , at the Bridgestone Italia plant in Modugno , that same energy was felt. On the occasion of Women's Week , I was the special guest of a special talk , a moment of reflection and discussion on the role of women in the world of work and in society. The call of the Apulian industrial engine, between production lines and technological innovation, have intertwined with my story. Bridgestone is among the leaders in tire production, ranking among the top five brands in the sector at European level. Evidently we both grind out kilometers every day. But the company does not stop there: for a long time it has also been working to offer an important contribution to its people and the territory in which it operates. Today its production in Europe is in Bari, Italy , but also in Spain, Hungary and Poland . In addition to CSR (corporate social responsibility) activities, it is implementing projects dedicated to DE&I (diversity, equity and inclusion), and the invitation to me was not accidental . Managing Director Salvatore Carluccio , who has always been attentive to the issue, promotes and personally participates in these initiatives. My professional journey, made of courageous choices and changes of direction, was at the centre of the discussion with Bridgestone's female and male employees. In the company canteen, transformed into a sharing space, I spoke with the HR Business Partner of Bridgestone Italia Manufacturing SpA , Donatella Ontario, focusing on an essential reflection: the evolution of women in the world of work. " It's not just about equal opportunities, but about a real change in the collective mentality. A woman's success should not be seen as an exception, but as a normal possibility, on par with that of a man " I emphasized and I saw in the eyes of the people in front of me the interest and awareness that something is changing. The freedom to choose your own path is the real revolution . " At 20 we think we've found our path, but at 40 we might discover that it's no longer the right one. And that's okay. The most important thing is to listen to ourselves, understand what makes us feel good and find a way to make it part of our professional life, " I said. "Today we have the choice. It hasn't always been this way. Our mothers and grandmothers couldn't imagine certain opportunities, while we can be entrepreneurs, artists, scientists. We can choose to work, not to work, to reinvent ourselves. It doesn't mean it's easy, on the contrary, it's very difficult, but this freedom is a revolution" The challenges remain: credibility to gain, the conciliation between professional and private life, the weight of expectations . " If we are assertive, we are aggressive. If we are empathetic, we are too emotional. If we are nervous we have our period, if we are exuberant we must learn to step aside, if we are well-groomed and good looking we want to be the center of attention. The real change will come when we no longer have to justify our presence, our voice, our ambitions. " I saw many heads nodding, many people seeing themselves in my words. Then, a personal question: "How would you describe yourself?" I smiled. " I define myself as a very determined but terribly insecure person. To overcome insecurity, I study twice as much as others: this makes me calm when I face any type of talk or challenge. Even the simple presentation of a book. I read everything in order to lead the reader confidently into the story. For example, when I arrived at your company and I understood that I was the "Special Guest" with my name on the LED walls I thought - I hope I don't disappoint your expectations ". I perceived an immediate connection with the audience: how many women have recognized themselves in this need to prepare themselves more than others to feel up to the task? The meeting became an open dialogue about challenges and opportunities, about the difficulties of balancing career and family, and about strategies for finding your balance . " It's not always easy, but I've learned that when you're really passionate about something, you find the time, you find the energy. I stopped seeing work as an obstacle and started seeing it as part of my journey. Sometimes I just leave for a weekend, other times I work remotely, but every experience turns into a story to tell" Among the questions received, one touched on a crucial point: how can we educate the new generations to see men and women as equals? My answer was clear and direct : " By setting an example. We can teach with words, but what really matters is the way we live. If a child sees a father and a mother treat each other with respect, he will grow up with the idea that equality is natural. If a girl sees a woman who asserts herself without fear, she will know that she can do it too. We must teach boys that strength is not domination and girls that kindness is not submission. Change starts with us, every day ." I saw eyes light up, thoughts set in motion. The message came through loud and clear: stop looking for perfection . "Perfection is an illusion. Having more confidence in yourself is the secret. And above all, don't wait for the right time to live: the right time is now. You don't have all the answers, you just have to take the first step and create your own path. Listen to your inner voice and follow it. The rest will follow." The message I left may still resonate within the walls of the factory : " Fear never goes away, but the regret of not having tried is much worse. Don't wait for the right time to be yourself. The right time is now ." Bridgestone, a leader in the industrial manufacturing sector for years , has demonstrated with this initiative its commitment to valuing people and promoting a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion. Equity and inclusion are not just corporate projects, but are part of the DNA of Bridgestone and those who work there, a principle that is reflected every day in the lives of its people.

  • Indian Wedding: India Meets Puglia. The Perfect Wedding? A Mix of Two Cultures

Puglia has all it takes to become a top destination for Indian weddings , but training and adaptability are needed. In the elegant setting of BTM 2025 , taking place in Bari from 26 to 28 February, a fascinating debate on destination weddings was sparked , making future spouses and wedding planners dream. In the SAY YES area , arranged by Antonio Marzano director of Domani mi sposo magazine dedicated to the world of weddings, a panel focused on Indian weddings and the potential of Puglia as an ideal destination for Indian couples, especially those living in the United Kingdom. The meeting was moderated by the Apulian journalist Manuela Lenoci , who led a brilliant and inspirational dialogue with industry experts: Priti Raichura , a renowned Indian destination wedding planner based in London, the destination wedding planner Elisabetta Piccardi , founder of Say Yes in Italy , and Francesco De Palma , wedding coordinator of the suggestive Gattarella Resort in Gargano. The panel highlighted how collaborations between Indian and Apulian wedding planners are essential to accompany couples in choosing the ideal destination to crown their dream of love. Indian couples seek authentic settings, immersed in nature , among centuries-old olive groves and farmhouses with timeless charm, but also iconic places such as the trulli to tell the story of the wedding photo album. Indian couples want to experience a wedding that is a perfect mix between their culture and that of Apulia , where food plays a central role. While on the one hand they appreciate the Apulian food and wine tradition, on the other they do not want to give up the authentic flavors of India . Hence, the importance of collaborations between accommodation facilities and chefs specialized in Indian cuisine , to create a fusion culinary experience that satisfies both traditions. Red , a symbol of prosperity and light, remains the absolute protagonist of Indian brides, who dream of fairytale settings in red dresses. And what better element than the Apulian lights to make everything even more magical? The panel highlighted how these plays of light can create a perfect atmosphere for Indian weddings, combining tradition and visual spectacle . According to the panel speakers, Puglia has all it takes to become a top destination for Indian weddings , but training and adaptability are needed. Italian wedding planners must be able to accommodate specific requests and understand the depth of Indian rituals, transforming each event into a unique and unforgettable experience. Between promises of love, oriental scents and postcard-like Apulian scenery, India seems ever closer. The dream wedding? It's right here, under the starry sky of Puglia

  • Destination Thailand, where to go to discover the land of smiles

Everything you need to know before landing in Thailand: a journey through the wonders of the western coast overlooking the Andaman Sea From the heavenly beaches of the Andaman Sea to the skyscrapers and bright lights of Bangkok , Thailand is a journey that leaves its mark. Here, contrasts do not clash, they blend perfectly into nature : the crystalline water of the islands and the majestic green mountains . But the true heart of the country? Its people. Sincere smiles, warm welcome and a kindness that always makes you feel welcome. It is no coincidence that they call it the Land of Smiles: a title that is not just a cliché, but a promise kept. In my column "A Portata di Manu" I propose ideas, experiences and itineraries. Advice and suggestions to ensure a truly unique tour as well as some tips that could be useful to you as soon as you land in this land If it's your first time in Asia, some of the things you'll read may seem obvious, but approaching them with the right spirit will help you avoid those little hitches that are sometimes part of traveling . In this part of the world, the unexpected is the order of the day , and the ability to " stay zen" will allow you to enjoy every single moment. Let's start with the basics: when talking about Thai islands , the term “ Ko/Koh” (เกาะ in Thai script) always precedes the name of the island. This simply means “island.” Thailand is a true coastal paradise, with over 3,200 kilometers of beaches and 1,430 islands decorating its vast coastline. From the crystalline waters of the Andaman Sea in the west , where Phuket stands out, to the Gulf of Thailand in the east, the country is a tangle of various archipelagos. Some areas, such as Phang Nga Bay with its 67 islands , Mu Ko Chang National Park (52 islands) and Tarutao National Park (51 islands) , offer spectacular scenery and biodiversity that is a sight to behold alone. In the past, many of these islands were deserted, but today they are among the most sought-after destinations for tourists. WHERE IS THAILAND AND HOW TO GET THERE Map of Thailand In the heart of Southeast Asia, it is a land of contrasts and natural wonders. This fascinating country, which extends over a surface area that is more than one and a half times larger than Italy. Bordering Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Malaysia , it contains vast mountainous areas in the north, as well as coastal plains along the coast. The country boasts a long coastline and numerous marine islands. The country's tropical climate, soaked in ocean humidity, offers an eternal summer with temperatures ranging from constant heat to heavy seasonal rains. The airlines that fly to Bangkok from Rome with a stopover are Oman Air, Emirates, Eithad, Thai Airways, Turkish Airline. EgyptAir with a stopover in Cairo. While ITA Airway offers a direct flight. TIME ZONE, CURRENCY, E-SIM +6h compared to Italy; +5h when daylight saving time is in effect in Italy. The international prefix for calling Thai numbers is +66 (or 0066 ); To be connected throughout your holiday I suggest you the esim HOLAFLY unlimited data with just over 30 euros for 13 days you have infinite dates and calls (obviously the costs are reduced if you take out more subscriptions) PAYMENT METHODS IN THAILAND The currency in Thailand is the baht (THB), with an exchange rate of between 35 and 39 baht for 1 euro . If you can avoid it, do not change money in Italy, the exchange rates are not favorable. Upon arrival in Thailand, you will immediately find several exchange offices at the airport, but be careful: the rates here are generally worse than those you might find in the city. To get the best rate , it is best to exchange cash withdrawn in Italy directly at one of the exchange offices that are easily found in the city or in shopping centers in the main cities. Another option is to withdraw cash directly from local ATMs. (Exchange) In major cities, such as Bangkok, you will have no trouble finding ATMs. However, keep in mind that each withdrawal will cost you a flat fee of 220 baht , and the maximum withdrawal limit is between 20,000 and 30,000 baht, regardless of your bank's limit. Also, some banks may charge an extra fee, so it is best to check beforehand. When withdrawing, make sure to select baht as the currency and not convert to euros. And don't forget to enable your card for withdrawals abroad! Hotels, larger restaurants and shopping centres readily accept credit cards (some charge up to 5%), In many other places or on the islands you may need to have cash . This is especially true for family-run establishments, street food stalls and some local transport, such as tuk tuks. CURIOSITIES AND ODDITIES OUT OF THE ORDINARY Everything you need to know before landing in Thailand. These are just some of the curiosities you will encounter during your holiday. Bathrooms in Thailand instructions for use: In the south of the country you won't have any problems: the bathrooms are very clean and "Western-style". In the north, the toilets are often Turkish style. Toilet paper is prohibited in the bathrooms! And if you find it, you will have to use it as a towel after using the bidet shower. Once used, remember to throw it in the bin, not in the toilet! Attend a Ping Pong Show It is a type of sex show (tragi comic) in which women use their pelvic muscles to hold, expel, or blow objects from their vaginal cavity. Ping pong balls are the most iconic objects used. And the audience is provided with Ping Pong paddles to play. The show has been popular in Southeast Asia (especially Bangkok, Thailand) for several decades since the 1970s and is performed mainly for foreign tourists. In many cases the show is associated with sex tourism and concerns have been raised about the human rights of the performers. You will never find a knife on the table of a Thai restaurant , If you are a fan of Thai cuisine, you will have noticed that in Thailand restaurants do not have chopsticks and, in general, knives (unless it is a steakhouse or a tourist place, where you may be given one). Thai tradition is to eat without knives, using a spoon and fork. However, if you like chopsticks, in many restaurants you can still ask for and use them. North Pole Air Conditioning It is necessary to always carry something to cover your shoulders in your backpack, because every time you enter a shop, supermarket, taxi, and so on, you will feel like you are experiencing the onset of freezing! Thais like to keep the air conditioning at polar levels, and if you are not used to it, you could risk catching a cold. Ice is like the glass of water that accompanies the coffee at the bar (in Puglia) Ice is a ubiquitous element in Thailand: even if you don't ask for it, you will find it practically everywhere, even in beer! If you don't want it, be sure to say so in advance, Eating insects In Thailand, insects are considered a rather delicious dish and can be found quite easily as street food. Getting on a Tuk Tuk Riding a tuk tuk in Thailand is an act of courage that mixes adrenaline and picturesque charm, an experience that must be lived at least once in a lifetime. These three-wheeled vehicles, similar to the Italian Ape cars, are an iconic means of transport throughout Asia, with local variants found from India to the Philippines, from Sri Lanka to China. Fast, lively and a little chaotic, tuk tuks are the beating heart of Thai roads. STREET FOOD TO SCREAM Bangkok is like an open-air kitchen that never sleeps. A place where food is not just a pleasure, but a real life experience. Street food is one of the top reasons to put Thailand on your bucket list. While it is easy to get lost in the lively streets of Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket, it is very easy to be captivated by an explosion of smells, colors and flavors. Food is everywhere, always. People often eat standing up. Streets bustling with chefs, steaming pots and improvised tables: from breakfast before dawn to midnight snacks, people cook and eat non-stop. Pad Thai is the iconic dish of Thailand. It consists of stir-fried rice noodles with eggs, shrimp or chicken, bean sprouts and chopped peanuts, all seasoned with lime and chili pepper. Also unmissable is Khao Pad , a dish of stir-fried rice with vegetables, chicken, shrimp or pork, and often served with an egg on top. It is seasoned with lime and soy sauce, Isaan sausage . The roadside meat barbecues, LANDING IN BANGKOK Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport is the main airport in Thailand and one of the most significant hubs in Southeast Asia , along with Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. To reach the city center from Bangkok International Airport, simply board the elevated high-speed train line, inaugurated in August 2010, or take one of the Airport Express, a series of buses that allow you to reach many areas of the city. Finally, you can board the free shuttle buses that take you to the bus station, where buses depart for the rest of the country. As soon as you land in Bangkok, that humid heat overwhelms you. You feel it on your skin, intense and enveloping. It was my first trip to Asia, and that's how it all started, with the vibrant air of an unforgettable metropolis and the fascinating chaos of a country with a thousand contradictions. I left as a participant of Viaggi Avventure del mondo, in the THAI SOLE DISCOVERY tour 16 participants plus the coordinator Giulio Castiglioni. A group of new friends animated by the passion for the destination and with the same departure needs. In short, united by the values of V iaggi Avventure nel mondo. And then there is Bangkok by night, the one that never sleeps and pushes you to discover its liveliest and most unpredictable side. You can eat a bit of everything, at all hours . You try new things and let yourself go among lights and sounds: from clubs with music that invades the streets to sports halls where every evening you can watch muay thai matches. There are coffee shops (yes, in Thailand cannabis is legal, even if the issue is still much debated) and massage centers, where the traditional nuad phaen borarn – which means “touch to heal” – puts you back on your feet with just a few baht, starting from the tip of your toes up to your head. The neon signs overlap, creating a chaos of colors that slowly gives way to the light of dawn. And that's when Bangkok changes pace: the spotlight moves to the frenetic markets , the endless lines of cars and the ornate details of the temples. It's a city that never ceases to amaze you, at any time. ITINERARY: Destination Thailand, where to go to discover the land of smiles (Read Special Islands) After breathing in the scents and colors of Bangkok , I set sail for the islands. Postcard beaches, crystal clear sea, just like in the photos I had looked at dreamily on the internet. This is why this destination is so loved, especially by us Italians. The climate? Perfect. Sunny days, low humidity and rare rains. During the winter, the coast overlooking the Andaman Sea is a dream: here are some of the most beautiful islands, such as the Similan, Khao Lak, Phi Phi Island and the Surin nature reserve . An unmissable destination that conquers at first sight. Take a look at my itinerary that will take you to experience unexplored and lesser-known landscapes, enchanting beaches and timeless traditions. I discovered Thailand almost by chance and was immediately fascinated by it. It is a country that deserves to be visited several times to be able to appreciate it in its total entirety and beauty. The ideal months to go to this area of the islands overlooking the Andaman Sea are mainly the winter months, those from November to March. I was there in December , the high season, spending New Year's Eve in Bangkok. (Read special Islands) The attractions and monuments you have discovered in this blog are only a small part of what Thailand has to offer. Each of these itineraries are unique, driven by your curiosity and desire to learn about a place through its history and people. Travelling means opening yourself up to new experiences, being surprised by what you did not expect to find, and learning to see the world through different eyes. Sometimes, all it takes is an unexpected meet, a little-traveled road or an unexpected detail or simply a perfume to make the journey even more special. And with this in mind, I want to leave you with a quote that I keep in my heart:   Traveling is to be unfaithful . Be ruthless about it . Abandon your friends for strangers

  • Bangkok | Discovering the Thai Capital

Thailand borders Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Malaysia . During the winter, the coast overlooking the Andaman Sea is a dream for visiting the Similan Islands, Khao Lak, Phi Phi Island and the Surin Nature Reserve . The ideal place to start a trip to Thailand is from Bangkok, a unique city that knows how to welcome visitors in its own way, with an energy that never stops, not even at night. Bangkok is not only a frenetic metropolis, but also a place rich in history and spirituality, thanks to its extraordinary temples, true masterpieces of art and culture. After experiencing the intensity of the capital, Thailand invites you to discover another part of its soul, sailing towards the islands. Each island has its own personality: from the festive atmospheres of Phi Phi Island to the quiet bays of Surin, every corner is a little paradise. To truly immerse yourself in the essence of Thailand, the ideal is to dedicate at least 13 days or two weeks to this trip , so as to fully experience everything that this extraordinary country has to offer. In my column "A misura di Manu" I propose ideas, experiences and itineraries. Advice and suggestions to ensure a truly unique tour as well as some tips that could be useful to you as soon as you land in this land TRAVEL DIARY Day 1 - 2: We arrive in Bangkok on December 30th in the late afternoon Let's say right away that you can't leave Bangkok without having at least one street massage on Khaosan Road: 30 minutes of pure relaxation for only €6! We spend the first two days visiting the city. It is the city of contradictions where its thousand souls and types of people from all over the world coexist. Bangkok is an incredibly cosmopolitan city , and the cultural, political and commercial center of Thailand. We landed at Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi International Airport. We stayed at the 3-star Korbua House Hotel an area a few km from the center of Bangkok and immediately after checking in we immerse ourselves in the streets of the city. The local guide, Max Tiger, gives us an appointment in the nearby Khaosan Road (a symbolic road of the area) . Here we find with him a Money Exchange with a good currency exchange and we change the euros. We go to discover the city for the whole afternoon getting lost in its streets. We have dinner in one of the outdoor restaurants with tables on the street in Khaosan Road. KHAO SAN ROAD NOT TO BE MISSED Khaosan Road once a quiet rice market in the 80s, today the beating heart of Bangkok's international tourism Located in the Banglamphu district, this street became famous thanks to the book " The Beach" by Alex Garland and the film with Leonardo DiCaprio. As soon as you set foot on Khaosan , the lively atmosphere and cosmopolitan energy immediately involve you! Here we tried our first Pad Thai of the holiday. But there are many restaurants that also offer international dishes and endless bars where you can chat with other travellers. In short, here it is easy to always find an opportunity to have fun. Khaosan Road let's dispel the myth, It is not a dangerous area, on the contrary, it is the perfect choice for those looking for a dynamic adventure, full of opportunities to meet new people. After dinner we have our first experience in a three-wheeled Tuk Tuk that whizzes by like crazy to make you doubt that you will arrive at your destination safe and sound. Direction Patpong PATPONG MARKET Let's stop at the Patpong night market, where I guarantee you will find the most absurd and unthinkable things, for this reason you cannot miss it as it is surreal, The Patpong night market is one of the most iconic and popular places in Bangkok, located in the lively Silom district , the beating heart of the "chic" nightlife, that of the skyscrapers to be clear. A visit to Patpong is an unmissable stop for those exploring Bangkok, Although prices have increased and the quality of the products is no longer what it once was, the charm of the market remains intact. As I was telling you, Bangkok also comes alive at night. We take the TUK TUK and in 10 minutes we are catapulted to the Rooftop of one of the most beautiful skyscrapers in Bangkok. We go for a drink on the Rooftop of the Lebua Dome . Here they filmed a scene from the movie Hangover 2 , we go up to the Scirocco Skybar (the highest open-air sky bar in the world, located on the 64th floor of the State Tower : the view of Bangkok is spectacular and it is worth going there. BANGKOK IN 2 DAYS: WHAT TO SEE AND My time in Bangkok on this trip was very limited and so I promised myself to return as soon as possible, Our day trip to Bangkok begins with a significant stop: the Democracy Monument , an imposing structure in the heart of the city that celebrates Thailand's modernization. Here, traffic flows around this historic landmark, making it a perfect starting point for exploring the city. A few steps away, Wat Thepthidaram welcomes us with its tranquility and unique architectural details. This temple, less known by tourists, preserves a rare peace and allows us to admire ancient frescoes and refined statues. The Magic of Golden Mountain We continue towards the famous Golden Mountain (Wat Saket) , a hill topped by a golden temple that seems to touch the sky. After a climb marked by the melodic sound of bells, we reach the top. The view from here is incredible: Bangkok opens up before us, a mix of modernity and tradition. The temple, with its imposing golden bell, is a perfect place to take memorable photos and breathe the spiritual atmosphere of the city. Useful links to plan your visit: Golden Mountain (Wat Saket) The splendor of the Royal Palace On board four colorful tuk-tuks, we move towards the magnificent Royal Palace . This architectural jewel is a feast for the eyes, with glittering details, gold decorations and a regal atmosphere. Before entering, we make sure to respect the dress code: closed shoes and clothes that cover shoulders and legs. Some of us equip ourselves with sarongs and long trousers bought in the shops at the entrance. Once inside, we lose ourselves in the beauty of the complex, exploring the legendary Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) . The mystical aura of this statue, entirely carved in jade, is unique. Before leaving, we witness the changing of the guard and immortalize the moment with a group photo. Useful links to plan your visit Royal Palace and Wat Phra Kaew Lunch Break and the Reclining Buddha We stop at the nearby Chang Pier for an informal lunch. Street food, fresh fruit and smoothies satisfy every palate, offering a taste of the local cuisine. We set off on foot towards Wat Pho , famous for its Reclining Buddha : a majestic 46-meter-long golden statue. It is impossible not to be enchanted by the decorative details and the spiritual atmosphere of this temple. Sunset at Wat Arun From the nearby Tha Thien Pier , we board a boat that, for a few baht, takes us to the other side of the river. Here the magnificent Wat Arun , the Temple of Dawn, awaits us, which at sunset lights up with a warm and magical light. We stroll among its stupas covered with colored porcelain, enjoying an hour of tranquility before returning. Evening of food and lights After a short break at the hotel, we find ourselves ready for the evening, which is also New Year's Eve. Here, New Year's Eve is very much felt. People flock to the port and there were thousands of us from all over the world. We reach Saphan Taksin station and take the free ferry to Asiatique The Riverfront . This open-air shopping center, located in the old docks of Bangkok, is a charming place where shops, bars and restaurants overlook the river. Here we dine in a seafood restaurant and toast to the new year. New Year's Eve ends with a spectacular countdown and fireworks that light up the sky above the Chao Phraya River. We dance until the early hours, immersed in the contagious energy of Bangkok. Useful links to plan your visit Asiatique The Riverfront The attractions and monuments you have discovered in this blog are only a small part of what Thailand has to offer. • Thailand: Discovering the Islands of the Andaman Sea

The Andaman Islands, part of India and immersed in the Indian Ocean , offer a paradise of pristine beaches, crystal clear waters and wild nature, perfect for those seeking relaxation and beauty away from the frenzy. (Photo taken in Kuraburi) The Andamans , still wild and recently opened to international and mass tourism, are one of the last uncontaminated paradises left in the world. When you touch land in these parts you can claim to have arrived in a corner of paradise with pristine beaches, rugged coastlines and lush palm groves that plunge into the Indian Ocean. Located south of the Bay of Bengal, the Andamans are a group of about 204 islands known to Europeans since the 7th century AD and the time of Marco Polo. After breathing in the scents and colours of Bangkok and its ancient capital Ayutthaya , one of the largest cities in Thailand, I set sail for the islands. Bangkok Special, discovering the capital of Thailand (Photo taken at Bamboo Beach) Postcard beaches, crystal clear sea, just like in the photos I had looked at with dreamy eyes on the internet. This is why this destination is so loved, especially by us Italians. The climate? Perfect. Sunny days, low humidity and rare rains. During the winter, the coast overlooking the Andaman Sea is a dream: here are some of the most beautiful islands, such as the Similan, Khao Lak, Phi Phi Island, Krabi, Pucket and the Surin nature reserve . An unmissable destination that believe me at first I was skeptical about whether to include it in my itinerary or not but then it won me over. Take a look at my itinerary that will take you to experience unexplored and lesser-known landscapes, enchanting beaches and timeless traditions. I discovered Thailand almost by chance and was immediately fascinated by it. ITINERARY After spending two days in Bangkok We took a trip into the past to Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of the kingdom . From Bangkok we took a transfer to Ayutthaya (which the Maxtiger guide reserved for us) in an hour and a half we were in history . Here we took a bike tour among the ruins of the temples, savoring the majesty of a time now gone by. Direction "Ko" Surin Islands from Bangkok to Kuraburi - Khao Lak (Photo taken in Surin) After an overnight bus ride (VIP service) from Bangkok, with reclining seats that made the 6-hour journey more comfortable, we arrived at dawn in Kuraburi, a quiet coastal town that serves as a gateway to the "Ko" Surin Islands, part of a protected nature reserve. An archipelago of 5 islands, two of which are normally visited, 70 km from the Thai mainland and 150 km north of Phuket . From there, by boat, the journey continued for about two hours . I had never thought that a place could give me so much beauty and simplicity together , but the "Ko" Surin Islands managed to do it. Ideal for those who love the sea and "Snorkeling". On the island of Ko Surin Tai there is a small Moken village, inhabited by an Austronesian ethnic group known as " sea gypsies" for their traditionally nomadic lifestyle. They live in harmony with the ocean, maintaining unique and fascinating traditions. (Photo taken in Surin) I decided to spend the night on Surin Nuea Island in a campsite, right next to the beautiful Mai Ngam Bay. There were only 70 sites and it was my first time in a tent, but the comfort of the facilities offered by the Park Authority amazed me: mattresses, sleeping bags and pillows were available at more than reasonable prices (less than 500 baht for everything). Otherwise, I could also bring a tent and pay only for the occupation of the land. There was even a restaurant, where you can enjoy simple dishes (fried chicken and boiled rice for three days) but delicious with a view of the sea. For those who want to spend the night, Surin Nuea Island also offers simple bungalows for 2-5 people. The nights were magical : it felt like being on a desert island, with the sky full of stars and the sound of the waves in the background. In the morning, waking up to the sound of the sea was an experience that made me fall in love with this place even more. At 7 pm the sea retreats, leaving over 200 meters of seabed exposed. It is a common natural phenomenon in these areas, the shallows also affect navigation, but for those who observe it for the first time it may seem disturbing The National Park is only open seven months a year, so don't miss the opportunity to experience it to the fullest. I already know I'll be back! If you want to get away from it all and immerse yourself in authentic nature, I recommend booking now: here, every moment is worth it. Every morning we took the boat to explore some of the most beautiful beaches in the area, including Ao Mai Ngam, wild and romantic at the same time. How to get there: Buses covering the Bangkok – Phuket or Chumphon-Phuket routes also stop in Khura Buri , and minivan transfers can also be organised from Krabi , Phuket or Khao La. All the details here - Park Authority Similan Exploration "day trip" with stay in Khao Lak On the third day of our stay in Surin, in the late afternoon we take the boat and return to Kuraburi. Here we find some mini-vans that leave us in Kao Lak , a good hour's drive away. We spend "a dream night" and rest before setting sail the next day for Similian. We stay in a luxury resort, the Eden Beach with one of the most beautiful private beaches I have ever seen. White sand and crystal clear sea. Intercontinental breakfast that put us back in the world after eating chicken and rice for three days. Immediately after we set sail for a "Day Trip" in the protected national park of the Similan Islands recognized as such in 1982. Unfortunately this wonderful island is stormed by mass tourism and I strongly advise against going there during the high season. From June 2018 it is no longer possible to stay overnight and a tax of 500 baht for adults and 300 baht for children is also mandatory to visit it. “Similan” means nine and refers to the nine islands that are aligned from north to south about 60 km from the mainland. The ideal is to rent a boat and go to explore the most beautiful beaches by circumnavigating the islands : like Koh Pa Yu, it is famous for its wonderful coral gardens and the diving point “West of Eden” as well as Koh Meang, is home to the park ranger station and hosts two splendid beaches: Honeymoon Beach and Princess Beach. The largest of the islands, famous for the panoramic point “Sail Rock”, (to do on foot uphill and with flip-flops it is very tough) from which you can admire a spectacular view of Donald Duck Bay. Impressive and famous for the granite rocks that make it special given the size, shapes and colors. However, it is a very crowded beach throughout the day. From Similan to Phuket, between comfort, nightlife and dream sea We arrive in Phuket with a mini van in a couple of hours from Karaburi - Khao Lak . We stay at Bandalo Boutique Hotel very nice structure, welcoming but above all facing the sea on the beautiful Patong Beach on the west coast of the island and with a plentiful and varied breakfast. Here in Phuket one evening it is a must to immerse yourself in the crazy and transgressive nightlife of the nearby (but not too much) Bangla Road popular for its lively nightlife and its ladyboys. Our hotel had a perfect location. Close to everything without suffocating in chaos. We spend two nights here and three intense days at sea. With a long tail boat in this area we explore many beaches. Kata Beach is very suggestive and especially during the sunset hours, it offers a beautiful show. Read Organized Trips to Thailand. Where to Go to Discover the Land of Smiles Kata Beach Kata won me over with its simplicity and the color of the water. The beach is divided into two parts: Kata Noi , smaller and quieter, and Kata Yai, with its larger area, hotels and shops. Both offer extraordinary views of the picturesque island of Koh Pu , not to be missed especially at sunset. A real show for everyone! Karon Beach Nestled between Patong (north) and Kata (south), it is the third longest beach on the island and one of the most popular. The sand is white and the turquoise sea is ideal for swimming and staying soaked throughout your holiday. Quieter than other nearby beaches (ideal for me), it also offers activities such as paragliding and jet skiing if you are still looking for a bit of action. Railay Beach The Railay peninsula can only be reached by sea. And it is one of the most beautiful destinations in the Krabi province . The sand is white but what is striking are the imposing limestone cliffs that are one of its distinctive features, ideal for being photographed. Accessible only by boat, from Ao Nang or other beaches in Phuket, From Phuket to Phi Phi Island, the earthly paradise The Phi Phi Islands archipelago is located in the province of Krabi, here I discovered paradise on earth, Phi Phi Island does not have its own airport; the archipelago can only be reached by sea from Phuket, Krabi, Koh Lanta and Koh Lipe. Or you can reach Phi Phi Island from Bangkok and book a flight to Phuket or Krabi . I spent two nights on the island and three full days exploring. If I were to return to Thailand, I would definitely give this island more time, it deserves to be experienced thoroughly. I highly recommend staying here, avoiding the crowds of day trips, to truly discover its charm. We stayed at Cabana Hotel sea view less than 1 km from the center, direct access to the beach but above all a bar open also in the evening but never until late. With a Long Tail Boat we visited countless beaches, we stopped when we liked the view of one of the coves and beaches. And I assure you the beaches here are fantastic Maya Beach, the Island Famous for DiCaprio's "The Beach" Arrive early in the morning this island because it is stormed and entry is limited. It is characterized by the presence of lush vegetation and sheer cliffs. The sea is crystal clear, almost postcard-like and impossible to forget for any tourist, even those less accustomed to staying in seaside resorts. The island is part of the Ko Phi Phi Marine National Park. Walking along the perimeter of this splendid beach you can admire not only its very fine sand, but also many other interesting things, starting with the Viking Cave caves. The Thai government has banned the possibility of staying on this island Tonsai Bay (Loh Tonsai) Tonsai Bay is the tourist center and the main pier of the Phi Phi Islands archipelago (Tonsai Pier). All the boats arrive and depart from here. sea connections to/from Phi Phi Island . From Phi Phi Island you can reach Krabi in about 2 hours of navigation. The centre is located on an isthmus characterised by two opposing bays: Tonsai Bay (Loh Ton Sai) to the south and Dalum Bay (Loh Dalum) to the north, separated from each other by a strip of land approximately 150 metres wide. (Photo La Thailandia.com ) Dalum Bay (Loh Dalum) Dalum Bay – Loh Dalum in Thai, we went here after dinner. It is a beautiful, stunning and very large bay located north of Tonsai Bay, separated from the latter by a strip of land. It is full of beach bars and restaurants, ideal for tasting some typical dishes and sipping a cocktail a few meters from the sea. After sunset, this area represents the center of Phi Phi Island's nightlife and is full of people of all ages. From Phi Phi we flew back to Phuket and then from there we took a domestic flight to Bangkok where we spent our last night. Recommended choice due to unpredictable weather and sea conditions that can make you miss your flight. The attractions and monuments you have discovered in this blog are only a small part of what Thailand has to offer.

  • OUT DOOR TOURS AND ACTIVITIES IF YOU ARE IN BADEN WURTTEMBERG in GERMANY

In my column at "Portata di Manu" you will find Germany, France and Switzerland top activities to do to have fun with the family or by yourself The Black Forest's being so close to Germany, France, and Switzerland is what makes Baden Wurttemberg so unique and fascinating to travelers. We stayed in Villingen, a delightful town in the heart of Baden-Württemberg, and from there we explored the entire region. Discovering the cultural diversity of these three nations in one trip is an extraordinary experience. Each country has its own distinct language, traditions, cuisine and cultural heritage, and being in such a unique meeting point allows you to immerse yourself in a true tour of European cultures. In France, you can get lost in romantic villages, and discover the finesse of French cuisine while exploring explore famous historical and cultural sites. In Switzerland, you can admire the majestic Alps, savor Swiss chocolate, and experience the efficiency and cleanliness of this nation. Without a doubt, this itinerary will enrich your knowledge and understanding of different European cultures, and leave you with precious memories. Remember to also take the time to appreciate the natural and historical beauty of each country, savor the typical dishes , and interact with the locals to get an authentic and meaningful experience The Rhine Falls, Rheinfall, in Schaffausen, Switzerland. You'll be amazed by them and love them. The Cascate del Reno   Rheinfall are a sight not to be missed, created 15,000 years ago. They are in Switzerland, in the City of Schaffhausen, that has a lively medieval center. This Swiss town is an appropriate starting point for visiting the Rhine Falls, the largest in Europe.   Watch the video of Rhine Falls  Experience the great emotion Powerful jets of water make a  23-meter drop from a 150-meter-wide basin . A majestic rock rises in the center of the falls, which can be reached by a boat ride or, as we did, from a path traced in the rock at the foot of which gives you have the sensation that the water is about to come over you. Clicca qui per vedere il video della cascata VIDEO RHEINFALL   You can reach the falls by car  from Basel  by taking the A3 highway, exit Laufenburg, and from Zurich  by taking the A4 towards Schaffhausen, exit Schaffhausen-Süd.  Or by direct train  departing from Schaffhausen and arriving at Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall Connections depart every 30 min, and operate daily. which takes 7 min and costs €9 - €17 -  Swiss Railway   The cheapest way to get from Schaffhausen to Rhine Falls is to  634 bus  which costs €2 - €4 and takes 15 min departing from Schaffhausen, Bahnhof and arriving at Neuhausen, Zentrum.  The connections depart every 10 min, and operate daily The quickest way to get from Schaffhausen to Rhine Falls  is to get a cab which costs €28 - €35 and takes 5 min. And that is not all: also within a short distance is Adventure Park am Rheinfall , one of the most spectacular adventure parks in Europe. (I have not been there yet but plan to go) Visit to the Danube source in Donaueschingen On the eastern slope of the Black Forest, the Course of the Danube begins , the source of which is officially indicated to be in the town of Donaueschingen.   The Danube's course through Baden-Württemberg is rather short but characterized by a lovely landscape. The source is located in the garden of the  Palace of Princes von Fürstenberg. 'Donaueschingen is a picturesque town located between the Black Forest and the Swabian Jura, right near the source of the Danube. The River Brigach  flows through Donaueschingen and to the east of the town joins with the Breg to form the Donau, the great European river. European Parliament and Strasbourg visit You can experience Europe in Strasbourg!  In order to better understand how the EU  works, I took the opportunity of my tour of Strasbourg to visit the European Parliament.    Strasbourg is one of the rare cities in the world  (with New-York and Geneva) to house the headquarters of an international institution  without being a state capital. The only transnational parliament in the world that is directly elected democratically. he European Parliament visit was a unique opportunity to see the hemicycle (the hall) where members of parliament from the 27 member countries of the European Union are seated each month.  The European Parliament in Strasbourg is open to visitors six days a week all year round. Visits are free. The tour will take you on a discovery of the hemicycle of the European Parliament, the Simone Veil Parlamentarium , and several exhibitions. All information on the website of the PARLAMENTO EUROPEO   Raclette and Cheese Fondue Eating in Strasbourg Winters in France or Switzerland  are the ideal time to enjoy cheese melts , warming the bellies and souls of foodies. France  offers an amazing varieties of cheeses by the way,  which are a greatest source of pride in French cuisine  between soft cheeses,  such as Camembert, Brie, Coulommiers, Munster, blue cheeses , such as Roquefort and Bleu d'Auvergne,  and hard cheeses , such as Comté most likely, the most well-known and beloved  French AOP cheese . A few words: fondue (fondue) and Raclette cheese . Are two reasons to love the cold season so immensely. I would recommend two must-go eating places for two unforgettable cheese dinners. La Cloche a Formage    An historic cheese factory  in Strasbourg. Perhaps the best in Strasbourg.  Very beautiful venue in true  French style . Cozy. Fine restaurant has a wide selection of cheeses.  Offers an original all you can eat formula of fondue and raclette . It brings bread and fondue to your table at all times until you are full. For the raclette same formula, you are left with a half-moon of cheese at your table  with a dedicated tool to melt it at the moment. Good wines and nice atmosphere. Only  drawback  is an intense smell of cheese at the entrance of the restaurant. It is very difficult to get a table for dinner;  there is a 6-week waiting list. Do not take the appetizers even though they are very good. We were 4 people. We got 1 raclette and1 fondue and 1 hors d'oeuvre, Always order for 1 person even if you eat with 4. Lepicerie   Very characteristic bistro. Romantic and with an exquisite wine list to exalt and inebriate every taste. Outstanding. Take the Fondue directly with extra bread accompanied with some salad flavor ideal to match the cheese Turning into children by going to Europa Park (near Freiburg) So if you have children or grandchildren,  this is a great place for the family where the adults have the most fun.  I have promised my grandchildren I will bring them here next spring. Europa Park is located in Rust, in southwest Germany,  between Freiburg and Strasbourg, near France. At the center of this vibrant city is St. Gallen Abbey, a UNESCO treasure since 1983, which houses the majestic Baroque cathedral and the famous collegiate library, treasure troves of knowledge and history. St. Gallen is also a beacon of culture, with a vibrant scene that satisfies the desires of fans: from museums that tell the story of tradition and art, to theater of the highest caliber, not to mention the cabarets and festivals that enliven the city. At every turn, this metropolis confirms itself as a cultural hub of Eastern Switzerland, where creativity and history meet in a perfect embrace.

  • Unexpected Germany: travelling through Baden Wurttemberg and the Black Forest of the Brothers Grimm

This is one of the travel to put on the to-do list. This area of s outhwestern Germany's Baden Wurttemberg hides nature-wonderful places wrapped in an ancient mystery When I think of Baden-Württemberg, I immediately want to go back. It is one of those undiscovered regions of Germany that stays in your heart , perfect in every season, but for me there are two ideal times to experience it at its best: winter and summer. In December and January, i deal if you are a dreamer looking for an enchanted world thanks to the Christmas Markets.. xmas market Ravennaschlucht - Look ad this video These are not just markets, but real experiences. Among the most beautiful and organized in the world. It is pleasant to walk among illuminated stands (despite the low temperatures) with the fragrance of spices in the air, a glass of brulè wine in your hands (a panacea for a chill of warmth) and maybe a softly falling snowflake. It is all so magical! If you are a thermal spa or snow lover, the scenery is even more magical especially in winter. Baden Baden (meaning Baths) is called the grande dame of German spas (accessible to all). Its warm waters have made it famous throughout Europe. Snow and spas often go hand in hand. Even in the days of Queen Victoria it was frequented by the wealthy nobility of the time who came here to relax. I have spent hours relaxing in the saunas, and I assure you that after a cold day it is the height of happiness to take a spa course in little houses heated up to 100 degrees. Some I have been to Badeparadies Schwarzwald   and Solemar   and Der Öschberghof (qui trovate anche hotel)   and Terme di Caracalla But beware. In Germany you can enter completely naked in the spa areas (steam bath or sauna) Read BEST CHRISTMAS MARKET IN GERMANY And then there is the summer. From May to August, Baden-Württemberg changes completely. N ature explodes in a thousand colors , the meadows are green and flowers everywhere. For those who love walking and cycling, it is really very beautiful. There are never-ending bike paths and trails here, t here is something for all levels, and every corner gives you a different view, and you can even get around the everyday by bike. It is beautiful to get lost among forests, vineyards and small villages that look like something out of a postcard. If you love nature and the outdoors, this is the season for you. No matter what kind of trip you are looking for, whether it is relaxation or adventure, Baden-Württemberg always has something special to offer. I can't wait to go back, and I really hope you can experience it too! In my column "A portata di Manu"  I offer you ideas, experiences and itineraries, but also things to do if you come to these parts In the article (next to each individual experience) are all the references for booking tickets or excursions or guided tours in the area Where is Baden-Wurttemberg Germany is divided into 16 federal states , also known as " Lander " in Dutch. These states are: Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Hessen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein, and Thuringia. Each state has its own government and parliament, and they have some self-government in areas such as education, culture and police. Baden Wurttemberg is one of the largest states in Germany, includes forest-covered mountains, large lakes, and romantic cities, set in a diverse landscape bordering Switzerland and France that make it truly special and international. From thermal spas (popular almost year-round due to cold temperatures) to natural areas to historic cities and towns, a trip to Baden-Wuerttemberg offers attractions for everyone and the whole family. The region also includes one of Germany's oldest universities located in Freiburg then there are also cities such as Tübingen Constance, Karlsruhe and Stuttgart and beautiful forests and bicycle paths that run through the green and connect all of Germany's cities, making life green, being able to engage in outdoor sports and change lifestyle The Black Forest is one of the most famous destinations in Baden-Wuerttemberg. This area of mountains, forests and waterfalls host small spa towns and excellent ski resorts within a magnificent scenic setting. I've made several stops in the Parco naturale della Foresta Nera meridionale both cycling and walking. The Black Forest also includes numerous lakes that can be visited by boat, such as that of Costanza or Bodensee , and Schluchsee and the Titisee you absolutely must see. There are many equipped barbecue areas in the Black Forest. Here, the State provides public and communal areas, picnic and barbecue areas where you can bring food and relax. There are also open-air gyms i n almost every town in Germany. Among the most famous cities is Stoccarda , a real beauty full of historic buildings. Being the capital and largest city of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Stuttgart hosts impressive castles, beautiful gardens, various museums and art galleries. Check out the imposing Castle of Solitude, an 18th-century Rococo Palace located in the Stuttgart-West district, and the lush botanical-zoological garden, called Wilhelma. How to reach Baden Wurttemberg. Connections to Baden Baden, Stuttgart, Zurich and Basel The first time I flow from Bari to Baden Baden with a Ryanair flight. However, this area is also well served by other airports such as Stuttgart, Zurich and Basel. The picture is about Basel Airport famous for the double international exit that allow people to go out on the France side or the Switzerland part. By plane:  There are some airlines that operate flights from Bari or Brindisi to and from the airports of Stoccarda or Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden , Basel Mulhouse Friburgo and Zurigo 1) Eurowings (from Bari e Brindisi to Stoccarda) 2) Ryanair (only from Bari to Baden Baden) 3) Easy Jet both Brindisi and Bari for Aeroporto di Basilea Mulhouse Friburgo. 4) ITA with a stop-over in Rome from Zurich and then a direct flight from Rome to Bari or Brindisi 5) Swiss air From Zurich with a direct flight to Bari If you fly into Stuttgart you can take a train to Baden Baden which in 1h 30 minutes (cost about 30 euros) takes you to the spa town. If you fly into Baden Baden from the airport there are buses leaving every hour toward Baden Baden central station. Train schedules to or from Baden Baden station you can look up on the official Deutsche Bahn   website however from the station you can also take another bus to the center or other direct buses to some cities in Baden-Wuerttemberg . The Baden Baden station is located along the Mannheim-Karlsruhe-Basel railway. To get from Karlsruhe Airport/Baden Baden (FKB) to Baden-Baden, you can also go by cab, it costs €75 - €95 and takes 22 min If you fly into Basel you have some options A Flixbus bus on French side exit to Reach Villingen (in Germany) The fastest train ride from Villingen-Schwenningen to Basel and vice versa takes 2 hours 35 minutes . During the week, there are about 43 trains per day. Travel times may change on weekends and holidays. Unfortunately, there is no direct connection from Villingen-Schwenningen to Basel. You have to change trains at least once on this route. The first train from Villingen-Schwenningen to Basel is at 05:49. The last train from Villingen-Schwenningen to Basel is at 23:08. Or you can rent a ca r Must do things in Baden Wurttemberg Moving by car allowed me to create a tailor-made vacation by choosing from all the wonderful opportunities this part of the territory offers: Hiking in the Black Forest , visiting the lake and the city of Constance, tasting with typical German dishes, visiting the European Parliament, (Strasburgo, Francia)   to have dinner in the Stuttgart Cheese Factory, , (Alsazia, Francia)   visiting the waterfalls (Svizzera) . I also treated myself to lots of relaxation at the spa as well as more than one visit to the sparkling university city of Freiburg im Breisgau whose historic center is a little medieval gem. Villingen-Schwenningen, a step away from the black forest As I planned the trip, I became curious about the story of Villingen-Schwenningen  and I have been thinking of staying right here and I have been coming to this town more and more often now.  It is 1.30 hours away from Baden Baden  in the German state of Baden-Württemberg,  in the Schwarzwald region, in the Freiburg administrative district. Two townships Villingen and Schwenningen  converging into a modern town in the Black Forest. Villingen used to be part of the Grand Duchy of Baden  while Schwenningen used to be part of the Duchy of Württemberg. Villingen is the more attractive of the two because  it is sorrounded by high walls within which, the town reminds one of a medieval mountain village with its colorful buildings and peaked roofs. The Saturday morning  the must do is the market in the small town square , where people love to go shopping and buying lots of quality and fresh food for the whole week. I highlight the cheese stand  and recommend you try the very good French cheese EPOISSES spreadable cheese (it is quite addictive because of how good it is even though it leaves an incredible stink on your hands). Also great is the Cheesecake stand (classic or berry) that you can find at Stefans  . The fruit and vegetable stalls are interesting, but so is the bread stand to mark the great connection with Puglia Read More.... where to dine in Villlingen - Schwenningen Experience the Holy Mary of Lourdes in the Black Forest From Villingen, I visited the Lourdes-Grotte zur Elsenau   for convenience I also give you the coordinate di Google della grotta .  Among other suggestions, with a 25 km flat trek.  The Lourdes Cave at the Marian pilgrimage site "Elsenau"  is wonderfully nestled in nature on the country road between Obereschach and Kappel.  The prayer place is visited all year round with pleasure by many faithful coming from near and far. You can also reach the Lourdes Grotte by car in 20 minutes. The old town of Villingen Villingen lies on the border between the Black Forest and the Baar Plateau, and is crossed by the Brigach , one of the waterways that joins the Breg at Donaueschingen to form the Danube. The old town, surrounded by ancient medieval walls, is dotted with towers and gates that once served as entrances to the city. Prominent among them is the Romäus Tower , dedicated to the legendary Landsknecht hero of local lore . Don't miss the majestic cathedral dating from the 12th century and the fountain in the square in front of it , adorned with curious, grotesque sculptural scenes. The Villingen Cathedral Villingen Cathedral ( Münster of Our Lady ) is a cathedral in the center of the Villingen district in Villingen-Schwenningen . It is the main Catholic church in Villingen . It was originally dedicated to John the Baptist. In addition to church services, concerts are also held in Villingen Cathedral , although these are limited to sacred music Read More.... where to dine in Villlingen - Schwenningen FREIBURG in Breisgau If you are in this area you have several alternatives. You can stay in either Villingen (medieval city par excellence) or Constance (magical because of the lake) or Freiburg, a sparkling and culturally vibrant city. The atmosphere in Freiburg is typical of Mediterranean countries (far from German stereotypes). People here have a relaxed lifestyle characteristic of Baden - west of Freiburg. I felt right away the easy going attitude of the people I met on the street who were sitting intent on sipping a coffee or a good wine in the old town, full of cafes and small restaurants. I was impressed by its atmosphere and the details that make it special, such as the Bächle , small streams of crystal-clear water fed by the fiume Dreisam river that flow along the streets of the old town where “people” have a habit of chilling bottles of wine for dinner. Read more about what to do in FREIBURG IM BR EISGAU Thermal Spa Baden Baden what a passion The best way to understand German culture is by going to spas or saunas and spending as much time as possible. The s aunas here are for naked people . Aside from the initial discomfort no one pays any attention to the others, getting undressed and re-connecting with the water and vapors is part of the culture of this people. I have been to spas on more than one occasion by taking a spa trip to " Terme Solemar " in Bad Dürrheim with 13 indoor and outdoor pools . The beauty of these places is that the water here is always warm. Pleasant the steambath, but I mostly spent my time by the Jacuzzi jets in the outdoor pool. This is a European spa that uses salt water, and there are six themed saunas (with a separate entrance) whose heat reaches up to 80 degrees. To get into each of the six, the walking path is in the trees, connected by stone stairs, that you have to walk down in a towel, completely wet at an outside temperature that is I would say freezing but pleasant due to the very high body temperature reached in the sauna. I went back to the spa several times in the winter months and enjoyed in December the 5o degrees of water and the -10 degrees of outdoor temperature. However I also visited the Terme di Caracalla a beautiful complex with a huge central pool and spacious relaxation area Some I have been to   Badeparadies Schwarzwald   and Solemar   and Der Öschberghof (qui trovate anche hotel)   and Terme di Caracalla   Black Forest , magical in winter romantic in spring This wonderful forest of more than 150 km was the setting for some of the most beautiful and famous fairy tales written by the Brothers Grimm. Sadly, the Baden Wurttemberg area was not among those of most inspiration for the brothers Grimm. Nevertheless, foresta nera in his imagery made me become a child again. Being guided by the sound of nature and the twitter of little birds, I have imagined running into the little marzipan house discovered by the little brothers Hansel and Gretel (set in Christenberg) or watching Little Red Riding Hood popping up running away from the wolf (set in the forest near Schwalmstadt) or suddenly reaching the foot of Hofgeismar Castle where the story of The Sleeping Beauty took place. I only guessed because the same are sighted in the northern part of Germany. In Any case, trekking in the Black Forest, whether on foot or by bike, is an essential stop all the times you pass through these parts. Since I frequent this part of Germany, I have been milling kilometers on foot and by bike, immersed in the thickest vegetation and towering old trees that barely filter the sun's rays. It lies in southwest Germany, as we mentioned, in the Baden-Württemberg region. It were the Romans who gave it this name (Latin Silva Nigra ), for its vegetation made of dark green trees and so dense that the sun's rays do not shine through. The Black Forest has many activities for both adults and children. Among these is the lake Titise e le cascate Triberg , Triberg waterfalls, the highest within the Black Forest. They are reached by walking along a path through the woods. Here the Gutach waters form a beautiful waterfall with 7 leaps on the granite rocks Trekking, walking and biking, with departure from Villingen in the Black Forest No matter if you are a fan of scenic views, long-distance cyclists or short-distance runner, or walkers. The Black Forest can be explored with a lot of pleasure by bicycle and on foot. The bicycle trail network in the Black Forest tourism region is very extensive . From this link Percorsi TREKKING e BICI Foresta Nera or by downloading the app you can easily have a guide at hand and following in addition to road signs indicated by road, very easy, accurate, with an explanation of the kilometers to be covered to get to your destination, find your way with the paths traced in the phone. Lake and City of Constance For Germans, the Lake of Constance  is a real sea, to the point that they call it "Schwäbisches Meer"  We have been there several times reaching this location either by car or by bike (there is a whole bike path) but then returning by train in the evening. Lago di Costanza, well known as Bodensee .  is the third largest freshwater lake we have in Europe. If you are around here, the daylight stays until 10 p.m.  allowing you lots of time to visit the medieval city of Constance , Germany's most southern city. • Lake and City of Constance tour in Germany in Baden Wurttemberg

With its Mediterranean climate, colorful flowers and a dreamy lakefront, Constance is the ideal place for a weekend getaway in Baden Wurttemberg Konstanz is the “capital” of the Bodensee, which in Italian takes its name, Lake Constance. It is one of the lucky few German cities to have survived the bombings of World War II. With a history as old as its name, dedicated to Emperor Constantius Chlorus, made up of bewitching architecture and water attractions, there is a Mediterranean air about Constance that will not make you regret visiting the city on Europe's third largest lake. WHERE IS IT? Lake Constance is located in southwest Germany and is a very nice place to take a vacation. It has a pleasant climate and there are snow-covered mountains around it. The lake is located where three countries meet: Germany, Austria and Switzerland . I n German it is called Bodensee and is divided into two parts: the upper lake (Obersee) and the lower lake (Untersee). The Rhine River is very important to this lake because it carries water and connects the two parts of the lake. Germany has the northern part of the lake, and this is divided between two regions, Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. To the south, there are three cantons in Switzerland: St. Gallen, Thurgau, and Schaffhausen . Finally, the small east coast is in Austria, near the city of Bregenz. For Germans, Lake Constance is a real sea, so much so that they call it “Schwäbisches Meer” . We have been there several times reaching this location either by car or by bike (there is a whole bike path) but then returning by train in the evening. Scenic and very popular with locals who flock this way at the first ray of sunshine to kayak, or a ride in a pedal boat or Sup or just to relax and get a ta n. If you are in these parts, the sunlight stays until 10 p.m. offering you plenty of time to visit the medieval town of Constance. It is the southernmost city in Germany. HOW TO REACH CONSTANCE Constance is the city that gives Lake Constance its name, so it is the perfect place to start your visit. It is a city with a population of almost 90,000 and is located in the Baden-Württemberg region of Germany. Constance is also a famous University city . It is known for being the site of an important Church meeting, called the “Conclave,” which took place here a long time ago, in 1414.. Read Top attractions in Baden Wurttemberg The city is special because it lies between two lakes: the Obersee and Untersee lakes , which are connected by the Rhine River . The oldest part of the city lies to the south and overlooks Obersee Lake . One attraction you can't miss is the 9-meter-high Statue of Imperia , pictured in my profile photo, which stands at the entrance to the harbor . This statue commemorates the Council of Constance that took place right here . From Villingen by Deutche Bahn train Constance is as easy to reach as any town on the German side of Lake Constance. A trip to Lake Constance, more commonly known to everyone as the Bodensee. the third largest freshwater lake we have in Europe, is worth a full day especially if time permits. IMPERIA STATUE SYMBOL OF CONSTANCE Symbol of Constance is the statue of “Imperia.” I found out that she was a curvy harlot and that in this statue dedicated to her, she holds in her fist, or rather in the palm of both hands, her father Martin V and King Sigismund, two of the most powerful men of the Middle Ages enslaved to the weaknesses of the flesh. The statue of “Imperia” has the peculiarity of rotating 360 degrees so that it never shows only the “B side” to those arriving from the lake or those strolling along the harbor. Also interesting to see in Constance is the museum of Jan Hus, an important Czech theologian who was condemned by the Church. Also, don't forget to see the Constance Cathedral, called Minster. This church is very old, but its appearance that we see today is the result of renovations done in the 1800s. HISTORICAL CENTER OF CONSTANCE The old town is one of the main attractions of the city and is worth walking around appreciating its winding streets. WHAT TO DO ON LAKE CONSTANCE If you come during the winter season with the frozen lake i n the bay next to the island, you can s kate, play field hockey, and buy mulled wine and currywurst at the ice stalls. Or if you can, it would be wonderful to visit a xmas market during Advent. Lake Constance co mbines the Christmas traditions of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein . During Christmas, festively decorated towns are reflected in the lake, with markets located on the shores, islands, snow-capped mountains, and baroque castles. The atmosphere is made even more magical by the scents of sweets and cinnamon, and the Advent ships that connect the various markets . In addition, hotels and restaurants in the area offer special packages to make the winter vacations even better. Links to the xmas market on the Costance Lake If you come during the summer, i t's all a party. It is wonderful to sail along the lake (by kayak or canoe) or even by pedal boat. You can bring your own or rent one at one of the centers you find just around the German side of the lake. And while you are sailing the lake be sure to cross at least one frontier. Interesting and very sporty as an activity to ride your bike on the lakefront and walk the whole thing, even on foot if you want. You can relax on the lawn and lie in the sun, giving yourself a well-deserved rest. If you l ove wine, you are in the right place. T he most beautiful places above Lake Constance traditionally belong to the grape. From the Rhine Valley to the Rhine Falls, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir enjoy the sunshine and the view of the lake. All the details and experiences Best wine experiences on Costance Lake Durante l'estate quasi tutti i fine settimana è possibile mangiare cibo locale in uno degli stand gastronomici allestiti intorno al lago. Dove mangiare a Costanza A Costanza ho mangiato un ottimo burger di pollo e panino multicereale  in un posto molto bello, tipo jungle bar che vi consiglio Hans im Glueck

  • Where to dine in southern Germany in Baden Wurttemberg in Villingen Schwenningen

We are in Baden Wurttemberg known for its white sausages famous for the DOP The wurst in Germany is an undisputed symbol of culinary tradition , an essential protagonist of street festivals and village events. Among the most iconic is Weißwurst , the famous white sausage typical of Bavaria. Made from beef and pork belly, it is flavored with parsley, lemon and spices, expressing the authenticity of a DOP rooted in the land. Traditionally served with sweet mustard and accompanied by a soft Brezel, Weißwurst is best enjoyed in the morning hours, perhaps with a cool wheat beer. But German cuisine certainly doesn't stop there . Each region offers a variety of flavors to enjoy: from rich Eintopf (hot stews) to iconic Spätzle, to juicy roast pork served with sauerkraut and Knödel (dumplings). For those with a taste for sweets, a slice of Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (Black Forest cake) or Apfelstrudel is the perfect closure to a rich and satisfying meal. Indeed, sausage is just the beginning of a gastronomic journey that tells the story and traditions of a country through authentic and convivial flavors. In my column “ A Porata di Manu ,” I offer you ideas and itineraries or suggestions of things to do if you come to these parts. In the kitchen, only local ingredients are used, freshly bought at the regional market. The menu is seasonally varying and offers a variety of dining experiences that involve all the senses. At   Gasthaut Ott     is a trendy iconic pub popular with both young people and people of my age. The Beverage selection is interesting and so is the food. I dined outside the evening permitted and it was lovely to be outside. Unfortunately, the images are stock, I had a discharged cell phone and could not take pictures of the tasty dishes with which the pub owner delighted me. At Shiva's garden   It is one of my very favorite restaurants in this city. The staff is friendly and the the food very tasty and delicious. The ambience is total Indian very fancy. I ordered tandoori chicken, that is chicken and curry sauce, and must-have biriani rice which remains my favorite. My partner palak paneer, a vegan dish with cheese and spinach. The cheese bread (like piadina I don't remember the name) was interesting. Excellent Italian Chianti. At the end a mango floral Spirit. It was too strong for me, but I really enjoyed the owner's gift. Review to Google Maps At Don Antonio   We dined twice here, once with a couple of Mexican friends. Service, hospitality and professionalism really excellent. The quality of the food was very good, and the ingredients very good, although it was not purist Spanish cuisine. Appetizer excellent. Paella was rich in seafood, very good and tasty. I doubled up on it. Wine good and atmosphere warm and pleasant. The jamon was not jamon serrano as mentioned on the menu, it was a good ham but not serrano. Recensione su Google Maps   At Saigon   Cozy place. Food delicious and varied. Very friendly and helpful owner especially offers advice on what to order. I was pleased to find Quality, Price and Goodness. I am a noodle lover, so we ordered a chicken and shrimp rice noodle salad, which was very good. The Vietnamese rolls are a must and then the fried noodles on a lay of gravy, chicken, shrimp and Vegetables. If you are left with a little space, I would recommend the fried chicken. You share everything, the portions are very plenty At Asia Food   This is the best Chinese restaurant I have dined at in Europe. I always use to go there, every time I get to Villingen. Managed by Chinese people. Great value for money. They do fresh cooking, with an open kitchen. All types of Fried Noodles are fantastic especially with vegetables or chicken but also seafood, with prawns, really good. Delicious ones with fried chicken. The rice with both vegetables and chicken are very good. I do not remember the name of the dish, but the rice is served in the shape of a dome. It also makes take-out. It is one of the very few places maybe the only one that opens in the moorning at 10 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m. everyday. You only pay in cash. Read Unexpected Germany - the best of Baden Wurttemberg At BellaVista   We discovered this Italian pizzeria-restaurant in the middle of the Black Forest outside the town, precisely in Konigsfeld, within the Golfclub Konigsfeld. t is nestled in the greenery of the beautiful Golf club. Cozy atmosphere, quality food. The Management is completely family-run, made in Sicily, and that is what makes it special. You can have antipasti, salads primi and second of meat and fish. We ordered an ortolana pizza, with bufala mozzarella. This last one was very fresh and the pizza dough very light. Being a good Apulian and living by the sea I wanted to try the fried fish. A very good mix with delicate breading. The dessert was the highlight. The owner, Adelina, had prepared tiramisu in the afternoon. I can assure you that it was a true Italian tiramisu with no German influences and no adaption of flavors. It was really delicious. Several pasta dishes in the menù with names dedicated to Italian actresses who brought cinema to the world. By the end of the evening it was pleasant to talk with Massimo, the grandfather, who is a well of knowledge while enjoying a grappa from the local private collection. The olive oil with which all the dishes are seasoned is strictly Puglia, from Andria. At   Yoake   A fabulous Japanese restaurant in the center of town.I have been there only once and it is so good. Excellent Sushi, refined dishes, served in an elegant way with a careful eye for design. Very stylish and elegant atmosphere. At Ice Café Zampolli   When you get there you can hear Italian speaking and immediately feel at home. 'Carmine opened this iceshop many years ago and has succeeded in bringing the quality of Italian ice cream to Germany, with no need to change the taste or the flavors in any way.All the flavors are there. The hazelnut and pistachio, my favorite flavors really good. I enjoyed the strictly artigian cone The speciality, Spaghetti Gelato, that Germans all over Germany love so much, consists of putting the ice cream in the potato masher and pressing. The bowls in which they serve it are very large.

  • What to see in Freiburg im Breisgau in one day

The atmosphere you experience in Freiburg is typical of Mediterranean countries (far from German stereotypes) . People here have a relaxed lifestyle characteristic of Baden - west of Freiburg. (Foto Biblioteca di Friburgo) The sparkling atmosphere of this German city featured my first stop as soon as I landed in Germany. I had read and then realized, that Freiburg is a university city with 30 percent of the population under 30, and it is also the sunniest city in Germany. We spent a full day in Freiburg im Breisgau but it is nice to return each time. I immediately felt the easy going attitude of the people I met on the street who were sitting intent on sipping a coffee or a good wine in the old town, which is full of cafes and small restaurants. I was struck by its atmosphere and the details that make it special, such as the Bächle , ( canals) small streams of crystal-clear water fed by the Dreisam , River, that flow along the streets of the old town where “people” have a habit of chilling bottles of wine for dinner. In my column “ A Porata di Manu ,” I offer you ideas and itineraries or suggestions of things to do if you come to these parts. Write to us at apugliesearoundthewolrd@gmail.com   Folk tradition: get married in Freiburg An old folk legend states that if someone accidentally falls into one of these canals, he or she is destined to “marry” a local: “Singles of the world” Freiburg could be your big chance to find your soul mate, If you then also drop the bottle cap on your head while popping a bottle of wine , marriage is imminent, by the end of the year, just as Italian tradition dictates. Münsterplatz, the Cathedral Square, i s the beating heart of the city of Freiburg and every day of the year (except Sundays) hosts the Münstermarkt, the large market dating back to the 1500s. The Freiburger Münster cathedral is also worth visiting.  Freiburg, is the sunniest city in Germany and is transversal as a city: it conquers all ages with i ts colorful and vibrant old town, perfect for exploring in a day. Moreover, its special geographical position, not far from Switzerland and France, a llows it to be influenced by the romantic landscapes, gastronomy and culture of Alsace, a disputed and fascinating borderland. Cultural and intellectual heart, (Foto Biblioteca Fonte Web) Freiburg is home to one of the oldest universities in Europ e and is also home to the futuristic University Library located on University Square . A mixture of living room atmosphere at home and vital coworking space: giving all students the idea of studying in Freiburg in style! The interior of the new U niversity Library looks like that of a design magazine. All spaces have been specially designed: in addition to 1,200 individual workstations , all with laptop locks, enough outlets and beautiful lamps, there are comfortable couches for group work and media rooms. Sustainable it is in any case because it consumes 65 percent less energy than the old university library and supplies its own electricity through a 2,000-square-meter photovoltaic system. Freiburg is not only history: it is also a Green City, an example of sustainability, where you get around by bike or electric vehicles. As if that were not enough, it is the gateway to the legendary Black Forest (see special Baden Wurttemberg ) Where to dine in Freiburg As a lover of International cuisine at the Markthalle . I took a world trip while sitting at the table. It is a market located in a building from the 1800s where you can eat German dishe s but also Italian, Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine . I was craving Asian cuisine of vegetable noodles and rice with chicken curry. Casual atmosphere and really good food. Wine and water are served separately. There is no table service.

  • Holy Land trip: 4 days between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv

Holy city of all monotheistic religions the first. Modern city full of culture, entertainment and nightlife the second. The two faces of the holy land between modernity and tradition I had purchased flights to go to Tel Aviv on New Year's Eve 2021. Unfortunately due to Covid-19 restrictions I was forced to postpone albeit reluctantly. As soon as Israel reopened its doors to vaccinated foreign tourists, I got on the first flight to discover this country. That Israel is one of the most historically controversial nations that has ever existed is known by now to everyone. It is the birthplace of the 3 great monotheistic religions, Christianity, Judaism and Islam, which have influenced world history. In my column "A portata di Manu"  I offer you ideas and itineraries or suggestions of things to do if you come to these parts. Write to us atapugliesearoundthewolrd@gmail.com   " Holy Land Trip: 4 Days between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv" offers suggestions and ideas if you’re planning to visit this area and only have a few days available. What few people know, however, is that there is a strong connection between this land and Apulia, born many years earlier, when in order to fulfill the Aliya Bet , literally " the ascent, " the journey of the Jews to the Promised Land, the first ship departed from the port of Monopoli, in the province of Bari, Apulia, on August 21, 1945. It was the Dalin led by Enrico Levi from Padova , and it housed 37 Jews on board. There were more than 21,000, over the course of three years, who made the voyage of hope in 56 boats that sailed to Europe (loaded with Jewish survivors of Nazi extermination). A detail that of the city of Monopoli, my town, the one in which I grew up, which struck me quite a bit and which I learned about during the opening of an exhibition at the Jewish Museum - Jewish Museum Lecce curated by Fiammetta Martegan i (curator of the museum Eretz Israel, Tel Aviv ) From the Mainland to the Promised Land: Aliya Bet from Italy to Israel" . If you have not been there yet, I recommend you visit the Museum. It is located inside a medieval building with a late Renaissance and Baroque appearance , on the site where the 15th-century synagogue once stood, in the center of Lecce's old Jewish quarter Connections with Tel Aviv We planned our trip at the end of May departing from Bari, finding among the Ryanair offers a flight at 89 euros roundtrip to Tel Aviv (Tuesday, May 24, 2022 3:15 p.m. - Saturday May 28, 1835 ). In aereo: Ryanair is the only low-cost airline that operates flights to and from Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport twice a week . Flights are currently scheduled only from Bari departing on Tuesdays at 15:35 and Saturdays at 13:45. The flight takes 3h providing for 1h time difference. Tel Aviv District is 1h ahead of Italy. Useful Information. The official currency in Jerusalem is the Israeli Shekel . Euros are accepted everywhere, you can also pay conveniently by credit card. The only places where you have to pay in local currency are museums or archaeological sites, but even there in many you can pay with a credit card. Tel Aviv is one of the most expensive cities in the world. First stop Jerusalem As soon as we landed in Tel Aviv we rented a car to get to Jerusalem , which is 40 minutes from the airport. Those who come to the Terra Promessa come to see the Holy Sepulchre, the Stations of the Cross, the neighborhoods of Jerusalem, Galilee, the Dead Sea, the desert , Tel Aviv, in short, dream like me, to know this land by f ollowing the traces left by Jesus, retracing the places of his Passion, death and Resurrection. Immediately afterwards people discover the gastronomic offerings is a good reason to appreciate the Holy Land even more. Here the word kosher is definitely at home. (It means " suitable "). My first contact with the city of Jerusalem was precisely with Kosher cuisine , having just landed just before dinnertime. We asked for a table at the restaurant and were asked whether we were observant or not (Kosher?). In the restaurants there are areas dedicated to kosher and those dedicated to non-observant. Falafel, hummus, ptitim (Israeli couscous), pita, tahina, sabish, shakshuka, burekas, halva recipes and offerings similar to those in Arab countries only they are prepared according to the religious rules of observant Jews. Rabbis, prelates and Catholics like to frequent the kosher restaurant where each recipe is a " modern interpretation of biblical dishes " (cit Corriere della Sera). We dined the first night at Cafe Rimon in Jerusalem, appreciating all the specialties this cuisine could offer us. Jerusalem by night was soon after the real discovery. The Capital of Israel over the years has become a city where nightlife entertainment is possible. It has westernized, becoming in some respects, much more modern than some of the better known Western cities. Clubs and bars are open late into the night. We for example sipped good wine while chatting with some Americans we met that evening at a bar near our Ibis Style Jerusalem City Center hotel The bar was a very small but cute little place, and it had struck me that it opened from midnight until 6 am. discovering Jerusalem The next morning we ventured out to discover this Land by entering the Old City of Jerusalem through one of its 8 gates , Jaffa Gate , the most famous. It is the only access available in the western part of the walls; these walls have protected the city for more than 2,000 years and are 12 m high. In the past this gate gave Jewish and Christian pilgrims access to Jerusalem, but today it gives access to the Arab market (suq) in the Muslim quarter, and always from here we set out to discover the holy sites. Via Dolorosa I still can't believe I walked this Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem. It is better known as the Way of the Cross, m arking the path that Jesus Christ followed from his condemnation to his crucifixion. Photo credit: it.maps-jerusalem.com With map in hand we walked through it all stopping at the most important stations . There are 14 total , only that the first " nine Station s of the Cross" are located on the street, outside. While the remaining five are located inside the Holy Sepulcher, All together, they symbolize the key moments of Christ's Passion. Walking through it all, we passed through every corner, even the smallest corner of the old city. Chiesa del Santo Sepolcro We reached it by following the route of the Via Dolorosa, since the last five stations are located right inside it, The Basilica is always crowded with pilgrims and tourists. Unlike other places of worship, there are no metal detectors or controls of any kind and especially no places forbidden to non-Christians. It is the most important church in Christendom, and even if you are not a practicing believer or churchgoer, it leaves you stunned and intoxicated with multiple positive feelings. The Stone of Unction , also known as the Stone of Anointing. Immediately visible at the entrance of the Basilica is the Anointing Stone : a stone slab where millions of the faithful commemorate the moment when hrist’ body was laid down after being removed from the crucifix and prepared for burial. I was excited and also knelt down to touch the slab with my hands. Even now I feel dazed thinking to the emotion I felt at that moment. I looked around and witnessed disarming acts of faith , especially in that Covid period (May 2022) when touching until recently had been a crime. Coinciding with the first weekend when Israel was open to tourism, it seemed to me as if the world had stopped before Covid. I saw believers sprinkling aromatic oils on the stone and laying their hands and any other kind of object on it and I repeated the same gestures together with them in respect for the sacredness of the place where Jesus' body was laid and anointed for burial. The Holy Sepulcher At some point you come to the circular structure that surrounds the Holy Sepulcher: The Aedicule of the Holy Sepulcher or the Rotunda. (14th Station) I waited in line for an hour to get in and it was forbidden to take pictures. This is also the conclusion of the Via Dolorosa, with the 14th station - The body of Jesus is placed in the tomb. An empty tomb. Humble. Dark. I wept before it. Calvary or Golgotha It is reached by going upstairs down flights of stairs. I didn't immediately understand what it was, then asking people in line I understood that I was at the site of Jesus' crucifixion If we imagine the movies they show us on TV or in the cinema during Easter or Christmas, everything is completely different Golgotha, the famous calvary hill where Jesus was crucified, and later resources became Imposing and lofty, far from the common stereotype of crosses with Jesus and the two thieves. An altar, like a fireplace, under which hidden by gold candelabra is a pit. There, underneath, was the cross of Jesus (12th and 12th stations). I touched it. Western Wall or Wailing Wall Before arriving in Jerusalem I imagined that the Wailing Wall was the most famous attraction to see . This is indeed the holiest site in Judaism and the true spiritual center of the Jewish people. Separate entrances for men and women, metal detectors at the entrance, the area dedicated to women was crowded yet I managed to get in and make my way through a crowd of praying women, aloud eager to touch the wall or deposit a prayer. It is truly imposing and is 488 meters long and 19 meters high, The wall is what remains of the ancient Temple of Solomon, destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D. during the siege of Jerusalem. Every year it attracts thousands of worshippers who come here to pray, or simply meditate with their foreheads resting against the wall. A magical but very simple place. Prayed. Touched with hand and forehead. Yehuda Market Often called the "Shuk, " market in Israel. It is a short walk from J affa Street and offers a huge assortment of produce as well as being really frequented by people of many different ethnicities. We were enchanted by a smoothie made with freshly squeezed fruit, taken after a long day out walking around. It cost like 30 shekels (just over 10 euros) a glass. It is absolutely worth going there, for the incredible colors and spices you can find . eating and sleeping in Jerusalem We stayed two nights at from Ibis Style Jerusalem City Center. However, if you can find a place, I recommend sleeping here Casa Nova as well. We dined the first night at Cafe Rimon and the second at one of the best street food in the area where really, we found the best falafel at Ben Sira Hummus Second stage Bethlehem - Nativity In the West Bank region is the Palestinian city of Bethlehem. In these 4 days of "Israel express" we also went for around trip day tour of Palestine. It is only 10 kilometers from Jerusalem but you need a passport to visit, by passing the "check points" with armed soldiers on both sides of the borders. This is the most curious and contradictory thing about this trip. We took more than two hours to get out of Bethlehem . For no apparent reason they had closed the checkpoint and we could no longer exit through the only access we knew. After an hour of wandering around by car, we got in the wake of a tour bus. A true act of faith! Behind it we went through the whole city, got stuck in traffic, but then we made it. In Bethlehem, the monument that attracts the attention of pilgrims and visitors is the Church of the Nativity , built over the famous Bethlehem cave where, according to the Bible, Jesus was born. We rented a car and we chose to travel to the Palestinian tow by ourserlves. The best way to get to Bethlehem from Jerusalem is by cab ( not all cabs are allowed to cross the border, so it is best to ask the driver before boarding) or by purchasing an organized excursion to Jerusalem. (I suggest to contact Judith from Secret Gardens, she is amazing) Another thing you cannot miss is the Graffiti drawn Wall (8 meters high) that marks the border between Israel and Palestine. The graffiti painted on it refers to freedom and the absence of freedom and the relationship between Israel and Palestine. There is also graffiti by Banksy. Mar Morto EXPERINCE After leaving Bethlehem, we went toward the Dead Sea. I dreamed of bathing in these waters and jumped in after almost 2½ hours in the car to get there. The Dead Sea is a unique place in the world, famous for its natural properties. You float in this sea. Y ou can't even hinder the floating process., it just makes you stay afloat without any difficulty. You can even read a book while floating. Its waters are the saltiest in the world. I imagined it to be an overwhelmingly beautiful place, but then seeing it I realized that it is worth the experience that makes you do more than anything else besides the colors of the sunset. It is located between Israel, the West Bank and Jordan . The Jordan River is the only source of water for the Dead Sea. It is a salty sea. It contains 30 percent , of salt so there are no signs of life in and near its waters: plants, fish or microorganisms, as is immediately perceived by the nonexistent vegetation around it. About the Dead Sea : it is 70 kilometers long and is located in a large depression about 420 meters below sea level, a depth that has earned it the record for being the lowest place on Earth. Grand final in Tel Aviv Moving from the Dead Sea to Tel Aviv (in just under 3h drive) we saw the landscape and lifestyle change dramatically. I honestly did not think before we left that Tel Aviv could be so alive and fashionable. In fact peop'le says " In Jerusalem you Pray, Tel Aviv you Play. " We arrived on Thursday evening. the day before Shabbat "the rest" which begins with sunset on Friday and ends with sunset on Saturday. We stayed in a sea view Selina Beach Hotel downtown . When we arrived, traffic was at a standstill and there were really a lot of people on the streets and in the clubs. It seemed like it was New Year's Eve because of how many people were out having fun. Tel Aviv is a multiethnic destination , I will tell you then what things I did in two days . The climate is Mediterranean and pleasant all year round. We stayed in May therefore the temperatures were perfect. I therefore recommend visiting in the spring or around September/October. Lungomare & spiagge Tel Aviv's waterfront is one of the longest in the world and is in the city. We like the sea therefore this area had seemed the best place from which to explore the city. In fact, this is where most of the metropolitan life takes place. We walked most of the waterfront to Yaffa (the must-see market) and slept in the grass , under the shade of a tree . Really relaxing and great. For lunch and sea bathing we stayed at Banana Beach. Very central and well attended. The food great as always. In addition to the Falafel and typical local salad, I discovered a fantastic culinary combination, Watermelon and Greek feta , which I have also repurposed in Puglia during my dinners. For dinner we went to Port Said, also Yafo area, the trendiest tapas bar in Tel Aviv . We went back there twice. The atmosphere is fantastic. Accomplice to the weather and the friendliness of the bar tenders, we eat outside, on the tables under the porches , but often also on the steps next to the bar with great background music. Giaffa o Yafo Jaffa (Yafo in Hebrew) the old City of Tel Aviv but also its most historic neighborhood. This is where I spent most of my time during the very short stay in Tel Aviv (in fact we promised to return soon). The old city is filled with many alleys and Ottoman houses. It is populated by so many artists and is one of the trendiest neighborhoods in Tel Aviv. Take a walk through the Hapishpeshim souk (the marketplace) and visit the Franciscan Church of St. Peter, where Napoleon is suspected to have stayed after taking the city. At lunch at Yafo's the next day, I met fellow journalist Fiammetta Martegani (curator of the Eretz Israel Museum , Tel Aviv). She is from Milan but has lived in Tel Aviv for 12 years We met in Puglia and we get soon in connection. We are both lovers of good food (Apulian and international). Local Italians consider her the coolest party queen in the area, I let her guide us on a tour of the city and to taste one of the best Hummus in Tel Aviv. We met at Shimon the Soup King. In the heart of Yafo a Lebanese restaurant frequented mainly by locals. In short an authentic experience .hummus , falafel and pita fabulous. Among nice places to eat I also suggest Romano house, they say it is one of the best pizza in Tel Aviv. And for a taste of Italy a good coffee to drink at TAMATI COFFE. Also to sip on the street Small tips: Tel Aviv is so expensive

  • Sleeping in a Ryokan, A traditional Japanese inn in Japan

The traditional Japanese inn you absolutely must stay at on your trip to the Land of the Rising Sun or on your world adventure travels You cannot say you have really visited Japan without spending time in a ryokan. A ryokan is much more than a place to sleep. Sleeping in a Ryokan, A traditional Japanese inn in Japan, transforms the trip into something deeper, an unforgettable memory that remains impressed on the heart. It is an experience that goes beyond tourism, a moment of authentic connection with the soul of Japan, which is why it should never be missing from a trip to the archipelago Nella mia rubrica "A portata di Manu"  ti propongo idee e itinerari o suggerimenti su cose da fare se vieni da queste parti. What is Ryokan? The ryokan (旅館) is a traditional Japanese inn. Imagine a traditional Japanese inn, left unchanged from the days of the Edo era, around 1600 to 1800. There are no normal beds here, but tatami, or straw floors, on which futons and soft mattresses are placed. They seem a little uncomfortable at first, but really it's all part of the charm! They can be found all over Japan, but the more historic cities, such as Kyoto, offer the most authentic experiences.. RYOKAN MURAYAMA After choosing cities to visit, we decided to experience ryokan in Takayama, Takayama is an enchanting town surrounded by the Japanese Alps. The atmosphere here is truly magical, with sloping-roofed wooden houses and sake distilleries that take you back in time. Our Ryokan, il Murayama , was just outside the center, and the owner picked us up directly from the station by minibus. Of course, we had also booked the traditional dinner, served Japanese style. I don't deny that the flavors were peculiar. Like, we had jellyfish! Here, maybe not my favorite dinner, but nevertheless, the experience itself was so unique that I would do it again a thousand times. The first thing? Take off your shoes. Yes, wearing the traditional wooden slippers is a must here, which you then leave at the entrance to the room, where you will find other slippers ready and waiting for you. If you think you can get away with English, no, not here! No one spoke English, so thank goodness for Google Translate! She greeted us with a smile and had our Yukata (浴衣) and all the necessary bathing kit in the room. The Yukata (浴衣) which was a wonderful green - definitely the most beautiful of the vacation! Wearing it to walk around inside the ryokan, even just to go to the bathroom, was really a special touch. After checking in, the owner escorted us to our room, giving us a quick tour of the ryokan and showing us the Onsen, or indoor baths/spas. ONSEN Onsen (温泉)means “hot water or hot spring.” They are popular in Japan and there is a v ery strong culture of purification. Ryokan do not have in-room bathrooms, but there are dedicated areas. O nsen have a temperature of 40°C but there are also springs with a water temperature close to boiling! In fact, in order to enjoy the “ Japanese bath ” we added cold water, taken from the adjacent showers. The baths are divided by gender, so you will have to greet your opposite-sex partner or friend already upon entering the facility. In the Onsen, people are naked, bathing suits are not allowed AND PHOTOS ARE ALSO FORBIDDEN. However, you can bring small towels that are used to cover your private parts. When you are inside the Onsen you should keep these towels out of the water. Once you enter the Onsen area, the tubs or hot-water pool are immediately visible, but there is still one key step to be observed. Near the tubs you will find showers stocked with liquid soap, shampoo, and a stool to sit on. You must compulsorily SIT on the footstool and you must thoroughly wash your body from head to feet, a veritable “bath before bathing.” This gesture is not only a matter of hygiene, but also has deep cultural significance: to contaminate the “sacred waters” would be a serious sign of disrespect for the ancient local tradition . Bathing in the onsen, in fact, is not for washing, but only for relaxation. PLEASE NOTE. It is important to mention one of the most delicate issues related to onsen: the one of tattoos. Until a few years ago, most public hot springs prohibited entry to tattooed people because of the cultural connection between tattoos and affiliation with organized crime, known as “yakuza.” For this reason, the only option for those with tattoos was to frequent private onsen, often located in upscale ryokan or exclusive establishments that allowed access. In recent years, however, many public establishments have begun to allow entry to tattooed people as well, recognizing the growing tourist interest in these natural springs. SHIRAKAWAGO - UNESCO HERITAGE SITE NEARLY TWINNED WITH ALBEROBELLO Before arriving at the Ryokan in Takayama city, on the same bus/train line is the historic village of Shirakawa-go where we spent the morning There are various ways to get to SHIRAKAWAGO from Tokyo . We decided to buy a ticket for the fast regional towards NAGOIA (2h and a half) and from Nagoya station we took a BUS diretto per Shirakawago (1h and a half) which is then the same one that also took us to Takayama (1h bus ride from SHIRAKAWAGO)           Shirakawa-go is one of those villages where you can re-experience the atmosphere of Japan's past. Almost twinned with the Puglia town of Alberobello, known for its cone-shaped stone-roofed houses, Trulli house. Nestled in the valley of the Shogawa River, Shirakawa-go consists of numerous traditional thatched-roof houses that have earned this place UNESCO World Heritage designation . Some residences date back more than 250 years, and their distinctive style is called “gassho-zukuri,” which literally means “hands joined in prayer,” because of the sloping shape of the thatched roofs. Some of the houses are accessible from the inside, making it possible to discover fragments of daily life from a time long gone by visiting the rooms where families lived and worked. I recommend reaching the Belvedere- An intense 20-minute climb from which you overlook the entire village.

  • Visiting Hiroshima and Miyajima: my Japan trip

The last stop on my trip to Japan was an immersion in world history and the sacredness of its privileged island In Hiroshima, I found not only a city to explore, but mainly an important history lesson of Japan and humanity to discover. What struck me most was how this deep wound of war was transformed into a powerful symbol of peace. It was exciting to immerse myself in this place and confront its story of resilience and hope . Hiroshima city is dilapidated. It is standing still in the years immediately after reconstruction but there is a sacredness in the air and a deep respect for history. From Osaka we took a Shinkansen (2h) and arrived at Hiroshima Station . From Hiroshima Station by Tram (Enkobashicho) in 25 minutes we arrived at Fukuromachi and in 8 minutes we were at the Museo della Pace and visited the whole complex including the Park In my column "A portata di Manu"  I offer you ideas and itineraries or suggestions of things to do if you come to these parts. Write to us atapugliesearoundthewolrd@gmail.com   I left as coordinator of World Travel Adventures,  and have been coordinating Japan Short Discovery.   8 participants including myself from north to south of the boot. WHERE IT IS. Located in the southern part of Japan's main island, Honshu, Hiroshima can be reached by bullet train. Sadly known to the world for the atomic bombing on August 6, 1945, which brought total destruction and immense tragedy, Hiroshima today is a city surrounded by greenery, with a confident and cheerful population of more than one million. HIROSHIMA PEACE MEMORIAL L’Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum ,  is open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. from March to November. Walking through the park, the first building that catches the eye is the A-bomb Dome (where the A stands for Atomic), one of the very few buildings to remain standing following the atomic bomb explosion (it was only 160 meters away from the epicenter of the blast), becoming one of the symbols of the city. An international symbol for the abolition of nuclear weapons and for lasting world peace. Also a short distance away is the Flame of Peace , a flame that has been burning continuously since it was lit on August 1, 1964 , symbolizing the commitment of the anti-nuclear activists to “keep the flame burning until the day when all nuclear weapons are gone from the Earth, ” and the monument statue of Sadako Sasaki holding a golden crane, in honor of a little girl who died of leukemia as a result of radiation released by the atomic bomb. We visit the Peace Museum, which traces, through original documents, the history of the atomic attack and its effects on the population with 3-D videos and historical artifacts. To avoid lines, purchase tickets online.   A DAY ON THE ISLAND OF MIYAJIMA After visiting the Peace Museum in the afternoon, we take the BUS to Hiroshima Harbor towards Miyajima Station.(30 minutes) and take streetcar line number 2 at a cost of 270 yen. Miyajima Island (or Itsukushima) can be easily reached from Hiroshima city via train and ferry, or with a direct connection from downtown Hiroshima via ship to the ferry port, Miyajima-guchi.. Upon arriving at the port of Miyajima-guchi, called Miyajimaguchi Station , it remains to take a short 10-minute ferry (ferry) ride. There are two companies available, JR ( qui l’orario delle partenze ) e la Matsudai Ferries ( qui la timetable ). Altogether they make about 6-8 departures i n an hour and both cost 170 yen for a one-way trip. So take the one that leaves earlier, unless you have the Japan Rail Pass with which you can take JR ferries for free. We arrive at 6 p.m. and everything was now almost closed. We check in right away. For one night we stayed at Miyajima Hotel Makoto  a very nice hotel. 80s but courteous staff. In the room we find the yukata and everything we need for the stay. There is also the Onsen and we immediately take advantage of it. Immediately afterwards we set out to find a place to have dinner. Everything here really closes very early, at 8:30 p.m. We went to the only open restaurant in the street near the harbor for dinner. We were hungry and wanted to try the famous giant oysters famous throughout Japan . We find out that you can only pay in cash and revise our order. We did not have much cash at the end of the vacation. An unfortunate evening for the caterer but cmq we manage to eat the oysters. We had a wonderful oyster dinner. The island is famous for oysters among the largest oyster farmers in the whole of Japan, which can be enjoyed grilled, boiled or fried. Or with rice. Oyster production is a real local economic resource and accounts for 60-70% of the total oyster production in the country Immediately after dinner we appreciate with a walk the quietness of the island that is completely deserted but has a magical atmosphere The following day we wake up very early and set off to explore the island. We breathe spirituality (on one side) great tourist and trade skills (on the other). Miyajima Island is one of the most visited places in Japan, and the GIANT Torii in the center of the island's bay that seems to float on the sea is one of the most iconic images of the Land of the Rising Sun. It is an island in Hiroshima Bay famous worldwide for its shrine and especially for the red Torii placed in the sea. It is a very popular tourist destination, and if you are planning your first trip to Japan it is very likely that it will be a stop you visit. The vast majority of visitors who come to Miyajima choose to visit the island in a day, but we decided to stay at least one night so that we could see a different, certainly more intimate aspect of this beautiful island. The Big red Torii Miyajima's best known and most photographed icon ever. The large floating portal in front of the shrine that ideally separates the human world from the spirit world. It can already be glimpsed from the ferry and can be reached by a 10-minute walk from the harbor. If you want to better plan your visit, check the tide times of Miyajima in advance. It is in fact only at high tide that you will see the Torii floating on the water. This usually happens in the morning. While in the afternoon the low tide comes in and the spectacle is different: you will have a chance to walk on the seabed until you touch the portal but the scenic effect will be slightly less .   Itsukushima Shrine It is a gateway into the sea is part of the Itsukushima Shrine, one of the oldest in the region and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a mandatory passage. You pay a Ticket of 100 yen to cross it and go to the other side of the island where you can lie on the beach and go to some bar or restaurant to eat. A sacred place of Shintoism from the earliest times. The first shrine buildings here were probably erected in the 6th century . The present shrine dates from the 12th century, and the harmoniously arranged buildings reveal great artistic and technical skill. The shrine plays on the contrasts of color and form between sea and mountain and illustrates the Japanese concept of scenic beauty, combining nature and human creativity.   Omotesando Street This is the main street. It is filled with gift stores, restaurants, cafes, ice cream stores, candy stores, art and souvenir stores . It is a forced passage to reach the shrine from the harbor. We had breakfast at 11 a.m. with fried oysters and potatoes. Then coffee at Starbucks. You definitely lose a lot of time entertaining yourself in the little local stores and buying souvenirs.   Salire sul monte Misen Several of us have climbed this mountain by Funicular and I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU DO IT. At 535 meters high , Mount Misen is the highest mountain on the island. From the top you can enjoy a beautiful view of the islands in the bay . You can go up and down either on foot (2H) or by cable car (1010 yen one way, 1840 yen round trip) . There are three different hiking trails that can be taken on this island: the Momijidani trail, the Daisho-in trail, and the Omoto trail. Each of the trails reaches Mount Misen and takes about two hours. If you take the cable car, be aware that from the arrival station and the summit there is still about twenty minutes of ascent. Along the forest trails you may occasionally encounter monkeys or deer.

  • My Japan Trip: Some Adventures Between History and Tradition

During a fascinating 17-day tour, I discovered the extraordinary history of Japan through its most iconic sites.   This trip took me from the modern sky scrapers of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka to the enchanted atmospheres of small villages like Shirakawago  and Takayama,  where time seemed to stand still. I explored cities like Hiroshima , laden with history and memory, and breathtaking natural landscapes like Miyajima Island.   In my column “Within Manu's reach ,” I offer you ideas and itineraries or suggestions of things to do if you come to these parts. Write to us at apugliesearoundthewolrd@gmail.com   I leave as coordinator of World Travel Adventures,  and have been coordinating Japan Short Discovery.   8 participants including myself from north to south of the boot. I tailored the tour according to my style dedicated to adventure, discovery, and food without sacrificing comfort in the choice of hotels. I tried to listen to the needs of my group (new friends, travelers I met at the airport in Rome on departure but whose demands I had tried to construe during our pre-departure chats and phone calls). After a morning wake-up call and at least  20 km of walking each day, I always opted for hotels with a minimum of three stars and close to at least one Metro stop. WHERE JAPAN IS AND HOW TO GET THERE Japan is a set of islands located in the northern hemisphere, facing the two Koreas and partly Russia and China. The country, therefore, is located in East Asia  and stretches almost 750 kilometers. It is washed on the east by the Pacific Ocean  and on the west by three seas: the East China  Sea , the Japan  Sea and the Okhotsk  Sea . Its strategic location and vast expanse allow for different types of travel arrangements. Usually if you are going to Japan for the first time, I recommend you choose to visit the main island of Honsu , where the most important metropolises are located (Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Nara) or, you can opt for a sea voyage, in which you can explore its tropical islands. and visit Okinawa Prefecture : a complex of atolls located in the East China Sea  and constituting the southernmost area of the Land of the Rising Sun. Here you can find crystal-clear waters, tropical plants, and pristine white beaches where you can spend a relaxing vacation. With 90  airports serving domestic and international flights, Japan is an extremely efficient country on the air travel front, although the main airports in Japan are Tokyo Narita (NRT), Tokyo Haneda (HND) and Osaka Kansai (KIX) .   Japan surprised me with its unique balance of tradition and modernity-I discovered an Eastern but profoundly different country, Asian but far from any stereotypical .   Each spot visited gave me a new perspective on this fascinating and uniquely beautiful land. Imagine a trip to a place where the future runs on the fastest trains in the world, known as projectile trains or  Shinkansen while the past is revealed in the Geishas in Kyoto  (rare to see but in the Gion district you can always spot a few) in the kimonos and ancient traditions, such as the tea ceremony for which there are still academies today to pass on this custom. Here, even greetings are made with a bow, an ancient gesture that tells stories of respect and culture.   Personally, I was amazed by this world and its culture in which every detail was incredible. We stayed in a Ryokan in  Takayama,  we meditated in a hidden temple, Shukubo , on   Koyasan Mountain and explored ancient sacred paths, and we boarded a Shinkansen  more than once, which thrilled us as soon as we saw it arrive in its unique design.   We discovered the wonders of  Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Shirakawago and Takayama , walked alone among the reeds in the bamboo forest of Arashiyama , the red temple Fushimi Inari Shrine , strolled with fawns through the streets of    Nara   and admired the imposing Torii on the spiritual island of Miyajima   We departed from Tokyo, It was here that our food and wine tour  began , an adventure among the authentic flavors of the Rising Sun that led us to discover an outstanding culinary tradition . The journey began with the famous sushi, one of the icons of Japanese cuisine. But forget about the many Western or European variations: here, sushi is an art . Local ingredients, fresh and of the highest quality, come together in perfect balance, providing a unique taste experience. Every bite is an explosion of flavors that is unmatched by what you've tried elsewhere.   We did not stop, of course, at Sushi. Ramen , with its rich soup and fragrant noodles, was another star of our trip. Although now known all over the world, tasting it in Japan is a different story.  The traditional version, steaming hot and flavorful, is a treat for the palate, despite the muggy summer days   Among the specialties we have had the pleasure of discovering, we must include  udon, those thick and tasty  noodles , and the prized Wagyu and Kobe  beef. You may have heard of Kobe  beef , but it is Wagyu,  with its perfect marbling and unmistakable taste, that steals the show in local restaurants. Grilled, griddled, or marinated (do-it-yourself at the table) it is a real treat not to be missed.   Okonomiyaki,  a kind of Japanese omelet made freshly with eggs, flour and cabbage, was another dish that won us over. Imagination is the limit here-you can customize it with meat, fish, vegetables, or cheese to create a combination of flavors that satisfies every palate.   And then there is Katsudon , a true highlight of Japanese cuisine. This breaded and fried pork dish, served over rice, differs in detail depending on the region in which you enjoy it, but wherever you taste it, it is a guarantee of goodness. Crispy, flavorful, yet incredibly light, it is one of those delicacies you won't be able to forget . At each stop on this culinary journey, we were rediscovering the pleasure of enjoying authentic food, prepared with fresh, local ingredients. An experience that goes beyond just eating, turning into a true ritual. Do not miss the street food with a taste to so much other food such as Cheesecake , fish and meat street food and giant oysters in Miyajima   TELEPHONY AND DATA To be connected to the Internet at all times, buy prepaid E-SIMs with unlimited data traffic. choosing from Airalo or Holafly plans. I suggest  Holafly  which we purchased from Italy for 48 euros each,  install it before you leave, and activate it as soon as you land. Unlimited data for 2 weeks. Otherwise if your phone is not compatible you can order a Poket wifi  (again from Italy and before you leave) and have it shipped to the first hotel you stay in. We used this POCKET WIFI   BEST APPS FOR GETTING AROUND JAPAN Google Maps: the easiest and most widely used Navitime Japan  co: Very popular navigation app, provides information on trains, with filter to include only those vehicles included in the JRP HOURS. + 7.00 hours Standard time + 8.00 hours MONEY AND CREDIT CARDS   The currency of Japan is the Yen. Even today, despite the fact that the Japanese are considered very tech-savvy, cash is widely used. However, you can bring from Italy a base of YEN ( JPY  85,000 if you order them from the bank at least 30 days in advance) as well as 600 euros in cash to change there. It is also sometimes convenient to withdraw directly from ATMs. Everywhere especially in big cities ( Tokyo - Kyoto - Osaka ) you can pay by card or exchange euros. When paying by credit card, it is always convenient to pay in local currency.  Tour guides, transfers and some restaurants do not accept cards. Find out before entering any activity so you don't run out of money. At the ATM they always ask you the question IS THE CARD SAVING OR CREDIT ?    The answer is always SAVING (cost 5 euros the withdrawal)     SUICA CARD FOR ON-SITE PAYMENTS AND TRAVEL   Basic essentials for traveling in Japan. SUICA   is a prepaid card without which you absolutely cannot stay in Japan . It can be used to take the train, the subway, purchases at vending  machines (in the sweltering summer heat you only find vending machines around that accept SUICA) and at 7eleven (where we went every day several times a day to buy groceries and get sushi as early as breakfast) at certain stores and at Coinlockers,  very common pay-as-you-go lockers .   SUICA can be used throughout Japan . For those who have an iPhone smartphone , you can load the Suica on the wallet and top it up time after time. Otherwise for ANDROID you can buy it as soon as you go to a JRP  (Japan Rail Pass) office and it is valid for 10 years ( JPY 2000  first recharge with JPY 500  activation fee). The card will take away the BIG hassle of making a ticket each time. In fact, you only need to put it down (also applies to IPHONE) at the turnstile at the entrance of the station and then do the same operation at the exit. The cost of the ticket will be automatically deducted from your card. It is possible for ANDROIDs to reload the card at vending machines or at some 7-eleven equipped with this service. TOUR GUIDES   It is always recommended to have a tour guide especially in Tokyo, When you arrive in these latitudes you feel that everything is chaos, which you then discover is only apparent after a few days. In Tokyo we were followed by Riccardo Rossetti ,  an Italian who has lived here for more than 10 years, a restaurant guru who gave us a concise but essential smattering of the city and never missed a place for us to go to eat. Riccardo is invaluable especially in the preparatory part of the trip and was an exquisite and helpful person. In Kyoto we relied on  Roxana Russo  an Italian who has been perfectly integrated in Kyoto for more than 30 years prepared about the places, a writer she has written books - Ainu The Hidden Shadows -  about the history of the indigenous people of Japan, long forgotten and marginalized. With her it is possible to tailor-make and build a tour of this city to your needs   JAPAN RAIL PASS FOR SUBWAY AND INTERCITY TRAVEL   If you plan to travel by public transportation but also travel between cities, it is essential to purchase the Japan Rail Pass  ( JRP) by booking it already from Italy. It is valid 7-14-21 days from the time of its activation. The 7-day one is usually the most popular, although it does not cover the entire period so it may be necessary to purchase individual fast train tickets that on average cost from 60 euros and up. To activate the JRP  we went to the JR office at Tokyo station  and changed it by simply providing vouchers and passports. It is necessary to indicate the day from which you intend to activate it. If you have an established schedule, you can also reserve seats at least for the Shinkansen fast trains (Timetable and Seat). Otherwise, you can go through the turnstiles with the JRP and stand in line in one of the three Shinkansen  cars where reservations are not required. If you unluckily miss the JRP , it will not be possible to get a copy and you will be forced to buy individual tickets. The JRP allows you to take JR train  lines throughout the country , plus unlimited rides on most Shinkansen ( “bullet trains ”    EXCEPT NOZOMI and MIZUHO  ) and express, express and local trains in the JR network. The JR Pass can be used on the Tokyo Monorail, the Yamanote (Tokyo subway) line, as well as JR local buses. Baggage service note: the freedom and luxury of Hands Free travel If you are planning a trip to Japan, one tip that may prove extremely useful is to consider shipping your luggage directly from the airport to your hotel, or from one hotel to another . Although at first glance this may seem like an unnecessary or expensive option, it can actually make your trip much more enjoyable and less stressful. Imagine you have your hotel in Tokyo, but your next stop is Shirakawago, with an overnight stay in a Ryokan in Koyasan. You have two options: travel with all your luggage in tow, facing the journey and the night with a bulky load, or do as many experienced travelers in Japan do, ask the front desk of your hotel to help you ship your luggage directly to the next hotel. For example, if you are in Tokyo (as in our case) you could easily arrange for your luggage to be shipped from your hotel to your hotel in Kyoto, scheduling your arrival two days later (so that you spend a night out in Koyasan) so that you can face the journey with only a light backpack. This will allow you to explore mindlessly, enjoying each leg of your itinerary with greater freedom and comfort.
