  • 10 Must-Do Things to Do in Gravina in Puglia

The Acquedotto Bridge in Gravina in Puglia has become an iconic location for Hollywood thanks to the James Bond scene in No Time To Die The scene is really crazy not only for the people of Gravina but for the whole world. Daniel Craig a.k.a. James Bond 007 to escape from a motorcycle speeding towards him jumps from the rail of the Acquedotto Bridge in Gravina in Puglia into the void, hanging only from a rope Leggi anche 10 + 3 COSE IMPERDIBILI DA FARE NEL PARCO DELL'ALTA MURGIA Gravina in Puglia had already been the set of Italian and international productions in the past from Sergio Rubini's film“ Il Bene mio ”, to director Garth Davies' drama " Mary Magdalene " cstarring Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara as Jesus and Mary Magdalene respectively and Chiwetel Ejiofor as the apostle Peter, to Garrone's Pinocchio in which the famous wooden child walked with his back to the bridge. Also a Hollywood star thanks to No time to die with Daniel Craig, and who knows, now history may repeat itself with the star of such colossals as Top gun (the new chapter Maverick was released last year) and Mission impossible , Tom Cruise was spotted in Bari a few months ago in a Top secret version. Il Ponte Acquedotto , Ambassador of history If we think of the city d Gravina, the first thing that comes to mind is to visit where the Ponte Acquedotto . is located. Without a doubt this is the symbol of the city , as majestic as it is imposing, it is perfect as a starting point for an excursion here on the murgia. The first, walking down the stone staircase (via giudice Montea) that brings you from the Belvedere della Gravina towards the bastion. There right in the middle of the steps, a spectacle of nature presents itself before your eyes, looking to your left, where the connection between past and present is clearly visible . By the way, if you are crazy about photos, it is also the most Instagrammable spot in the city. In my column "A portata di Manu"  I offer you ideas, experiences and itineraries as well as things to do if you come to these parts whether you are a foreign visitor or a tourist at home. In the article (next to each experience) are all the references for booking tickets or excursions or guided tours in the area . After crossing the bridge and thinking that you too would want to do some healthy Bungee Jumping at OO7 keep going straight ahead. You will arrive, just after the bridge at the Pianoro Madonna della Stella , located at the foot of Botromagno Hill, the beating heart of the ancient settlements, At the most extreme part of the rock, looking to the right, almost falling down, I recommend that you sit and admire this ancient beauty. You will feel like you are in another epoch and have gone back in time. This is the second perspective from which I recommend the Gravina Bridge for an unforgettable shot. From here the depth of the canyon is clearly visible. To your left you can glimpse the bridge in its entirety, to your right the Cattedrale di Santa Maria dell'Assunta And its bell tower. At its foot is the medieval Piaggio District , today undergoing recovery and redevelopment. I like to describe this bridge also as a witness to the events that have shaped the life of the local community over the centuries. He is the true silent narrator of Gravina's histor y and still today the “faithful” guardian of the stories of those who have inhabited the enchanting natural environment of the ravines. WHERE GRAVINA IS LOCATED AND HOW TO GET THERE Gravina in Puglia is a municipality in the province of Bari, located in the heart of the Murge highlands, in the Apulian hinterland bordering Basilicata, with which it shares the Bradano River. Seat of the Parco Nazionale Alta Murgia , a few kilometers from Matera e Altamura , while Bari is about 60 km from this city. Pope Benedict XIII, born Pietro Francesco Orsini (in religion Vincenzo Maria), was born in Gravina in Puglia on February 2, 1649. Pope from 1724 to 1730, he is owed important architectural works in the city of Rome, as well as the inauguration of the Spanish Steps of Trinità dei Monti, which connects the church of the same name to the Spanish Steps. Whether you come alone or with family, there is always something nice to do. If you arrive in Puglia by plane , I suggest you land at Bari Airport. From the airport walk to the train station inside the airport and from there take: - From the airport train station, take the train that will take you to Bari Centrale o Bari Centrale FNB (ferrovie nord barese). From the central station you can internally reach the Bari Centrale FAL (ferrovie Appulo Lucane) - station platforms - spot the elevator and go up to the second floor, the FALs depart from there. With this train you can also reach Matera . by car If you choose to rent a car at the airport, you will set the city of your interest on the GPS , which you will reach via the SS96 If you arrive from the A14 Adriatic highway, you can take various exits: Canosa di Puglia, Andria-Barletta, Trani, Molfetta, Bitonto, Bari-North, Bari-South, Gioia del Coll e from the A14 Bologna highway. After the exit you will find directions to the various cities in the Murgia. It is important to know that this city made the “stupor Mundi” Frederick II of Swabia , of the Holy Roman Empire, capitulate. Here Frederick II of Hohenstaufen, had a castle built in 1224 known to all as the Castello di Gravina, of which today the soaring ruins remain on the top of a hill north of Gravina, always well lit and visible. This castle is part of the “triad of Frederician castles,” imposing fortresses that constitute a valuable historical and architectural treasure linked to the era of the influential Holy Roman Emperor. They include the famous Castel del Monte ad Andria, awarded the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site, Castello del Garagnone in Poggiorsini. The Greeks called Gravina Sidion, land of pomegranates the Romans Silvum land of forests. The first settlement dates back to the Neolithic age. It was located on the Petra Magna (o Botromagno ) , hill, on the other side of the Acquedotto Bridge, opposite to where the town stands today. With the Greeks, Sidion evolved to become such an important center that it went so far as to mint its own coinage. Under the Roman Empire the town was called Silvium . It was a military station located on the Appian Way and served to supply marching armies. BUT WHAT ARE THE MUST-DO EXPERIENCES IN GRAVINA? ON THE TRAIL OF JAMES BOND ON THE ACQUEDOTTO BRIDGE An ambassador of Gravina's history, it has always been a key element in the settlement of local people. Tra i 15 capolavori nel mondo da attraversare (Leggi speciale) The Acquedotto Bridge is not only an extraordinary work, but a place that takes you into the authentic heart of Gravina. 37 meters high, 90 meters long and 5 and a half meters wide, it was originally used to allow people to cross the Botromagno Gravina and reach the enchanting rock church of Madonna della Stella. Probably made unstable by the 1686 earthquake, the bridge collapsed in the 1722 earthquake. It was in those dark days that the strength and resilience of the Gravina Acquedotto Bridge emerged. It was the feudal lords of the prestigious Orsini family of Rome who engaged in the reconstruction of the bridge. They had moved to the fiefdom of Gravina and ordered around the middle of the eighteenth century the reconstruction and transformation of the bridge into an aqueduct, to bring up to the city of Gravina the waters of the Sant'Angelo and San Giacomo springs, which were located on the Botromagno side, opposite from the first urban settlements. Historical sources reveal that the original structure of the bridge dates back to the late 17th century, as evidenced by an ancient Notarial Act of 1686. In those years the Gravina Acquedotto Bridge , also known as the viaduct of the Madonna della Stella was already a reference point in the daily life of the local community, providing an essential passage through the karstic landscape. This viaduct was the only means of connecting the two sides, divided by this canyon-like crater carved into the rock by the stream, the Crapo (the ancient name for the Gravina stream). Since 2012 one of the FAI places of the heart VISIT THE LARGEST UNDERGROUND CHURCH IN APULIA: SAN MICHELE DELLE GROTTE Facing the Gravina, located in the ancient Fondovito district, it is known as the Chiesa Grotta, immersed in the rock habitat of Gravina in Puglia with 5 naves and 14 pillars completely frescoed until the early 1900s. A town suspended between history and flavors, where the cuisine tells the identity of the Murge. A genuineness is at home. Manuela Lenoci A Pugliese Around the World Gravina in Puglia is a charming town where the local cuisine remains deeply connected to the land and its centuries-old traditions. In this region, you'll find authentic, unique dishes  that you won't easily find elsewhere. Notable examples include Ruccolo , a focaccia traditionally made for St. Joseph’s Day  and now reinterpreted with a modern twist; Calariello , a simple yet flavorful dish that reflects the region's history of resourceful cooking; the famous Tarallo di Gravina , a dry bread flavored with wild fennel; and Sasanello , a sweet and spicy traditional dessert. The use of wild herbs  and alimurgical spices , unique to the area, further elevates the flavors of these dishes, providing a distinctive taste of the Murgia. Gravina's cuisine is both simple and rich , offering an authentic culinary experience that is best enjoyed on-site. Gravina Food and Wine It offers a range of typical food and wine products that are now part of the local culture and around which much interest is observed. • Hen Party Malta: 48 hours of pure adrenaline

Direct flight from Bari and major italian hub for the Hen Party in Malta . Easy to reach, and with an incredible variety of experiences wayting for the Spring Bank Holidays 2025 The hardest obstacle was choosing a date when we were all available. Five women from different planets and lives, but with one certainty " Malta is the Travel to do for our Federica's Hen party ". After having settled the children at home, the dogs at the hotel, the office chores and the plants at the neighbor's, we set off towards Malta, Valletta. Federica - The Bride - with her Team Bride Alessandra , Gabriella, Marcella and myself made her first appearance in the Maltese dolce vita, standing tall on one of the coolest Rooftops in the archipelago, Infinity by Hugo's . After all, a hen party in Malta is the coolest destination to get excited in 48 hours of pure adrenaline. Less than 48 hours in Malta, with us, were 3 weeks to tell . Malta is an excellent destination that I recommend to anyone who wants an ideal location for an easy on the road itinerary but also a long weekend on a boat or at the sea among the islands of the archipelago. Public transportation also works very well, should you want to get around the area. Buses in Malta run daily from 5:30am until 10:30pm. All buses are operated entirely by Malta Public Transport : up-to-date routes and timetables can be found on their website Infinity by Hugo , is located at the top of the H Hotel in St Julian's This place is really a MUST DO for a hen and stag party. Here we enjoyed a day surrounded by a panoramic view of St Julian's and the ocean. The outdoor infinity pool was stunning where the fun was to take all the selfies possible and imaginable, try to relax, eat as if there was no tomorrow, meet people from all over the world and.....appreciate the view. Like any self-respecting hen party, we sipped a Mojito in the VIP sofa area taking " The Bride" to enjoy the last moments of singlehood. Very international clientele and I would add a little Kitch but it was worth it How to get to Malta Obviously we leave from Bari and from here there is a direct flight with Ryanair three times a week (Mon - Fri - Sun) However, one of its main advantages is the fact that it is easily reachable, as the archipelago is well connected with Italy thanks to direct flights that depart from numerous other airports. With an average flight duration of about an hour and a half , Malta allows you to optimize even the shortest of long weekends, eliminating the long hours of travel that often consume precious days. For all the information, follow Visit Malta where is malta located The Malta archipelago, or the Calipsee Islands , is a southern European Union state located off the south-eastern coast of Sicily. and in a strategic position between Southern Europe and North Africa. It forms, together with the islands of Pantelleria and Lampedusa, the triangle of Mediterranean islands between the Italian coast and that of Tunisia . when to go to malta The spring bank holidays of 2025 offer the perfect opportunity to indulge in a short but regenerating trip to discover the archipelago of Malta which, in addition to the pleasant climate, represents a destination that contains all the ingredients for a memorable experience: easy accessibility and an incredible variety of experiences to invigorate body and spirit . The Maltese spring offers a mild climate ideal for exploring the islands without suffering the intense heat of the Mediterranean summer (which by the way is still fantastic for those who want to explore the islands by boat) . With average temperatures ranging between 15°C and 23°C between March and May , Malta offers sunny days perfect for outdoor activities, walks along the cliffs and even the first dips in the clear waters that surround the archipelago. One night in Malta Malta is not cheap but it is not prohibitive either . There are good compromises between hotels, restaurants and beaches . We preferred to stay in a structure in Sliema, a lively area and immediately outside the center, in short central but outside the circuits of the crazy Maltese nightlife . Ideal for moving around on foot safely. where to sleep The property was the Nautilus Boutique Townhouse narrow accommodation with a steep staircase and no elevator, but at the same time nice, clean and functional for a short stay. But on booking.com you can find every possible solution for all budgets and needs. The panoramic terrace was beautiful and only my sister-in-law Alessandra and I enjoyed it since we were on the upper floors. The others with rooms on the mezzanine floor gave up the stairs, concentrating their muscle warming only for the long walks to discover Malta. where and what to eat For dinner, as always, we were all on a diet, but then we found an understanding at the table: fish for everyone, fried and roasted with every delicacy in the center of the table. We had a divine dinner at Salt & Pepper a sea-facing restaurant in St. Julian's Bay. I must confess that I had already been to Malta ten years ago, appreciating above all its islands of Gozo and Comino and the crystal clear sea. A little minus the part of the nightlife that I had heard about and knew to be transgressive, crowded but for an audience suitable for the bride's age "30 years". Malta by night So a crowd bath in St Julian's where among the thousand bars and night clubs we managed to "get" a table at the SHISHA BAR in the central square. I can certainly say that the Maltese experience can be described with a "before" and " after " the encounter with the Shisha. undisputed protagonist of the second part of the holiday between funny sketches and nice humor that really made us have fun. Boat Trip In a seaside place like this where summer lasts from May to October they couldn't help but give us a day on a boat. In Malta it is easy to organize day trips , with expert skippers. This option is ideal for families and groups : a possibility that gave us the opportunity to explore the coast but also to enjoy a delicious lunch on board. Just go to the port of Sliema and you will find various solutions (private or group) to book your trip or simply get on a boat to adventure. Best Beaches in Malta Valletta A must-see if you come to Malta is Valletta. A World Heritage Site since 2018, it brings together more than 300 monuments to visit , some of which are very important, such as the National Museum of Archaeology or the Grand Master's Palace . Malta, unusual experiences to live on the island This island deserves at least a week's visit to explore its natural and historical wonders. • Malta's Most Enchanting Beaches: A Corner of Paradise in the Mediterranean

For every need: golden sand, rocks and crystal clear waters, relaxation, water sports and uncontaminated nature There are summer getaways and then there are the right summer getaways. The ones where you feel like the protagonist of a novel (maybe written by me when one day I'll be a bestselling author) , sipping a mojito, taking a selfie like in the photo above and above all with the sun kissing my skin and the sea behind me crystal clear and cold. Malta? Malta is just that. A destination in the heart of the Mediterranean that combines history, dream landscapes and different beaches but with crystal clear water. So, prepare your beach bag ( sunscreen mandatory, don't be a heroin addict!) and discover the most wow beaches of this island paradise. For all the information, follow Visit Malta How to get there Obviously we leave from Bari and from here there is a direct flight with Ryanair three times a week (Mon - Fri - Sun). However, one of its main advantages is the fact that it is easily reachable, as the archipelago is well connected with Italy thanks to direct flights that depart from numerous other airports. With an average flight duration of about an hour and a half , Malta allows you to optimize even the shortest bridges, eliminating the long hours of travel that often consume precious days. 1. Golden Bay: the golden kiss of the sun If your Instagram feed needs a little glamour, Golden Bay is the place to be. Golden sand, turquoise sea and sunsets that seem to have come out of a painting. Perfect for those who like to tan like a Greek goddess and then dive into the water with the grace of a mermaid (or at least try). Not to mention the beach clubs, where you can sip a cocktail surrounded by people who are a bit kitsch but perfect for the place. 2. Mellieħa Bay: a paradise for families (and relaxation lovers) Is this a place where the kids can splash around without you having to be in stressed lifeguard mode? Mellieħa Bay has fine sand, shallow water and there is also the possibility of renting a pedal boat or other water sports. Also perfect for those who want to read a book under the umbrella without the risk of being overwhelmed by high waves or sudden winds. 3. Ramla Bay: Gozo's best kept secret If you fancy a slightly wilder adventure, take the ferry to Gozo and head to Ramla Bay. The sand here is not golden, but reddish, creating a striking contrast with the blue sea. If you feel like exploring, there is also the mythological Calypso's Cave , where it is said that Ulysses was enchanted for seven years. And, honestly, after seeing the view, we can understand why. 4. Blue Lagoon: The Turquoise Paradise You Didn't Know Existed You know those postcard photos that make you think: Come on, it can't be true ? Well, the Blue Lagoon is just like that. Water so incredibly blue that it seems like you're swimming in a glass of Curaçao (which is actually pronounced Curasòn) is the result of the distillation of the peels of a particular type of orange , coming from the island of the same name, the main one in the Dutch Antilles archipelago. Perfect for snorkeling, scenic dives and, of course, to make those who stay in the office hate you while you post stories on Instagram with the dream sea in the background. The only flaw: WATCH OUT FOR JELLYFISH 5. Għajn Tuffieħa Bay: the beach worth every single step Getting to Għajn Tuffieħa Bay requires a bit of effort. You have to go down a scenic flight of 200 easy steps, which starts near a free car park, where there is a kiosk, selling drinks and snacks. It is located on the breathtaking north-west coast of Malta, a short walk from the beautiful village of Manikata. The area, however, is also served by buses, which run all day. Here, nature reigns supreme: spectacular cliffs, golden sand and a sea so clear you could see your feet even a meter deep. All without the crowds of a tourist village. 6. Xlendi Bay – Gozo’s Secret Hideout Xlendi Bay is a quiet spot, perfect for those seeking peace and natural beauty. An ancient fishing port, it is now a popular destination for hikers. The bay is flanked by steep cliffs, with crystal clear waters ideal for swimming and snorkelling. I chose to stay a few days to enjoy the breathtaking sunsets over the bay, which are truly a sight not to be missed . The area, although growing, is still quite undeveloped, with a selection of accommodation ranging from apartments to hotels, many of which offer incredible sea views. To fully experience the bay, I recommend climbing the steps that lead to the cliffs to the right of the bay. From there, the view is truly spectacular! And for swimming, dive off the coast between the rocks, with access made easy by a ladder that leads directly into the water. It is located at the end of a deep ravine easily accessible by car or bus from Victoria Hen Party in Malta: 48 hours of pure adrenaline LESS KNOWN BEACHES In Malta there are also lesser-known beaches often located in isolated places where the most authentic nature of the Mediterranean lives. Here you can truly relax in complete silence, lulled by the sound of the sea and the scent of flowers. Let's see together the four beaches that you could visit in Malta off the beaten track Slugs Bay – The Paradise I Didn’t Expect In the north of Malta, in Mellieha, I discovered a small hidden wonder: Slugs Bay . A corner of wild nature that immediately won me over. It envelops you because in addition to the sea you can walk among flowers and centuries-old trees. If you love diving, this is the ideal place, with a crystalline sea that invites you to dive into an underwater adventure with unexpected depths. It is a true secret corner! Santa Marija Bay – Two Paradises in One Island Comino is famous for the Blue Lagoon , but I want to tell you about a gem I discovered: just 20 minutes walk from the lagoon , there is the quiet Santa Maria Bay . The sea is a mix of turquoise and soft sand where it is really nice to sunbathe without fuss in absolute silence. An oasis of peace! Xrobb L-Ghaġin – The Beach Just for Me If you are looking for something truly remote and intimate, Xrobb L-Ghaġin is a possible solution. Located in the Delimara area, in the south-east of Malta, this beach is accessible only by sea. I rented a boat to get there and, once there, I relaxed. Between imposing cliffs and crystal clear water, it is the perfect place to find peace if you have a partner who obviously does not complain or is hyperactive . And after a day of total tranquility, a fresh fish dinner at the port of Marsaxlokk is the icing on the cake. St. Peter's Pool and Kalanka Bay – Treasures of the South If you haven't seen St. Peter's Pool yet, go. The sea is clear. I went snorkeling, the blue and green colors of the seabed are beautiful. The flat rocks around are perfect for sunbathing, for those like me who have difficulty walking on the rocks. While if you are looking for even more tranquility, a few steps away is Kalanka Bay . Turquoise waters, absolute peace and uncontaminated beauty, one of the most beautiful and spectacular natural pools in Malta. Two corners that steal your heart. And, of course, there is nothing better than ending the day with a fish dinner in Marsaxlokk . Did you find this guide useful? • Tenerife: Complete Guide for an Unforgettable Stay in the Canary Islands

Where to go, what to see and how to organize your perfect trip between beaches and recommended activities For my birthday this year I chose Tenerife . Spain always knows how to give great satisfaction, and this island is no exception. But Tenerife is not only a perfect destination for a holiday: it is a place where, at any age, many dream of moving. Beyond the real estate market – where house prices, driven by high demand, can reach between 7,000 and 10,000 euros per square meter – living here is an increasingly concrete idea for many. The infrastructure, especially the road network, is excellent , allowing you to move easily to every corner of the island. The cost of living is competitive , VAT is only 6% , and the climate offers a perennial spring . Sun, sea and efficient services , but not only: Tenerife is an island to live to the full . From the natural pools dug into the rock to the rural parks , such as Anaga , considered by many to be a magical place, up to the majestic Teide reserve, the highest volcano in Spain. To explore I suggest you go by quad waiting for the sunset which is truly exciting. Tenerife in 4 Days: Itineraries, Suggestions and Tips to Discover the Island In my column "A portata di Manu" I propose ideas, experiences and itineraries. Advice and suggestions to ensure a truly unique tour as well as some tips that could be useful to you as soon as you land in this land In Tenerife , in the same day, you can go from the sea breeze of the golden beaches to the biting cold of the peaks of Teide . A microcosm of climates and landscapes in which to organize yourself to survive without getting sick on vacation. Where is Tenerife located? If you are planning a trip to the Canary Islands or simply dream of visiting them, it is useful to know where they are and what to expect from this archipelago. The Canary Islands are a group of Spanish islands located in the Atlantic Ocean, off the northwest coast of Africa. They are part of Macaronesia, a region known for its volcanic landscapes and mild climate all year round. Thanks to their geographical location, these islands enjoy pleasant temperatures in every season , making them an ideal destination for those seeking sun and sea even in the winter months. The archipelago is made up of eight main islands of volcanic origin , each with different characteristics. The best known and most visited are Tenerife and Gran Canaria , suitable for families, couples or groups of friends. Fuerteventura and Lanzarote are famous for their beaches and unique landscapes, while La Gomera, La Palma, El Hierro and La Graciosa offer a quieter and more authentic experience. Even though they are located near the African continent, they are part of Spain and therefore the European Union . This makes them easily accessible for European travellers. Here you can see all the videos on INSTAGRAM The best time to visit them? It depends on personal preferences. We went in mid-March. Thanks to the favorable climate, every season is suitable, but spring and autumn are particularly pleasant to avoid the high tourist season. In my column you will find, in addition to the itinerary that I have organized, also some useful Tips to organize your trip, with advice on how to get there, which island to choose and when to leave. Tenerife for Gourmets: Where to Eat and What to Taste on the Island How to get to Tenerife There are two airports in Tenerife: Tenerife Norte ( Aeropuerto de Los Rodeos ) and Tenerife Sud ( Aeropuerto Reina Sofía ). Memorize this well. No, really. Because if you make a mistake, you could end up like me: landed in Norte , booked a car in Sud and a friendly taxi driver ready to take me on an hour's drive for the modest sum of 100 euros . A welcome souvenir, in short. If you are leaving from Italy and you are in Puglia, know that the closest direct flights depart from Naples and, luckily, land in Tenerife South (Reina Sofia) , the main airport on the island. At least there, no treasure hunt to pick up the car! Or stopover in Barcelona with Vueling There are several low cost companies that connect the main Italian cities to the Canary Islands, such as: Wizz Air, Ryanair or Vueling. Alternatively, many connections include a stopover in Spain. How to get around Tenerife We opted for the rental car , the most convenient choice to explore the island without constraints. Public transport is not always practical if obviously you have a few days and want to see everything without wasting time. We relied on AutoReisen ( autoreisen.com ) or Cicar ( cicar.com ) which at a cost of 20/30 euros per day provided us with a good solution. The service is simple and convenient: no prepayment, no credit card required and free cancellation until the day of departure . After filling out the online form, a confirmation email arrives immediately. Quick, easy and worry-free! During our four days in Tenerife , we chose Puerto de la Cruz , on the north coast, as a base to explore the island and live new experiences. Tenerife in 4 Days: Itineraries, Suggestions and Tips to Discover the Island Tenerife for Gourmets: Where to Eat and What to Taste on the Island If you have a few more days available you can relax in the parks and natural pools Siam Park – Europe’s top rated water park, perfect for those travelling with kids. The park offers a myriad of exciting water challenges ideal for families with teenagers. Siam Beach features the world’s tallest artificial wave. At three metres high, it’s perfect for learning to surf. Loro Park – In the North of Tenerife, Loro Parque was named Best Zoological Park in the World by visitors who voted for it on TripAdvisor. A magical place that is home to over 10,000 exotic animals at risk of extinction, representing over 500 species and subspecies from around the planet. Charco de la Laya – Natural pool without sand almost hidden located in North Tenerife Charco de la Laya - Worth a visit if you are passing through and then stop to eat Canarian cuisine in the taverns of San Juan de la Rambla, Natural beaches of Alcala - Black volcanic beach with a gray color. and pools created by the water. It is located next to a pier with fishing boats, which makes it one of the most picturesque in the area. There are many restaurants specializing in fish and traditional cuisine that are located in the surroundings. Before going to dinner, it is advisable to stay to enjoy the incredible sunsets over La Gomera that can be admired while staying on the beach. Quad Excursions El Teide (SEE ITINERARY) TIPS If you have more than 4 days you can also visit these Tenerife Beaches: Complete Guide for an Unforgettable Stay in the Canary Islands Playa Las Americas: It is a luxury resort on the southwest coast . It is practically impossible to get bored. Its streets are full of shops and bars and the sun invites you to relax on the beach at any time of the year . Playa de Las Vistas, Las Americas, Fanabe - Perfect for a relaxing day, with many services available. Los Gigantes , It is famous for its 600-metre high cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, which extend for 10 kilometres. Visit the cliffs by boat, with the possibility of stopping at Masca beach or spotting dolphins and whales . Info and reservations HERE Duke's Beach – Blue Flag, elegant beach with calm waters. • 10 Must-Do Things in Ruvo di Puglia

Famous throughout the world for the Jatta Museum, an extraordinary place that enchants the soul with its precious collection. Almost two centuries ago, Ruvo di Puglia, a small agricultural town in the north of Bari, left its mark on history, emerging from anonymity thanks to a chance archaeological discovery. The news of the discovery of grave goods, rich in treasures such as goldsmith's work, bronzes and above all " Etruscan vases" of exceptional artistic value, unleashed an unprecedented treasure hunt at the time. This fervor transformed Ruvo di Puglia into an open-air construction site, where everyone tried to sift through the necropolis, launching into a real race for archaeological loot to grab at least one piece. Photo by Giuseppe Caldarola Alongside the great names of archaeologists of the time, shady individuals appeared who wanted to make lucrative deals. Initially, it was not known where to place the finds, so many of them were placed in the antiquarian trade of Naples. Others found their home in the prestigious Real Museo Borbonico . Many works were unfortunately dispersed to the most renowned museums in Europe and America, such as the British Museum, the Louvre, the Hermitage, the Antikensammlung in Munich and the Metropolitan Museum. The heart of this extraordinary adventure today is the Jatta Museum , an enchanting place that captures the imagination with its precious collection. Today, famous throughout the world for its extraordinary archaeological wealth , Ruvo di Puglia is ready to welcome visitors in the heart of the Alta Murgia Park. It is worth visiting to admire up close the many figures that populate the richly decorated portal, grotesque figures, the lions and griffins that populate the façade and the internal capitals or the decorations of the large rose window at the top. If you are lucky enough to visit the monument on the day of the summer solstice, at sunset you can witness the spectacle of the projection of the sun's rays that, right through the large rose window on the façade, are projected to illuminate the center of the glass and alabaster Cross located in the middle of the apse . It is a spectacle for the eyes but also satisfied is the hearing if you have the patience to attend the concomitant band concert that is organized on the occasion of the Music Festival. But the perception of its beauty remains satisfied at any time of the year!   Encounter with history: the hypogeum of the Cathedral and the Grotto of San Cleto Enter the Cathedral and ask to visit the basement. (Cost 2 euros) The city has ancient origins, dating back to prehistoric times, but it is the wealth of its archaeological finds, the hypogeum of the Cathedral and the cave of San Cleto (a Roman-era cistern with an adjoining thermal complex ) that tell us excellent stories of its thousand-year history. These are two connected structures, both dating back to the 1st century AD; their visit is an encounter with the remote past of the city and its traditions that hand down the spread of the Christian cult. It was St. Peter , returning to Rome from one of his trips to the Holy Land, who met San Cleto, the first bishop of Ruvo who later became the third Pope. Between history and legend, it is a beautiful visit underground to discover the surviving traces of ancient settlements. .   Reservations are preferred, with an offer. Ruvo is one of the most iconic places of Holy Week in Puglia. If you have never seen them, you cannot miss the traditional practices of popular piety that still find expression here in the processional parades on Passion Friday and Holy Thursday, Friday and Saturday . They are the processions of Maria SS. Desolata, of the “Eight Saints” , of the Holy Mysteries and of the “Pietà”. They begin at 2.30 in the morning, from the Church of San Rocco. From here the night procession of the “ Eight Saints” starts, eight figures, in Lecce papier-mâché (one of the largest ever!) which represent the Transport of Christ to the Sepulchre : it is carried on the shoulders through the streets of the city by the bearers of the Confraternity of San Rocco , Until the end of the Holy Week Rites, on Easter morning the Procession of the Risen Christ moves from the Church of San Domenico , organized by the Confraternity of the Sorrowful Purification and followed by joyful children waving flags. • Exploring the cities of Gal Terre di Murgia with a Three Day Itinerary

Between Nature, history and culture that blend together in a unique journey in the heart of Puglia. Welcome to the fascinating Terre di Murgia , a pleasant discovery in the beautiful Puglia region, where the rocky landscape blends with the rich history and vibrant culture of its municipalities. Among the towns that are part of the "Gal Terre di Murgia" Altamura, Sammichele di Bari, Toritto , Cassano delle Murge, Santeramo in Colle and Bitetto the visitor is overwhelmed by the wild beauty of this land and its authentic traditions. Some of these locations that are also part of the "Alta Murgia National Park" have already been explored and described by me in depth, and luckily for you, I have included detailed guides for each of them (click on the name of the town). In this article I suggest you an itinerary of a few days that I experienced thanks to a project of Gal Terre di Murgia that created an area brand "Terre di Murgia - Club di Prodotto" as a strategic tool to enhance the image of the territory in its growth complex. The invitation is to repeat by choosing some of the proposed activities that you liked the most. In my column "A misura di Manu" I propose ideas, experiences and itineraries, but also things to do if you come to these parts whether you are a foreign visitor or a tourist at home. In the article (next to each individual experience) are indicated all the references to book tickets or excursions or guided tours in the area. For those looking for a break from the usual seaside ( which is just a stone's throw away and can always be enjoyed by extending your stay by a few days ) the Terre di Murgia offer a unique experience, ideal for lovers of sport and nature . This territory is crossed by some of the six routes of the Cammino Materano including stage no. 3 Cassano delle Murge - Santeramo in Colle of 22.5 km and the Bitetto Cassano delle Murge of 25 km which is stage no. 2 and stage no. 4 the via Peuceta Santeramo in Colle Altamura where you must venture, an ancient path that crosses these suggestive landscapes, offering you views of the rolling hills and the lush nature that dot the countryside. But it is not only nature that captures attention. Each city of the GAL Terre di Murgia is steeped in history, from the ancient walls of High Wall to the spiritual Bitetto with the visit to the Sanctuary of Blessed Giacomo which literally won me over also thanks to the resourcefulness of its friars who have created in recent years a micro brewery dedicated to Blessed "Jacobus. Brotherhood and Sharing with a taste of Beer " . Birrificio Jacobus Where? In the spaces where Blessed Giacomo worked as a cook right in Bitetto. The initiative is promoted by the Boccale Solidale Association, the result of the collaboration between the Friars Minor of the Convent , the lay people of the Secular Franciscan Order and the members of the Figli in Paradiso Association. Its main objective is to promote solidarity and socially useful activities, such as the integration of people with disabilities and the recovery of historical and artistic assets. You can't miss it and you can't miss tasting its beer. And when it's time to relax and refuel, there's no shortage of culinary delights to savor. I've tried several and have compiled my very own favorite list for you. Enjoy the authentic flavours of Apulian cuisine, from freshly baked focaccia to local cheeses, accompanied by a good glass of Primitivo wine such as that of Tenute Viglione which in Santeramo in Colle since 1937 have produced a collection of wines from Blend to Prestige and finally Riserva. The choice of where to sleep is subjective, but if you are staying a few days or just one night, perhaps Altamura could be the easiest choice, its nightlife is always vibrant and walking there on the weekend is really pleasant. We stayed at the BB San Francesco, a corner of paradise in the heart of Altamura, with welcoming rooms equipped with every type of comfort to satisfy all the needs of the guests. Day 1: Altamura, Toritto, Bitetto Start your journey in the enchanting Altamura , famous for its delicious DOP bread but also known by the name of Leonessa di Puglia : in her story an incredible tale of resistance and tenacity. ---> Special on Altamura <----- The photos are from Antico Forno Santa Caterina which has been baking bread and focaccia at all hours of the day since 1937. In recent times it has become Glamour on a global level and among the various delicacies I invite you to taste a " Must have " the focaccia with eggplant parmigiana . If you book a table you can do the focaccia tasting inside the bakery. In Altamura it is nice to walk in the company of a tourist guide admiring its medieval streets and retracing its history before enjoying a traditional Murgia lunch such as at the Cheese bar Mubhar - artisanal cheeses and wines (click to read my review ) and get lost among the true flavours of the Apulian cuisine of this land, a genuine cuisine, poor but tasty. ( To book ) For coffee and dessert I recommend you move to Toritto . (20 minutes by car). Master pastry chef Vito, from Pasticceria Savoia loves to define his kingdom, " as a place that does not want to be a point of arrival but of departure" . You are in the kingdom of the Toritto almond. Delicious on its own or as the protagonist in the creations of the most refined pastry (try all the almond paste sweets of Savoy) the Toritto almond is a true culinary jewel to be tasted and appreciated with every bite. With great nutritional power, it captures the essence of the Murgia Barese . Already a Slow Food presidium, it comes from the ancient local cultivars such as "Antonio Devito", "Genco" and "Filippo Cea", handed down by generations of Toritto families. The most renowned, as well as the most widespread, is the native cultivar "Filippo Cea", famous for the sweetness of its seed, usually there are always two inside. Immediately after, if you are not tired, you can reach the nearby Bitetto (15 minutes by car). As anticipated in Bitetto I discovered the story of Blessed Giacomo and the solidarity brewery dedicated to him. (All the details here) The visit is unmissable as is the visit to the museum of work that will immerse you in the ancient agricultural customs of the region and to the attached brewery where you can taste beer and talk with the friars about the process used to prepare the beer that today produces about 600 bottles a month. (Brewery Details) The Convent founded in 1432, for about two centuries was inhabited by the Observant Friars Minor and ceded in 1625 to the Reformed Friars Minor. Today it presents itself as a notable architectural complex consisting of: the beautiful seventeenth-century church; the cloister with its frescoes; the convent which underwent significant renovations from 1400 to 1800; a large green park within which there is the Via Crucis, the grotto of the Madonna, the chapel of ecstasy and the waterfall with the statue of St. Francis. After a couple of hours in Bitetto, you can return to Altamura and relax in your hotel and get ready for dinner. Going out on foot is one of the nicest things to do in the historic center of this city. We had dinner at a restaurant "Tre Archi" a corner of Murgia where refinement embraces authenticity Every detail is taken care of with the typical mastery of those who know the value of small gestures. -- > ( click to read my review ) <- - Day 2: A stage of the Cammino Matera with Cassano delle Murge or Santeramo in Colle and a visit to the Grotta del Cristo Acquire the credentials of the Cammino Materano before coming to Puglia. Set your alarm for early morning, put on comfortable shoes and venture into one of the stages of this wonderful Cammino Matera that crosses both the municipalities of Cassano delle Murge and Santeramo in Colle ----> Special Santeramo in Colle <----- All routes are approximately 22 to 25 km per stage - you can choose the three stages that pass through this area. The Peuceta route 3rd STAGE (all the details here) whose stage leader is Paolo Ravano , is the most renowned, at the end of which you can stop for refreshments in a corner of paradise: the Agriturismo Amicizia (if you are closer to Cassano) I assure you one of the most beautiful rural experiences I have had at least so far in Puglia, here is my review. Everything at km 0. Also unmissable during this stretch of the Camino towards Cassano is a visit to the Grotta di Cristo, almost unknown, we visited it because Pierino from Agriturismo Amicizia is the keeper of the keys. (Call him to book a visit) Pierino is also the organizer of the mega beer festival that has been taking place for years in Cassano delle Murge A valid alternative for refreshment during the walk is Masseria Galietti (if you are closer to Santeramo in Colle) surrounded by a large pine forest of about 20 hectares Inside the pine forest there is the tree of thoughts, where it is possible for walkers to enclose their thoughts and emotions inside small suspended bottles. The walker must do nothing but write what he wants on one of the little notes placed in a glass container found on a specially prepared table, and insert it into one of the many little bottles, in this way he will have left a sign of his passage. Contacts Masseria Galietti info@giaccheverdisanteramo.it +39 338 837 6461 3 km from Santeramo In the evening or late afternoon, return to Altamura for a well-deserved rest and dinner in one of the restaurants in the historic center or sip a cicchetto di Padre Peppe . It is a typical Apulian liqueur based on walnuts, produced since 1832 according to the ancient secret recipe formulated in the convent by the Capuchin friar Giuseppe Ronchi. Day 3. Sannicandro and Gravina (outside the Gal but close to Altamura) You can conclude your journey by visiting the Sannicandro Castle, which has undergone a major restoration project that tells the thousand-year history of the region and which has now been transformed into a grand cultural container available to the community of San Teremona. Finally, immerse yourself in the magical atmosphere of Gravina. It is not part of the Gal Terre di Murgia, with its archaeological area on which stands the wonderful Ponte Acquedotto. It is too close to Altamura not to see it for all the details I leave you the --- ->Special Gravina <---- This itinerary will take you on a journey through centuries of history, culture and spirituality, offering you an authentic and unforgettable experience in the cities of Gal Terre di Murgia. Have a nice trip!

  • 10 Things to Do in Altamura

Also known by the name of Lioness of Puglia , Altamura has in its history an incredible tale of resistance and tenacity The fame of its bread, the celebrated " Pane di Altamura DOP" is known to all, but nothing could have prepared me for the deliciousness of that crunchy treasure chest of tradition and its irresistible aromas when it is freshly baked. The process to obtain UNESCO recognition for Altamura bread as a world heritage site has officially begun. This bread, revered as the emblem of the Murgia city , could soon earn a place on the prestigious world list of cultural treasures to be preserved. My adventure in this city began almost by chance, walking through the streets of the historic center in search of artisan bakeries , guided by the irresistible aromas of freshly baked bread. And while I imagined enjoying a slice of authentic Apulian food , heart-shaped, I already knew that Altamura would leave an indelible mark on my heart as a curious traveler. But bread in Altamura is not the only fruit of a tradition that dates back to the 1st century BC! There is also "Ciccillo". An adult male, about thirty years old. In Altamura, his discovery took place in the karst cavity of Lamalunga in the autumn of 1993, when in a natural apse three speleologists found a 150,000-year- old skeleton of Homo neanderthalensis . "Ciccillo", a nickname that resonates through the streets of Altamura like a secret shared between friends and acquaintances . Behind this affectionate name lies the figure of a special person , an individual who embodies the authentic soul of Altamura. "Ciccillo" could be the one who passionately runs the family bakery, carrying on the centuries-old tradition of the famous Altamura Bread. Or perhaps, "Ciccillo" is that picturesque character who animates the squares during local festivities, involving the community with his festive spirit and his ability to involve adults and children in traditional dances. Regardless of the role that "Ciccillo" may play in the life of Altamura, his name is synonymous with authenticity and a connection to the roots. He is the guardian of traditions, the " intermediary between past and present" , the witness of a story that is revealed through daily gestures and moments of conviviality. At the moment, it is the best preserved archaic specimen. And the most desired, because it is not yet possible to extract it from the calcite and coralloid formations that surround it. They call it the Lioness of Puglia. The origin of the nickname dates back to the 18th century. This city similar to France, experienced an important revolution inspired by the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity . In February 1799 , upon hearing the news of the king's escape to Palermo, the Altamurans transformed the city from Bourbon to republican, planting the tree of liberty in Piazza Duomo (no longer visible today) . The Bourbon army intervened led by Cardinal Ruffo, but the Altamurans, barricading themselves and preparing ammunition, resisted. The clash of May 9, 1799 showed the mettle of the minority of the Altamuran forces who, having run out of ammunition, began to shoot coins to resist longer. Founded in the 13th century by Frederick II (to whom we owe the cathedral that stands in the centre of the city, Santa Maria dell'Assunta). We are just over 40 km from Bari and 19 km from Matera , almost on the border between Puglia and Basilicata. Here's how to reach Altamura comfortably with the main means of transport available. The city of Altamura is part of the Alta Murgia Park which in 2021 submitted its candidacy to obtain the prestigious title of UNESCO Geopark. My own adventure, in writing this article, discovering the concept of Geopark has been a journey of knowledge, an experience that has helped expand my information on the territory in ways I did not imagine. What is the Geopark? It is a protected area characterized by a geology of international importance, within which sustainable development is promoted . This initiative embraces responsible tourism, environmental conservation, education and research, focusing not only on geology, but also on biodiversity, flora and fauna present in the area . The aim is to enhance the geological heritage of these lands at a global level. A look at the megalithic walls To date, no systematic investigations have been conducted on the megalithic walls of the city of Altamura, so called because of their grandeur and height, so much so that they gave their name to the town. The only official document is due to the archaeologist Francesco Maria Ponzetti who, towards the middle of the 20th century, conducted an excavation campaign along the existing walls. Testimony to the type of fortification of the classical age (5th-4th century BC) , also widespread in other centers of Peucezia, the megalithic walls of Altamura appear as a double circuit: an internal wall, smaller, which enclosed the acropolis, with a development of about 1500 meters, and an external one , larger, which extended for 3600 meters. To be understood as a work made necessary by the particular situation in which the indigenous people of all Peucezia found themselves faced with the expansionist aims of Taranto and the nearby Lucanian and Samnite centers, the megalithic walls are of great importance from a civil and military point of view. The construction technique used involved the use of large blocks (the term "megalithic" derives, in fact, from the Greek: mega, large, and lithos, stone), not rough-hewn, arranged to fit together, then settled dry. The walls were 5.5 metres wide and over 4 metres high. All the information Pro Loco Altamura Visit to the Private Bread Museum It is actually a private museum. This Capuchin friar retired to Puglia, from Naples, with the desire to discover in the Murgia , in its woods, in its meadows, in its waters and in its rocks, a remedy that could soothe or heal the annoyances and infirmities that daily life brings with it. Padre Peppe is made with the fresh green walnuts that can now be seen on the trees. The original recipe tells you to collect 13 green walnuts for each liter of alcohol, between June 13 (St. Anthony) and June 25 (St. John), to put them to macerate in a hermetically sealed container with 13 cloves , 1 nutmeg and 3 grams of cinnamon, and every now and then shake everything and leave to rest in a cool, dark place. It has 42 degrees of alcohol. and in addition to its recognized digestive properties, it is also an excellent tonic. Almost all the families of Altamura have passed down the recipe, each with its own secret. The one who realized that this elixir was something more than a natural medicine was the brother of Friar Giuseppe, Nicola Ronchi, who used the recipe to produce and serve the walnut elixir in his ancient café. The one who pushed the liqueur outside the city walls was Luigi Striccoli , great-grandfather of the current owners, who, by marrying an adopted daughter of Ronchi, inherited the café and the small annexed factory.

  • Food in Monopoli. Where to eat in Monopoli?

There are always so many of you who ask me where to dine well in this city while paying attention to the price. I point out my personal list to try if you come to these parts. Over the years you have all become crazy about the city of Monopoli.. Without a shadow of a doubt, this city offers more than one reason to stay. For its historic center, for its climate, for its crystal clear coves, but also for its cuisine. Poor cuisine the result of centuries-old traditions and quality raw materials that today are charged dearly, unfortunately. Whether the menu is seafood or land, what proves to be successful is the ability to enhance the flavors without covering them, enticing the diner with original proposals, delicate " as if " homemade " as it used to be. " Adriatic fish, seafood. urchins and mussels, meat and lots of cultivated or wild vegetables . Recipes from the Apulian culinary tradition that populate the menus of cooks and chefs in osterias, restaurants and trattorias. Needless to say, the " seafood" we all like so much, especially if fresh, are expensive and drives up the price. So unless you have a burning desire, I suggest you buy seafood from your local fishmonger and include it on your Sunday lunch menu at home. La Locanda sul porto   - Via Cristoforo Colombo, 10/11 - In my opinion this is one of the best seafood restaurants in Monopoli. Excellent value for money. Regional fish and typical Italian dishes, in a cozy inn with outdoor tables and a view of the harbor. The chef in this restaurant, cooks fish with great delicacy, juxtaposing more classic flavors with custom seasonings, and when quality meets flair, memorable dishes are born. High end. The appetizer is fabulous. The first courses very tasty. Here I succumbed to the seafood. Trattoria da Zi Ottavio When you call to make a reservation, ask for Francesca right away and say I suggest you to come here. A typical trattoria in the historic center. " Revisited typical dishes of Apulian and Monopoli cuisine , pizzeria and extensive wine list, with over 300 labels from around the world. Order in advance "l a parmigiana di mare " excellent meatballs with sauce Via Barbacana, 77 +39 080 937 6447 Trattoria Il Brigante Among the alleys of the old town, it is a cozy place, simple but at the same time nice. The smells come through but the food is really good. There is also a Gluten Free proposal. I usually stop at the appetizers: the rawfood is excellent, I remember eating some large raw shrimps I think Spanish, they were stunning. Also delicious are hot appetizers cooked with local dressing. The entrees are a real masterpiece. Via Cavaliere, 17 333 542 2888 Trattoria San Domenico It is my parents' favorite place which means there is really good food and the owner of the place, Rocco, is a great restaurateur. Imagine a combination of tasty seafood meals and friendly staff-that's exactly what you find at this place. Even if you think you've eaten a lot, don't pass up dessert after tasting the appetizers and calamarata. The roasted octopus served on a bed of creamed purple potatoes is delicious. What you can do after your meal is a nice walk overlooking the City Palace. Via S. Domenico, 3/5 080 937 1992 Il Punto Cardinale - Trattoria al Borgo Since the venue changed locations, but especially since I am always on the road, I overlooked them. But Antonella and Sergio always hold a special place in my heart. The atmosphere is familiar, it is a trattoria in which enjoy a meal without hurrying. Many of the products are Slow Food presidia , they offer Mediterranean and Apulian cuisine. The spaghettone with hanging queen tomato, burrata and oregano or the fritters but also the artichokes, such as donkey chop and meatballs with sauce are worth a taste. Of course, the entire menu is subject to daily availability, to follow the principle of freshness of raw materials Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, 39 346 246 6980 Condominio 60 A condominium of a historic building used as a classy restaurant, Place ,very cozy and quality cuisine. Despite being in the heart of the historic center it manages to provide privacy at the tables. Da Marcella, sapori mediterranei A pizza restaurant outside the old town but close to the sea, with easy parking. I walk there living in the area. I discovered it by accident. A friend had invited me for dinner on a boat in Monopoli harbor, and this restaurant was doing takeout service . A fabulous takeaway not only because of the goodness of the food but also because of the quality of the service: table cloths, clay plates and cutlery that come to take back dirty at the end of the meal. I found it brilliant. The fried shrimp and fried seafood in general were mind-boggling. Via Giuseppe Ungaretti, 5 080 404 7141 La Rosa dei venti It is the favorite restaurant of my uncle Giorgio, originally from Varese but in love with Puglia. Every time he comes to Monopoli with his wife, uncles and the whole family tree, he makes a date with us at this trattoria. The place is very familiar. The dishes are simple and plated like at home. But the fish and the quality of all the courses is really excellent. The pizzas are also very good Via Marina del Mondo - ang. Via Ippolito Nievo, Zona Pantano . +39 080.9301304 Lido Bianco Historic seaside restaurant. The story of a family that has been cooking since 1947 The location is beautiful, by the sea, especially intimate the part hollowed out in the rock, overlooking the sea. Classic seafood menu that combines tradition and innovation. Interesting is the possibility to choose the fish at the moment, very fresh fish that melts in your mouth and smells of the sea. For an aperitif, a dedicated menu is available outside in the lounge cocktail bar when the sun peeps through. Carlo V.   The restaurant is located in the heart of Monopoli's historic center, directly on the Santa Maria waterfront, near one of the historic cannons that adorn the city's ancient walls. Overlooking the harbor arm, the venue is a casual restaurant and cocktail bar, also perfect for a leisurely breakfast in the morning. 080 403 3110 Komera, cucina nostra Excellent food. Fine trattoria restaurant with attention not only to the raw material but also to the service. The restaurant is very quaint, you eat on the patio of a historic building in which the dining room has been converted. It is a sophisticated setting that nevertheless preserves the simplicity and goodness of typical Apulian cuisine. Go there. Via Barbacana, 79, 080 332 3815 La Dolce Vita Typical Apulian cuisine with wide selection from fish to meat to pizza. This restaurant is famous for COCCIO and I recommend going there specifically for this dish. An earthenware bowl filled with linquine with fish sauce and seafood (mussels clams and scampi). "The terrine" is sealed by a bread pizza, lid-like. The pizza is cut revealing the goodness inside as well as the irresistible smell of sauce. The pizza is served as a base for pasta. One crock is very large can eat 3 people. Largo Giuseppe Garibaldi, 29 080 410 7816 Of good, familiar and cozy places to eat in Monopoli there are many. It is said that on the night of Jan. 11, 1691, two priests, Don Giuseppe Gaetano Lanera and Don Giosafat Pinto, prayed incessantly under the altar of Madonna degli Angeli placed in the Church of St. Francesco di Assisi so that, through her intercession, the people of Castellana would be cured of the plague . Since that date, no other deaths have been recorded. Since then Castellana Grotte dedicates to its Patron Saint, " Le Fanóve ," a spectacular event, in which religious devotion and popular tradition come together to re-enact the extraordinary event that on the night of Jan. 1 1 each year illuminates and warms the City of Caves . Tour among the balconies of the historic center (Foto, fonte Web) In the historic center of Polignano, it is possible to stroll while looking at the sea, thanks to Polignano's spectacular balconies: all the streets of the historic center overlook loggias overlooking the sea. The tuor starts from the central square, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele or Piazza San Benedetto. The most famous balcony in Polignano is the one overlooking Lama Monachile. My favorite is this one in photo Balconata Terrazza Santo Stefano, This walk is ideal if you want to visit Polignano on foot. Taking a photo in Lama Monachile (Foto, fonte Web) The Lama Monachile is one of the most popular places in Polignano a Mare. The most photographed cliff on social media. It is formed by two rock walls overhanging the sea with a small inlet in the middle. According to tradition it would seem that the term "monachile" comes from the fact that there were once numerous monk seals here. Now world famous, it hosts the world's most famous diving championship the Red Bull Cliff Diving Singing VOLARE under the statue of Domenico Modugno (Foto, fonte Web) Domenico Modugno is considered the father of Italian singer-songwriters and as a performing author is among the greatest in Europe. He was born on January 9, 1928, in Polignano a Mare, The statue dedicated to this singer was created by Argentine sculptor Hermann Mejer, which depicts him with his arms wide open as if to embrace his hometown. Time after time it has become a pilgrimage destination for those who wish to take a souvenir photo with their arms outstretched like him, singing his famous song "Volare". The statue has been placed so that his back is not to the sea or the town Seeing an exhibition at the Pino Pascali Foundation (Foto, fonte Web) The Fondazione Pino Pascali is located in Polignano a Mare and is the only museum dedicated to Contemporary Art in Puglia . I recommend you keep the museum's website handy so you don't miss some unique exhibitions. Meanwhile, if you want to visit it inside you will find some works by Pino Pascali, including the wonderful "bristle worms." Boat tours among sea caves One thing to do in Polignano a Mare is definitely a tour of the sea caves . The whole coastline is full of them and some of them are really characteristic and enchanting. This is the case of Grotta Ardito, or the Blue Grotto or the Grotta delle monache or the enchanting Grotta Palazzese from which the restaurant of the same name takes its name, and the romantic Grotta dei Fidanzati , which can only be reached by swimming. Booking a boat tour in Polignano a mare is very easy I suggest some of them as DORINO ask for Nicola or Escursioni Sofia . Admiring Peppino Campanella's workshop, overlooking the cliff overlooking the sea Glass objects are real sculptures, come to life in this atelier-workshop located in an old oil mill. He himself calls his workshop a "wunderkammer," a chamber of wonders. I dream of furnishing my home with one of his desk lamps. Peppino welcomes everyone to his workshop. equipped with a spectacular terrace overlooking the sea. O ne of Polignano a Mare's most striking landscapes. This terrace is the stage for private events especially during the summer , such as the highly anticipated and exclusive post-festival events of "Il Libro Possibile ." This terrace turns on those days into a magical place where your dreams can come true and life-changing encounters can happen, but only if you are on the Guest List or you "grab" the invitation to enter! Drinking the special coffee Drinking the special coffee is a Must- do. A coffee that was invented in Polignano by Mr. Frost Wizard, Mario Campanella , which then became the typical local drink. Coffee, sugar, lemon zest, cream and amaretto: 5 magical ingredients that give life to a coffee served lukewarm in glass cups. I suggest you go and try it in the very central café in front of the arch of Polignano where precisely it was invented Il Super Mago del Gelo Taking a dive from the cliff of "Il Grottone" (Foto, fonte Web) Favorite place for Polignanesi to go to the sea in summer. The waters are crystal clear. Polignanesi consider it the most beautiful spot in the world for swimming in the sea. However to dive, other current of Polignanesi choose Cala Port'alga , counted among the most striking coves in the area or Cala Paura, ideal for children, with pebbles, located within the characteristic fishermen's port. If you are looking for sand and do not want to give up comfort, I suggest the Spiaggia di San Giovanni (equipped beach with front row seats on the shoreline) or the wild but beautiful Spiaggia di San Vito . Attend at least one of the coolest summer events: THE POSSIBLE BOOK, REDBULL CLIFF DIVING, WONDERFUL MODUGNO Pictured on the trampoline is me. Polignano is also famous because it hosts a stage of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series , international diving competition. The next edition will take place on J uly 1-2, 2023. To give you an idea of what happens on this occasion, take a look at this spectacular dive tuffo del campione Alessandro De Rose IL LIBRO POSSIBILE anything is possible during this week such as crossing famous and celebrated authors on the street that we are usually used to seeing on TV. Visit SAN VITO ABBAZIA and have lunch in a small restaurant by the sea. (Foto, fonte Web) San Vito Abbazia is the main artistic attraction of this small village named after Polignano's patron saint. It is located 3 km from the town of Polignano a Mare, and is known for its quaint little port and the imposing San Vito Abbazia a monastery built on the ruins of a Greek city. After visiting the foot of the Abbey La veranda da Giselda has become an ideal pop destination and restaurant in which to drink good vito rosé accompanied by a fried seafood or spaghetti with seafood. In the heart of the city, the picturesque fishermen's harbor is a captivating spot, where colorful boats named "gozzi" and the authentic atmosphere capture the essence of traditional maritime life. Without a shadow of a doubt Monopoli city in Puglia Region, offers more than one reason to come and spend time here. For its old city,  its weather,  the beaches  with crystal clear water, and the warm welcome atmosphere, and its people. It is easy to reach, from the airport Over the years you have all become crazy about the city of Monopoli. I always get the same question. Can you suggest a place to eat well in Monopoli without spending a fortune? From my column "A portata di Manu," I offer you ideas and itineraries but also things to do if you come to Monopoli even on a day trip, whether you are a foreign visitor or a tourist at home. Follow my suggestions. If you would like to introduce us to your business or simply suggest unique experiences that you would like everyone to know about, write to us at apugliesearoundtheworld@gmail.com We will be happy to visit you HOW TO REACH MONOPOLI By plane, you can land at either Bari or Brindisi airport. Trains are the best means of transport for environmental sustainability. From Bari airport, take the train to the central station, where regional trains to Monopoli depart every 30 minutes. From Brindisi Airport there is a BUS that takes you to Brindisi station , where you can catch a state railway train that stops at all the stations along the Adriatic coast. MONOPOLI O MONOPOLY? In the minds of many travelers, the "City of Monopoly" evokes two fascinating settings: on the one hand, the familiar image of a timeless board game , beloved and played all over the world; on the other, the wonderful reality of a small town nestled among the wonders of southern Italy, in the region of Puglia. In both plays, there is a magnetic atmosphere that links the two experiences together, weaving an intricate web of history and legend. As in the board game, the city of Monopoly has its roots grounded firmly into history, with the majestic ancient walls still standing in the Old Gate area as a testament to a past rich in conquest and trade. However, beyond these historical vestiges, daily life in Monopoli vibrates with a unique energy, animated by lively trade, fishing on the blue sea and traditions rooted in local culture. The city's old walls, still standing and well-preserved, and the watchtowers that line the waterfront are like pages in an open book, ready to reveal the compelling stories of its past. But, just as in the game of Monopoly, financial and strategic skills are challenged , in real life in Monopoli, the city is also animated by the life de of trade, fishermen and local traditions and culture WHAT ARE THE 10 THINGS YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST DO IN MONOPOLi? (Foto Fonte Web) Learn about the history of the Cathedral Basilica of Madonna della Madia. The protector of Monopoli who cames from the sea. Madonna della Madia picture, cames from the sea on a raft landing for the first time in the city on the night of December 16th 1117. An ancient legend said that this Lady cames in a dream to a pious sacristan named Mercury, who three times went to Bishop Romuald to report that the lady was at the door with the timbers needed for the erected Romanesque cathedral. Those beams served for the reconstruction of the cathedral (in the 1700s) the remaining ones displayed inside the church. Three times was chased back by the bishop, who branded him for drunkenness until angels miraculously rang the city bells and people (even the bishop) poured into the harbor and saw raft and icon. The scene is repeated twice a year identically (Aug. 14th at 8:30 p.m. and Dec. 16th at 6 a.m.). Sunrise bathing at Cala Porta Vecchia on September 1st, as a good omen against deseas A favorite place for Monopolitans, who go sunbathing or swimming even in January. Putting one's feet in the seawater on the sunrise of September 1st according to tradition is a good omen for good health during autumn and winter. This tradition is still strong by people from monopoli as much as the "rite of affascino," which every Apulian exorcises in its own way. Cala portavecchia is located in the heart of the old town, This pretty Beach of Porta Vecchia gives people a picturesque setting. Starting from the old town, with a walk of just five minutes you find yourself right next to the 16th-century walls that protected the city. Then continue the walk to the Pentima Spaccata . Sunrise bathing detailes QUI Tour with the Gozzo in the Porto Vecchio The "gozzo" is the traditional boat of Monopoli fishermen, distinguished by the red and blue colors that identify Monopoli's seafaring industry. A symbol of the town , The experience aboard these small boats, guided by local fishermen, allows you to experience local maritime traditions on a sailing that skirts the ancient town walls and some of the most beautiful small beaches in the Monopoli sea. I took my nephews and brother there on the occasion of the event Gozzovigliando Foto Fonte Web ATTEND AN INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITON IN CARLO V CASTEL The C astle was part of the coastal fortification system , wanted by Carlo V in Apulia, The castle has a pentagonal shape, t ypical of 16th-century forts , but it seems to have incorporated a pre-existing cylindrical tower , Roman in shape, which gives a singular relief to the entrance and the facade itself. Throughout the year there are very interesting exhibitions and displays TAKING PART IN THE APPROACH OF MADONNA DELLA MADIA The scene is repeated twice a year identically (on August 14 and December 16) . Very popular and visually striking. It ends with incredibly beautiful fireworks. It is organized by the Madonna della Madia Homeland Festival Committee under the patronage of the City of Monopoli. If you are lucky enough to be able to see the landing from the sea on a gozzo, as I did, it is a very impressive experience. Otherwise from the harbor or from the balconies of the waterfront buildings it is equally stunning Foto Fonte Web ADMIRE THE BEAUTY OF PIAZZA VITTORIO EMANUELE AND ITS UNDERGROUND SHELTERS The main square of the city of Monopoli is Vittorio Emanuele II Square , commonly called " Borgo, " which was created in 1796 thanks to the approval of the King of Naples and was built following the design of architect De Simone. Its approximately 18,000 square meters make it one of the most beautiful and largest squares in Apulia. I recommend you visit BUNKER MUSEUM under the square were recovered air raid shelters where Monopolitans took refuge during World War II Foto Fonte Web Walking south to Santo Stefano and getting lost among the "beaches" The most beautiful weekend walk where you can meet so many people always at the same time every day of the year. From the center of Monopoli to Santo Stefano district, it is possible to walk either by road to the sea or along a natural path on the rocks , interspersed with "sandy beaches" and rocks, steps, natural coves, small beaches that will make you fall in love with Monopoli and that I have the pleasure of doing all year round. In the winter months they are completely deserted and you can really appreciate their beauty. For explorers there is the possibility of discovering the GROTTA SEGRETA where the Pinocchio movie was also filmed SOUVENIR PHOTO IN THE OLD HARBOR Stroll through the historic center until you arrive in the postcard-perfect scenery of the old port. From here you can also admire the Castle of Carlo V. The old harbor is still the city's fishing harbor, a part of the culture of the place. From here you can take a walk along the waterfront until you get to the Bastione Santa Maria recognizable because it has a cannon .visible and which lends itself to photos ATTEND AT LEAST 1 OF THE CITY EVENTS, such as PROSPERO FEST or SUDESTIVAL with TOUR in the PROSPERO RENDELLA LIBRARY. The next edition of the festival will be held in May program QUI The Civic Library is named after Monopoli jurist Prospero Rendella . Thanks to its central location, the Library is easily accessible; in fact, it overlooks Piazza Garibaldi in the heart of Monopoli. The Library defines itself as a new "square of knowledge," a multimedia and multicultural place, intent and attentive to satisfy the needs of a public in constant evolution, just as in rapid and continuous evolution are technologies and social relations. Il Sudestival is a festival unlike any other: audience and protagonists meet, discuss, confront each other and share emotions. For more than 20 years, Prof. Michele Suma has been an ambassador of niche cinema throughout Puglia. The cinema that speaks to you by bringing directors and actors to town TAKE A TOUR OF THE PLACES IN THE TV SERIES THE INVESTIGATIONS OF COMMISSIONER LOLITA LOBOSCO The Tour dedicated to the places seen in the TV drama The Investigations of Lolita Lobosco, inspired by the books by Apulian Gabriella Genisi, starts from the historic Piazza Palmieri and the Palmieri Palace of the same name, where was setted the police headquarters in the drama, broadcasted on Rai networks. The majestic Palazzo Palmieri located in the historic center of Monopoli "frames" Piazza Palmieri, The Palmieri family was one of the most powerful and influential families in Monopoli, and the prestigious palace is one of the many properties and buildings the family held at the time. Currently, in execution of the will, the building belongs to I.P.R.A.B. (Istituzione Pubbliche di Assistenza e Beneficenza) as far as bare ownership is concerned, while the Bishop's Curia holds the usufruct. From Palmieri Square, skirting the church of St. Theresa, we come to the church of SS. Peter and Paul. The present building is supposed to date from the 18th century, although the facade is 16th-century. I walk there living in the area. I discovered it by accident. A friend had invited me for dinner on a boat in Monopoli harbor , and this restaurant was doing take away service. It was a fabulous takeaway not only because of the goodness of the food but also because of the quality of the service: tablecloths, clay plates, and cutlery that come back dirty at the end of the meal. At sunset time it becomes magical. They remove the umbrellas and place tables for dinner, with candles and floral decorations, and you can dine with your feet on the Sand. This ghost is the inspiration for Domenico Modugno's song , Il vecchio Frack from 1955. Modugno's mother was from Conversano and the story of this nobleman was told to him by his mother. This story impressed him so much to dedicate the successful lyrics to him. This ghost is said to be the one of Prince Raimondo Lanza di Trabia who fell from the window of the Hotel Eden in Rome the year before, dressed in frack, and who had lived in the Conversano residence which Modugno's mother used to tell scary stories. The ghost according to legend appears every night at midnight dressed in medieval clothes wandering the halls of the castle. Foto fonte web The abbess and the history of the "Porta dei 100 occhi" . Il 13 dicembre 2014 Has been displayed in the Pinacoteca. Today, however, it is located in the Archaeological Museum , in the Monastery of St. Benedict, from where it continues to watch museum visitors with its judging eyes. Legend said that this door is one of the symbols of the opposition of " power " to the love of two young lovers. In the past it was one of the doors of the cloistered Monastery of St. Benedict in Conversano (now home to the civic museum). It seems that what inspired the author was the story of the young Dorotea Acquaviva of Aragon , who in the monastery of San Benedetto was forced to take vows in the late 1600s, and Rodolfo Carafa , the brother of the Duke of Noja. At the time, the power of the Church was unchallengeable even by sovereigns, and the election of the abbess became a kind of passing of the scepter from one nun of the family to another, conferring power on the family . So when the county of Conversano was entrusted to the Acquaviva family in 1400, Dorothea was the destined. But she was in love with Rodolfo whose family, by the way, was a rival of the Acquaviva family, the two fled to Venice, where in great secrecy they married and even had a son, but Rodolfo died in an honor duel and Dorotea found herself alone and with nothing. She was forced to return home to her family. Unfortunately, the woman belonged to the monastery, so she was taken back to the abbess who subjected her to years of exemplary punishment , throwing her into a cell locked by a door with several holes with the inscription " Potest Capere Capiat" - who wants to understand understand" BUT WHAT ARE THESE 10 MUST-DO THINGS IN CONVERSANO? Despite the 1911 fire that destroyed much of the artwork, the cathedral still preserves a large 15th-century fresco of the Pisan school, a wooden Crucifix, and the icon of Our Lady of the Fountain, patron saint of Conversano-a luminous Renaissance panel depicting the Risen Christ. In Apulian Romanesque style, the cathedral has a façade with a gabled with three portals crowned by a 15th-century rose window. VISIT CHURCH AND CONVENT OF SAINTS MEDICI COSMA AND DAMIANO: TRIUMPH OF NEAPOLITAN BAROQUE Remarkable is the contrast between the simplicity of the exterior facades and the sumptuous spectacle inside the church, an authentic triumph of Neapolitan Baroque. The entire complex is located in the heart of Conversano, the church was already built in 1636 at the behest of Giangirolamo II di Acquaviva il Guercio delle Puglie and his consort Isabella Filomarino, who commissioned the renovation of the church and adjoining convent initially dedicated to St. Matthew then named after the medical saints Cosmas and Damian, to whom the counts were particularly devoted, having received a grace ( the healing of their son Cosmo). WHERE TO GO FOR DINNER IN LECCE? HEART OF THE NIGHTLIFE Lecce is a city of a thousand faces . Its Baroque nature, artistic soul and cultural treasures are joined by the beating heart of a youthful city that also keeps you entertained. The deputed place for nightlife is the historic center that runs from Porta San Biagio to the Piazzetta di Santa Chiara . Every place is ideal for a drink or to make new friends, among the bars that particularly impressed me I would like to point out some excellent cocktails at QUANTO BASTA or ALVENTUNO (not just a bar but a real experience) or FLOAT where you can accompany the excellent cocktails with delicious appetizers. Among the restaurants where I suggest you go for dinner (for all price ranges) you can make reservations at La Scarpetta this restaurant particularly appealed to me and I was there once for a business lunch that I really remember with pleasure. We ate Apulian cuisine, plentiful in a really very cozy environment. The thing that had struck me about this place is that if you want to make a surprise, you can rent the whole place just for an important event or appointment. I ate for lunch in addition to the appetizers (super plentiful) a pacchero with snapper ragout that I still haven't forgotten. Vico del Gusto the welcome is starred restaurant but the dishes are not nouvelle couisine so when you get up from the table you are satisfied. It is located in the center of Lecce. near the basilica of santa Chiara. You eat divinely, especially fish. The attention to detail immediately strikes you, the setting is intimate and discreet. 400 gradi pizzeria Good pizza: white, margherita base, with fior di latte. La cucina di Mamma Elvira really makes you feel at home. Here the local cuisine is presented in a contemporary way. You can eat a ciceri e tria or a pastasciutta or octopus served really with “great class” but with trattoria-like portions. Doppio Zero Elegant venue with vaulted ceilings and wooden elements, where appetizers and homemade dishes are prepared. the mise en plate is original especially if you take friselle Vineria Popolare for a good aperitif of bruschetta and bubbles great hangout with friends Helena Wine Boutique da provare almeno una volta. E' un Wine bar molto molto GLAM con cucina gourmet, per definirlo l'aggettivo più indicato che mi viene in mente è che si tratta di un un locale davvero raffinato. Una esperienza favolosa. Palazzo BN if you have never been there you absolutely must go. It was a bank now a restaurant, bar and suite in the heart of Lecce. I have been there on more than one occasion for both lunch and dinner. There are two restaurants and two lounge bars (the aperitif on the terrace is very interesting) in which to eat or have a drink. They are all within easy reach, just go down or up a few floors. I met patron Renè De Picciotto during one of the events organized at the venue. Spiriti Gourmet pizzeria in the center of town a stone's throw from the municipal villa, which has a good pizzaiolo like Angelo D'Amico offering great-tasting pizzas as well as gourmet pizzas presented in wedges. Good to be followed on a taste trail to get the right experience. Paladini pizzeria off the downtown routes, we are in the suburbs, where Marco Paladini offers a varied range of doughs from classic to whole wheat spelt, buckwheat, hemp sativa. La Bocca Bistrot born from the bet of two Milanese partners. Located just past Porta S. Biagio, it offers the gourmet but substantial cuisine of Gabriele Piga, a chef of Sardinian origin, a student of Sergio Mei, and you can recognize the school from the technical perfection of the dishes. They say of themselves that their Spaghetti al pomodoro is unbeatable. Can you say otherwise? DUO actually I haven't been here yet but my friend told me it is really worth it and I hope to go there soon. It is a luxurious restaurant designed by “rockin'” chef Fabiano Viva. A Salento VIP who loves good food and the craftsmanship of dishes, he has been able to divinely reinterpret Apulian food while remaining anchored in his local roots by counting Altamura bread and Coratina extra virgin olive oil among his favorite dishes. 3 rane ristoro Small venue for a small menu: 4 dishes for each course, 3 ingredients for the name of each dish, a page for (natural) wines from just two regions, Puglia (where the chef lives) and Piedmont (where he was born instead) Chef Maurizio Raselli, has opened his little gem , a venue of just 15 covers in Lecce's historic center.

The Cathedral of Andria holds the precious relic of the Sacred Thorn of the Crown of Our Lord Jesus Christ , The relic is kept in the Chapel of the Sacred Thorn, built in 1910, and is exposed to the 'adoration of the faithful every last Friday of the month.   From the Chapel of the Holy Thorn  there is access to the Crypt or Church of St. Peter,  inside which, at the entrance, are the Swabian tombs of Jolanda of Brienne  and Isabella of England , consorts of  Frederick II of Swabia . Adjacent to the cathedral stands the Bishop's Palace , which houses the Diocesan Museum, where works from the city's other churches are displayed. Among the main works housed in the museum is an icon of the Madonna and Child , characterized by Byzantine influences, considered one of the most significant in Apulia For guided tours, contact the Uffici della Chiesa Cattedrale - 351 706 5098 - sacrestia.cattedralediandria@gmail.com SANCTUARY OF THE MADONNA DEI MIRACOLI (3km)   The Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles  (patron saint of the city along with St. Richard ) has been a fundamental reference of religiosity for the city of Andria in St. Pius X Square since March 10, 1576  when the fresco of the Madonna. with Child , believed to be miraculous, was discovered, crowned by twelve stars (representing the twelve apostles),  on the right the sun (representing Christ) and on the left the moon  (representing the Virgin herself). The interior of the Shrine has three levels with three Churches. The Shrine borders the blade called Santa Margherita  and the 18th-century Benedictine Monastery (now the headquarters of the BAT Province and the Agricultural Technical Institute): these three architectural and natural monumental complexes, together taken, undoubtedly constitute “ the most important cultural asset that the city of Andria possesses after the Castel del Monte  ” for its significant aspects of naturalistic, archaeological, for the testimony of rock civilizations peculiar to the karst terrain, for the geological aspect and the artistic-architectural aspect of the Basilica and the former Convent. You can find it in all butcher shops in Andria.   But  it is its preparation typical of the Alta Murgia that makes it unique. "It is a process handed down from generation to generation but with some secrets still kept hidden , ” What is certain, however, are the ingredients: the horse diaphragm. which is seasoned with salt and wild fennel and then left to rest, for three or four days, in a clay container. Taking care, however, to change it when the meat begins to release water. The next stage is the most interesting: smoking, which lasts two hours with the meat hung on iron skewers.” If you want to go for sure, I suggest Macelleria Giannelli e Tedesco PARTICIPATE IN THE NIGHT PROCESSION OF THE MADONNA OF MIRACLESI It is usually held in the summer, on the last Saturday in August.
