  • Sinterklaas Festival Amsterdam 2025: The magical connection between St. Nicholas of Bari and Amsterdam's patron saint

From the Adriatic Sea to the canals of Holland: discover how Puglia and Amsterdam celebrate the same saint in two different ways, combining faith, folklore, and Christmas sweets. There's a common thread connecting the blue sea of Bari to the shimmering gray of Amsterdam's canals. It's called Saint Nicholas —or, to use the Dutch term, Sinterklaas —and every year he transforms two distant cities into one great celebration of tradition, culture, and winter magic. Sinterklaas Festival 2025 in Amsterdam , scheduled for Sunday, November 16, 2025 , is one of the most anticipated events of the year in the Netherlands: a spectacular parade celebrating the arrival of the city's patron saint, cheered by over 350,000 people along the canals. It is the official start of the Christmas holidays in the Netherlands, when Sinterklaas arrives by boat and brings with him the warmth of the North, the joy of children, and a pinch of Christmas spirit. But those who know Saint Nicholas well know that his heart also beats much further south, in Puglia , among the white stones of the Basilica of Saint Nicholas in Bari , where his relics rest and where every year thousands of faithful and tourists gather to celebrate him. In 1087, sailors from Bari brought the relics of Saint Nicholas from Myra (now Turkey) to Bari. This event transformed Bari into a world center for the worship of Saint Nicholas and a bridge between East and West. The majestic Basilica of Saint Nicholas was built to house the relics and was consecrated in 1089. May 8: The day the relics arrived in Bari. This date is particularly significant for the people of Bari, as it celebrates the miracle that made the city famous throughout the world. Saint Nicholas is celebrated in both the Catholic and Orthodox rites, and Bari has become a meeting place between these two souls of Christianity. Two cities, two cultures, one Saint: this is why this journey is a perfect bridge between Mediterranean spirituality and Nordic magic. Amsterdam and Bari: two cities, one Saint In Holland they call him Sinterklaas , in Amsterdam he is a living legend: he arrives by boat from the sea , disembarks among the celebrating crowd and rides his white steed through the streets of the city centre and stays there until December 6th. In Bari, however, Saint Nicholas is the protector, the patron saint, and the soul of the old city. There, in the heart of Puglia, the Basilica of Saint Nicholas houses the relics of the Holy Bishop of Myra, which arrived in 1087 by a group of sailors from Bari. In Bari , Saint Nicholas is faith and miracle. The celebrations are spiritual, filled with pilgrimages and devotion...and also with local traditions. In Amsterdam , Sinterklaas is joy and celebration: an urban parade, traditional sweets (such as pepernoten and hot chocolate), colorful costumes and music in the streets. Sinterklaas Welcome Parade Amsterdam 2025: Dates, Route, and Fun Facts On the occasion of the celebrations, Amsterdam is preparing to welcome the Sinterklaas Welcome Parade on November 16, 2025 , from 10:00 to 15:30 , for its new official edition of the Winter Festival Amsterdam . Sinterklaas is expected to arrive by boat on the Amstel River, disembarking at the Maritime Museum (Scheepvaartmuseum) around 11:30 am , with more than 100 boats taking part in the river parade. From there, the procession continues through the centre to Leidseplein , where Sinterklaas gives his official greeting to the city. Best things to do in Amsterdam Each year, the event attracts over 300,000 spectators from around the world. Tickets are not required: the parade is free and accessible to all, perfect for families, couples, or curious visitors seeking an authentic local experience. Participation is free, but for special experiences such as boat tours or reserved areas you can book via winterfestivalamsterdam.com or the city's official tourist channels. It's recommended to arrive early (around 9:00) to get the best spot along the canal — and wrap up warm with gloves and a hat: November in Amsterdam can be enchanting… but also very cold! Events not to be missed during Sinterklaas Day In addition to the main parade, Amsterdam comes alive with a series of unmissable events: Children's workshops and Christmas markets along the canals and in the city's museums. Christmas concerts and street performances in the Leidseplein and Museumplein areas. Sinterklaas Cruise , a themed mini cruise to admire the arrival of the Saint directly from the water (bookable on the official website of the Winter Festival Amsterdam ). How to get to Amsterdam from Bari or Brindisi Getting to Amsterdam from Puglia is easy, but it does require a bit of planning. By plane : the most convenient flights depart from Bari Karol Wojtyła Airport (BRI) . Transavia offers direct seasonal connections . Once you arrive at Schiphol, the NS Intercity train takes you to the heart of Amsterdam in 15 minutes. From Amsterdam Centraal , you can reach the parade area (Scheepvaartmuseum and Leidseplein) by tram (lines 2, 11, or 12). Travel tip: Sleep in the city the night before the event to experience the magic from the first light of day and enjoy a Dutch breakfast with steaming coffee and stroopwafels. Welkom Sinterklaas, welcome Saint Nicholas!

  • Ryanair tightens baggage rules, increasing bonuses for staff for size checks and increasing costs for passengers.

By Craig Saueurs Diritti d'autore Dev Schwartz/Unsplash Gate staff can earn up to €2.50 for each non-compliant bag they detect. Ryanair's incentives to enforce limits and increase the fees charged to passengers for checking larger bags will begin in November. Ryanair is changing its carry-on baggage policy: starting next November, staff will receive a higher incentive, increasing from €1.50 to €2.50 for each non-compliant bag stopped at the gate. The monthly baggage limit of €80 will also be eliminated. Anyone attempting to check in oversized baggage without paying a supplement risks paying an extra fee of up to 75 euros to send it to the hold. Chief Executive Michael O'Leary defended the company's move, saying strict enforcement of the rules was necessary to maintain punctual flights and low fares . What's new with baggage allowances for Ryanair passengers? Ryanair's policy allows you to bring a small backpack (40 x 30 x 20 cm) free of charge, which can be placed under your seat. A carry-on bag requires an additional fee. Every year, approximately 200,000 passengers , or 0.1 percent of Ryanair's total, are stopped for oversized baggage. "I'm still amazed by those who think they can slip through without us noticing," O'Leary said, reiterating that those who don't follow the rules will not be allowed to board. ....CONTINUE READING ON EURONEWS

  • 10 Must‑Do Experiences in Alberobello

An emotional journey through fairytale trulli, local stories, and foodie tips to discover the magic of this UNESCO World Heritage site. I'm Manuela Lenoci , former press officer for the Municipality of Alberobello and now the voice behind A Pugliese Around the World . Here in the rolling hills of the Itria Valley lies Alberobello, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since December 6, 1996 . Its recognition comes from the presence of over 1,500 trulli – “an exceptional type of building, continuous habitation, and survival of a prehistoric construction culture…” Learn more QUI The historic site includes six main areas: Rione Monti, Aia Piccola, Casa d’Amore, Piazza del Mercato, the Historical Museum, and the iconic Trullo Sovrano. The trulli  are the architectural soul of Alberobello – l iving monuments born from practical needs, shaped by rural traditions , and now celebrated symbols of beauty and resilience. Alberobello is the essence of Puglia , carved in dry stone. Ancient legends live alongside boutique homes, international events, and friendships with places like Shirakawa‑gō in Japan. Discovering the town while enjoying a panino pasqualino  (highly recommended!) amidst forest scents and postcard views is an unforgettable experience. From Shame to Pride Until the mid-20th century, trulli   were seen as symbols of poverty: cold in winter, hot in summer, uncomfortable, and “crude.” Residents were often ashamed to live in them. Large families slept 6 or 7 to a room, with animals kept in wall niches inside the same space. But after Alberobello received its UNESCO status in 1996 and started gaining media attention, perceptions changed. Today, many trulli have been lovingly restored and transformed into: Luxury resorts and historic homes Artisan workshops Gourmet restaurants Charming holiday rental s Famous guests such as Madonna, Helen Mirren, Giorgio Armani, and Will Smith have all stayed or visited trulli during their trips to Puglia. Prehistoric Origins and Rural Roots Trulli  have very ancient roots, inspired by early prehistoric dwellings found across P uglia and the Mediterranean. But the version we admire today in Alberobello developed i n the 15th century, under the Kingdom of Naples. Farmers sent to this area by the Acquaviva d’Aragona family of Conversano were not allowed to build permanent homes, due to taxes imposed by King Ferdinand I of Aragon. So they found a clever solution: d ry stone construction, with no mortar, allowing the houses to be dismantled quickly if inspectors arrived. This is the origin of the famous “trulli tax” legend, passed down through generations. According to this tale, trulli were built without mortar to appear temporary , helping residents avoid taxes required by Neapolitan law, known as Prammatica de Baronibus . If necessary, they could be taken apart on short notice. Though likely exaggerated, t he story lives on as part of Alberobello’s rich intangible heritage. In truth, trulli are quite sturdy and were essential shelters for both families and livestock in rural life. How Is a Trullo Built? A trullo  is a traditional dry-stone hut made from local limestone , without the use of cement or mortar. It typically has a circular or square base and a cone-shaped roof made of flat stones called chianche  or chiancarelle . Inside, there's usually just one room, often featuring small alcoves carved into the thick stone walls. At the very top of the roof, you’ll often find a decorative stone pinnacle . This could serve an ornamental, spiritual, or protective (apotropaic) purpose. Mysterious Symbols on Trulli Roofs Many trulli have w hite symbols painted with lime on their roofs – crosses, hearts, zodiac signs, or ancient Christian monograms ( christograms ). Every family had their own symbol, often inspired by superstitions, Christianity, or sun worship. 10 Must-Do Things in Alberobello 1. Wander the Alleys of Rione Monti  – Alberobello’s Most Iconic Postcard Rione Monti Rione Monti  is the most famous and photographed district in Alberobello . The best view of its trulli is from Belvedere Santa Lucia , located in Piazza Gian Girolamo II, right next to the Church of the Holy Sacrament (better known as Chiesa di Santa Lucia ) . From this viewpoint, you’ll be mesmerized by the sight of over 1,000 trulli stacked closely together – a scene that feels part fairytale, part movie set. At sunrise, the soft light and peaceful silence create a magical, once-in-a-lifetime atmosphere. B uilt between the 17th and 18th centuries, this was one of the town’s first “illegal” settlements .The neighborhood grew around a shared aia  (threshing floor), and today it’s home to artisans, local shops, guesthouses, and small museums. It's also the stage for incredible events like the Alberobello Light Festival , with artistic light projections on the trulli during holidays and festivals. 📍 Don’t Miss : The Siamese Trullo , linked to the legend of two brothers in love with the same woman Via Monte San Michele , the most scenic and photographed street in town The Church of Sant’Antonio , a one-of-a-kind trullo-shaped church 2. Explore Rione Aia Piccola  – The Authentic Soul of Alberobello If Rione Monti  is Alberobello’s tourist showcase, Rione Aia Piccola  is its true heart. This peaceful district is home to around 400 trulli  still genuinely lived in by locals . You won’t find souvenir shops here – just the authentic rhythm of everyday life. My own afternoon walks among blooming flowers and curious cats are still legendary among former colleagues. The name Aia Piccola  comes from the old aia , a shared open space once used for threshing grain and other communal farm work. The district was built during the 18th century, following Alberobello’s recognition as a free town in 1797 by King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, who ended the area’s feudal rule. 📍 What to See : Casa Pezzolla , now part of the Museo del Territorio The Belvedere Santa Lucia  just nearby, for amazing views Quiet, winding alleys – perfect for a slower, more intimate look at Alberobello 3. Trullo Sovrano – The “King” of All Trulli in Alberobello The Trullo Sovrano  is the only two-story trullo  in Alberobello and stands as a true architectural gem. Built using mortar—defying the 17th-century ban on permanent structures—it marks a turning point in the evolution of traditional trulli. Its walls are up to 2.7 meters thick , showcasing both strength and prestige. Constructed in the 18th century by a wealthy family connected to the local clergy—likely the Perta family—it also included a private chapel.Unlike older dry-stone trulli, this one used bonded stones, symbolizing a more permanent and refined version of rural housing. Today, the Trullo Sovrano is an ethnographic museum , fully furnished with original furniture and everyday items from the 19th and early 20th centuries, offering a fascinating glimpse into the life of a traditional Puglian family. 📍 Location : Piazza Sacramento, behind the Church of Saints Medici Open year-round  – ticketed entrance Why visit : It’s the only two-floor trullo and immerses you in the real domestic history of Alberobello 4. The Siamese Trullo – Love, Rivalry, and Unique Architecture One of Alberobello’s most intriguing trulli is the Siamese Trullo , instantly recognizable by its double domes and separate entrances . According to legend, two brothers fell in love with the same woman. When rivalry broke out, the house was split into two—each brother with his own door—a powerful symbol of a love story turned sour. Beyond the legend, it’s also a rare example of a twin-family home  from the 1800s, built out of necessity for large households. Today, it houses a small artisan workshop and remains a must-see along the alleys of Rione Monti . 📍 Location : Via Monte Nero, Alberobello Why visit : It’s one of the most photographed and story-rich trulli in towno 5. Church of Sant’Antonio – The Great Sacred Trullo In the heart of Rione Monti , among stone alleys and cone-shaped roofs, rises the Church of Sant’Antonio  – the only church in the world built like a trullo . Inaugurated in 1927, it was completed in just 14 months, thanks to the will of the local priest, Don Antonio Lippolis , who wanted a place of worship for the residents of this then-outskirt district. The church replicates trullo architecture on a monumental scale: a Greek-cross floor plan, a central dome reaching 21 meters high , and the signature conical ceilings. It was designed by Antonio Palmisano , a local mason who beautifully blended faith and folk tradition. The interior is bright and simple, featuring statues, modern frescoes, and seasonal religious celebrations. 📍 Location : At the top of Via Monte Pertica, highest point of Rione Monti Why visit : It’s the perfect fusion of spirituality and traditional rural architecture Fun fact : Often used as a backdrop for photo shoots and projection art during night eventssata come sfondo per servizi fotografici e proiezioni artistiche durante eventi serali 6. Museo del Territorio – Casa Pezzolla: The Living History of Alberobello In the heart of Rione Aia Piccola , just steps from the historic center, you’ll find one of the most symbolic places of Alberobello’s collective memory: Casa Pezzolla , now home to the Museum of the Territory . This unique complex is made up of 15 interconnected trulli , built between the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Once the private home and medical practice of Dr. Giuseppe Pezzolla , a respected physician who served the Bourbon court, today it has been transformed into a cultural and historical museum . The museum offers a rich, immersive experience of Alberobello’s rural past and evolution , through: Reconstructed traditional living spaces Farming tools and everyday objects Old trades and crafts displays Temporary exhibitions and interactive experiences It’s the perfect starting point  for anyone who wants to truly understand what it was like to live in a trullo, and how Alberobello evolved from a humble farming village to a UNESCO World Heritage Site . 📍 Location : Piazza XXVII Maggio Open year-round  – entry ticket required Why visit : It’s the “talking trullo” that shares Alberobello’s soul and story 7. “Trulli Tales” – The Disney Cartoon Born in Alberobello "Trulli Tales – The Adventures of the Trullalleri"  is a children’s animated series created by sisters Fiorella and Maria Elena Congedo  from Lecce, Italy. The project started as an illustrated book published by their family publishing house, Congedo Editore , and grew into a TV series co-produced by Rai Fiction, Fandango TV, Gaumont Animation , and Groupe PVP , with the participation of Disney EMEA . Set in a magical village inspired by the trulli of Alberobello , the series follows the adventures of four young apprentice chefs and wizards: Ring, Sun, Zip, and Stella . Using cooking tools as magic wands, they work to protect a secret recipe book that once belonged to Grandma Trulla , the village founder, from the evil villain Copperpot . With 52 episodes  of 11 minutes each, Trulli Tales  aired on Disney Junior  and Rai YoYo  in Italy, and has been exported to over 112 countries , including France, the UK, Canada, and Brazil. 📌 Why it matters : It brings Alberobello’s charm to children around the world, turning its magical trulli into global icons. 8. Alberobello and Shirakawa-gō: A UNESCO Twin Friendship Alberobello’s twin village in Japan is Shirakawa-gō , famous for its traditional thatched-roof houses  known as gasshō-zukuri . Though far apart in geography, these two places share a deep connection through vernacular architecture  and cultural heritage. Both UNESCO World Heritage Sites , Alberobello and Shirakawa-gō are living examples of how ancient rural communities adapted their homes to local conditions — using dry stone in Italy and steep thatched roofs in Japan. Their twinning agreement , signed in the 2000s, encourages cultural exchange , tourism collaboration , and joint preservation efforts . It’s a meaningful connection that shows how rural architecture can build bridges across continents. 📌 Why visit This special relationship celebrates the value of heritage, sustainability, and respect for nature in two very different yet similar worlds.sa diventare ponte tra continenti e tradizioni lontane. 9. Must-See Events and Year-Round Highlights in Alberobello 1. Feast of Saints Cosmas and Damian (September 26–27) This is Alberobello’s most important religious celebration , honoring its patron saints. The festival includes processions, local food stalls, music, and folk performances , offering a deep dive into the town’s traditions and spiritual soul. 📌 Why attend : It’s the best time to feel the true heart of Alberobello and experience its community spirit. 2. Alberobello Light Festival (Summer) During summer nights, the trulli become magical . Thanks to artistic light projections, the village turns into a fairy-tale setting —perfect for photographers, couples, and families. Each edition offers new themes and immersive light experiences. 📌 Best tip : Visit at sunset and stay into the evening to enjoy the full light show magic. 10,  The “Panino Pasqualino”: A Bite of Alberobello’s Culinary History The Panino Pasqualino  is more than a sandwich—it's a symbol of Alberobello’s rural roots . This traditional dish was born as a humble yet flavorful meal made by local farmers during Easter and spring festivals . Originally, it was made of thin pastry filled with seasonal vegetables  like chard, spinach, or artichokes, along with cheese, eggs, and aromatic herbs. The goal? To create a nutritious, portable meal  to take to the fields. Today, you can find the Panino Pasqualino in local bakeries and delis  around Alberobello, especially during festive times. 📌 Why try it : It’s a delicious way to taste the town’s history—simple, hearty, and 100% Apulian.

  • Lofoten Islands Road Trip: A Journey for Alternative Travelers

Discover where the Lofoten Islands are, what to see, and the best time to go for unforgettable hikes, saunas, and Arctic adventures in Norway Traveling from southern Italy to the Arctic Circle is not just about distance—it's a journey of transformation. It’s a way of saying: “I can go farther than I ever imagined.” The Lofoten Islands in Northern Norwa y are more than a destination—they're an experience. Hidden beyond the usual tourist routes , they offer raw, wild beauty and deep emotions. This isn’t a typical vacation. It’s for those who want something real, something that shakes you up inside and stays with you forever. Why Visit the Lofoten Islands? The Lofoten archipelago  is where dramatic peaks rise directly from the sea, and the light seems endless. This remote corner of Arctic Norway  is often called one of Europe's best-kept secrets . It’s a place for travelers, not tourists. People come here to feel alive, to embrace silence, and to reconnect with nature—and themselves. There are no luxury resorts or city lights here —just stunning landscapes, deep fjords, and raw emotions. It’s a place for those ready to step outside their comfort zone and fall in love with the world again Where Are the Lofoten Islands? The Lofoten Islands  are located above the Arctic Circle in Northern Norway , around 200 kilometers from Tromsø . The name “Lofoten” means “lynx’s foot” in Old Norse—fitting for these jagged, dramatic islands. There are seven main islands, connected by the breathtaking E10 scenic route  (also known as Lofast). Driving this road is an unforgettable experience in itself. The main islands include: Austvågøya Gimsøya Vestvågøya Flakstadøya Moskenesøya You can explore by car, bike, or on foot , crossing bridges, tunnels, and winding roads with sea views at every turn. When to Go to the Lofoten Islands Midnight Sun (May to July) :From late May, the sun doesn’t set. You can hike, cycle, or explore even at midnight. It’s a magical time when the Arctic light never fades. Northern Lights (October to March) :In winter, the islands are one of the best places in the world to see the Northern Lights  dancing over red fishing cabins and snow-covered peaks. H ow to Get to the Lofoten Islands from Italy ✈️ Fly from Bari to Oslo: I flew with Lufthansa from Bari to Frankfurt , then to Tromsø . On the way back, I departed from Bodø , with stops in Oslo  and Munich  before landing back in Bari. ✈️ From Rome or Milan : There are direct flights to Oslo .From Oslo, you can take a domestic flight to Tromsø or Bodø . 🚗 From Tromsø or Bodø : Rent a car and start your road trip toward the Lofoten Islands, heading to Svolvær , the gateway to the archipelago. Best Road Trip in Norway: Drive the E10 The E10 highway  is one of Norway’s most scenic drives . It connects the main Lofoten Islands and offers breathtaking views of fjords, mountains, fishing villages , and the open sea . Just rent a car or bike and drive slowly. But be careful— speed cameras and police controls  are everywhere. Fines are high, and limits change quickly (from 80 km/h to 30 km/h in seconds), so always follow the road signs—not just Google Maps. Highlights of a Lofoten Road Trip: What to See and Do 🗺️ Epic Hiking Trails :Trek mountain paths with panoramic views of the ocean and fjords. 🏘️ Fishing Villages :Visit Reine, Henningsvær, Nusfjord —colorful villages with red cabins on the water. 🛶 Outdoor Activities :Go kayaking, whale watching, or Arctic surfing (yes, it exists!). 📸 Photo Spots :Capture the midnight sun , aurora borealis , or reflections in mirror-like fjords. 🛏️ Where to Sleep :Stay in traditional rorbuer cabins  or cozy lodges with sea views. 🍽️ Where to Eat :Try Arctic cod (skrei) , fresh salmon, or cinnamon buns from local bakeries. But remember: restaurants often close kitchens at 20:00–21:00 . I took on this journey with the free spirit  that has always guided me, together with Viaggi Avventure nel Mondo —a way of traveling that, for me, is more than just a trip. It’s a real school of life .A group of travelers, a backpack (and a suitcase in the hold), and a distant destination—that’s all you need to discover that true beauty often lies in the places that feel a little scary to reach. I challenged myself—the part of me that wants to give up before reaching the summit, the voice that asks, “Why are you doing this?”I pushed through rough trails , under skies that never turned dark, surrounded by an Arctic landscape  that doesn’t forgive easily—but gives everything back, if you know how to respect it. A rctic Sauna and Cold Sea Dip: A Nordic Ritual Here’s a tip: take a traditional sauna (up to 100°C), then dip into the freezing Norwegian Sea . It’s a true Nordic experience—one of the most intense and refreshing feelings ever. Your body will tremble, but your mind will fly. Try it once in your life—you won’t regret it. And you stop sleeping. You head out at midnight for a hike, a solo bike ride, or just to watch the shadows stretch instead of fade. It’s the midnight sun , a surreal explosion of endless time. In winter, it’s the opposite— the polar nights  light up with Northern Lights , dancing above the red rooftops of the fishing villages. (attento ai limiti di velocità e agli autevelox, La norvegia non perdona e le multe sono salatissime)   Why You Should Go (At Least Once in Your Life) Because travel changes you . Because even from a small village in southern Italy, you can reach the wild heart of the Arctic . And when you return, you’ll be different. Stronger. More alive. Practical Tips for Visiting the Lofoten Islands ✅ Book flights, ferries, and summer saunas in advance ✅ Wear hiking boots and bring technical clothing ✅ Bring a swimsuit and towel for sauna experiences ✅ Supermarkets close at 23:00, but restaurants may stop serving much earlier ✅ Respect speed limits! Fines for speeding start at €450—even for 10 km/h over the limit  Cosa vedere e fare lungo l’itinerario in auto Dove dormire, mangiare e relax alle Lofoten Trekking epici e attività outdoor

  • Unexpected Germany: travelling through Baden Wurttemberg and the Black Forest of the Brothers Grimm

This is one of the travel to put on the to-do list. This area of s outhwestern Germany's Baden Wurttemberg hides nature-wonderful places wrapped in an ancient mystery There are places that don’t try to impress, but stay with you in the quiet way that only truth can. B aden-Württemberg is one of them . A region where the rhythm of travel aligns with that of nature, and beauty reveals itself in the smallest, most authentic moments: a bench overlooking a mountain lake, the smell of dark bread in a village square, the light filtering through the fir trees of the Black Forest. Here in southwest Germany, vibrant, creative cities like Stuttgart and Freiburg coexist with villages steeped in history, where half-timbered houses and a quiet sense of hospitality speak of a deep-rooted culture of care and balance. This is a land that invites you to slow down, to listen, to follow its lead—along wine trails, through thermal waters, in local markets—where innovation and tradition live side by side with quiet confidence. In this story, we’ll journey through the landscapes and atmospheres that make Baden-Württemberg one of Europe’s most genuine and rewarding regions. Not just a destination, but a way of traveling that resonates deeply. When I think of Baden-Württemberg, I immediately want to go back. It is one of those undiscovered regions of Germany that stays in your heart , perfect in every season, but for me there are two ideal times to experience it at its best: winter and summer. In December and January, i deal if you are a dreamer looking for an enchanted world thanks to the Christmas Markets.. xmas market Ravennaschlucht - Look ad this video Here, in the heart of southern Germany , Christmas markets are like small, enchanted villages. Bathed in golden light, filled with the scent of spices and cinnamon, and wrapped in the warmth of mulled wine, they offer more than just souvenirs — they offer moments that linger in memory and warm the soul. Wandering through the stalls of Stuttgart, Esslingen, or Freiburg means stepping into a world of hand-carved wood, traditional sweets, and soft carols drifting through the winter air. With a little luck, snowflakes will begin to fall, completing a scene that feels straight out of a fairy tale. It’s one of the most authentic and magical holiday experiences in Europe — where even the cold becomes part of the charm. But winter in Baden-Württemberg is also about wellness and renewal . Just a short distance from the festive crowds lies Baden-Baden , the elegant “Grand Dame of German Spas" Famed since the time of Queen Victoria , its healing thermal waters continue to flow through historic bathhouses that welcome visitors from all walks of life. Hot baths, steam rituals, and saunas reaching 100°C, all nestled in cozy wooden cabins, promise deep relaxation and comfort. After a day of snowy strolls and festive cheer, surrenderin g to the warmth of the spa is the perfect way to unwind — a soothing ritual that connects body and mind. In Baden-Württemberg, winter is not just a season. It’s an invitation to slow down, breathe deeply, and rediscover the joy of living — one experience at a time. Some I have been to Badeparadies Schwarzwald   and Solemar   and Der Öschberghof (qui trovate anche hotel)   and Terme di Caracalla But beware. In Germany you can enter completely naked in the spa areas (steam bath or sauna) Read BEST CHRISTMAS MARKET IN GERMANY And then there is the summer. From May to August, Baden-Württemberg changes completely. N ature explodes in a thousand colors , the meadows are green and flowers everywhere. For those who love walking and cycling, it is really very beautiful. There are never-ending bike paths and trails here, t here is something for all levels, and every corner gives you a different view, and you can even get around the everyday by bike. It is beautiful to get lost among forests, vineyards and small villages that look like something out of a postcard. If you love nature and the outdoors, this is the season for you. No matter what kind of trip you are looking for, whether it is relaxation or adventure, Baden-Württemberg always has something special to offer. I can't wait to go back, and I really hope you can experience it too! In my column "A portata di Manu"  I offer you ideas, experiences and itineraries, but also things to do if you come to these parts In the article (next to each individual experience) are all the references for booking tickets or excursions or guided tours in the area Where is Baden-Wurttemberg Germany is divided into 16 federal states , also known as " Lander " in Dutch. These states are: Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Hessen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein, and Thuringia. Each state has its own government and parliament, and they have some self-government in areas such as education, culture and police. Baden Wurttemberg is one of the largest states in Germany, includes forest-covered mountains, large lakes, and romantic cities, set in a diverse landscape bordering Switzerland and France that make it truly special and international. From thermal spas (popular almost year-round due to cold temperatures) to natural areas to historic cities and towns, a trip to Baden-Wuerttemberg offers attractions for everyone and the whole family. The region also includes one of Germany's oldest universities located in Freiburg then there are also cities such as Tübingen Constance, Karlsruhe and Stuttgart and beautiful forests and bicycle paths that run through the green and connect all of Germany's cities, making life green, being able to engage in outdoor sports and change lifestyle The Black Forest is one of the most famous destinations in Baden-Wuerttemberg. This area of mountains, forests and waterfalls host small spa towns and excellent ski resorts within a magnificent scenic setting. I've made several stops in the Parco naturale della Foresta Nera meridionale both cycling and walking. The Black Forest also includes numerous lakes that can be visited by boat, such as that of Costanza or Bodensee , and Schluchsee and the Titisee you absolutely must see. There are many equipped barbecue areas in the Black Forest. Here, the State provides public and communal areas, picnic and barbecue areas where you can bring food and relax. There are also open-air gyms i n almost every town in Germany. Among the most famous cities is Stoccarda , a real beauty full of historic buildings. Being the capital and largest city of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Stuttgart hosts impressive castles, beautiful gardens, various museums and art galleries. Check out the imposing Castle of Solitude, an 18th-century Rococo Palace located in the Stuttgart-West district, and the lush botanical-zoological garden, called Wilhelma. How to reach Baden Wurttemberg. Connections to Baden Baden, Stuttgart, Zurich and Basel The first time I flow from Bari to Baden Baden with a Ryanair flight. However, this area is also well served by other airports such as Stuttgart, Zurich and Basel. The picture is about Basel Airport famous for the double international exit that allow people to go out on the France side or the Switzerland part. By plane:  There are some airlines that operate flights from Bari or Brindisi to and from the airports of Stoccarda or Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden , Basel Mulhouse Friburgo and Zurigo 1) Eurowings (from Bari e Brindisi to Stoccarda) 2) Ryanair (only from Bari to Baden Baden) 3) Easy Jet both Brindisi and Bari for Aeroporto di Basilea Mulhouse Friburgo. 4) ITA with a stop-over in Rome from Zurich and then a direct flight from Rome to Bari or Brindisi 5) Swiss air From Zurich with a direct flight to Bari If you fly into Stuttgart you can take a train to Baden Baden which in 1h 30 minutes (cost about 30 euros) takes you to the spa town. If you fly into Baden Baden from the airport there are buses leaving every hour toward Baden Baden central station. Train schedules to or from Baden Baden station you can look up on the official Deutsche Bahn   website however from the station you can also take another bus to the center or other direct buses to some cities in Baden-Wuerttemberg . The Baden Baden station is located along the Mannheim-Karlsruhe-Basel railway. To get from Karlsruhe Airport/Baden Baden (FKB) to Baden-Baden, you can also go by cab, it costs €75 - €95 and takes 22 min If you fly into Basel you have some options A Flixbus bus on French side exit to Reach Villingen (in Germany) The fastest train ride from Villingen-Schwenningen to Basel and vice versa takes 2 hours 35 minutes . During the week, there are about 43 trains per day. Travel times may change on weekends and holidays. Unfortunately, there is no direct connection from Villingen-Schwenningen to Basel. You have to change trains at least once on this route. The first train from Villingen-Schwenningen to Basel is at 05:49. The last train from Villingen-Schwenningen to Basel is at 23:08. Or you can rent a ca r Must do things in Baden Wurttemberg Moving by car allowed me to create a tailor-made vacation by choosing from all the wonderful opportunities this part of the territory offers: Hiking in the Black Forest , visiting the lake and the city of Constance, tasting with typical German dishes, visiting the European Parliament, (Strasburgo, Francia)   to have dinner in the Stuttgart Cheese Factory, , (Alsazia, Francia)   visiting the waterfalls (Svizzera) . I also treated myself to lots of relaxation at the spa as well as more than one visit to the sparkling university city of Freiburg im Breisgau whose historic center is a little medieval gem. Villingen-Schwenningen, a step away from the black forest As I planned the trip, I became curious about the story of Villingen-Schwenningen  and I have been thinking of staying right here and I have been coming to this town more and more often now.  It is 1.30 hours away from Baden Baden  in the German state of Baden-Württemberg,  in the Schwarzwald region, in the Freiburg administrative district. Two townships Villingen and Schwenningen  converging into a modern town in the Black Forest. Villingen used to be part of the Grand Duchy of Baden  while Schwenningen used to be part of the Duchy of Württemberg. Villingen is the more attractive of the two because  it is sorrounded by high walls within which, the town reminds one of a medieval mountain village with its colorful buildings and peaked roofs. The Saturday morning  the must do is the market in the small town square , where people love to go shopping and buying lots of quality and fresh food for the whole week. I highlight the cheese stand  and recommend you try the very good French cheese EPOISSES spreadable cheese (it is quite addictive because of how good it is even though it leaves an incredible stink on your hands). Also great is the Cheesecake stand (classic or berry) that you can find at Stefans  . The fruit and vegetable stalls are interesting, but so is the bread stand to mark the great connection with Puglia Read More.... where to dine in Villlingen - Schwenningen Experience the Holy Mary of Lourdes in the Black Forest From Villingen, I visited the Lourdes-Grotte zur Elsenau   for convenience I also give you the coordinate di Google della grotta .  Among other suggestions, with a 25 km flat trek.  The Lourdes Cave at the Marian pilgrimage site "Elsenau"  is wonderfully nestled in nature on the country road between Obereschach and Kappel.  The prayer place is visited all year round with pleasure by many faithful coming from near and far. You can also reach the Lourdes Grotte by car in 20 minutes. The old town of Villingen Villingen lies on the border between the Black Forest and the Baar Plateau, and is crossed by the Brigach , one of the waterways that joins the Breg at Donaueschingen to form the Danube. The old town, surrounded by ancient medieval walls, is dotted with towers and gates that once served as entrances to the city. Prominent among them is the Romäus Tower , dedicated to the legendary Landsknecht hero of local lore . Don't miss the majestic cathedral dating from the 12th century and the fountain in the square in front of it , adorned with curious, grotesque sculptural scenes. The Villingen Cathedral Villingen Cathedral ( Münster of Our Lady ) is a cathedral in the center of the Villingen district in Villingen-Schwenningen . It is the main Catholic church in Villingen . It was originally dedicated to John the Baptist. In addition to church services, concerts are also held in Villingen Cathedral , although these are limited to sacred music Read More.... where to dine in Villlingen - Schwenningen FREIBURG in Breisgau If you are in this area you have several alternatives. You can stay in either Villingen (medieval city par excellence) or Constance (magical because of the lake) or Freiburg, a sparkling and culturally vibrant city. The atmosphere in Freiburg is typical of Mediterranean countries (far from German stereotypes). People here have a relaxed lifestyle characteristic of Baden - west of Freiburg. I felt right away the easy going attitude of the people I met on the street who were sitting intent on sipping a coffee or a good wine in the old town, full of cafes and small restaurants. I was impressed by its atmosphere and the details that make it special, such as the Bächle , small streams of crystal-clear water fed by the fiume Dreisam river that flow along the streets of the old town where “people” have a habit of chilling bottles of wine for dinner. Read more about what to do in FREIBURG IM BR EISGAU Thermal Spa Baden Baden what a passion The best way to understand German culture is by going to spas or saunas and spending as much time as possible. The s aunas here are for naked people . Aside from the initial discomfort no one pays any attention to the others, getting undressed and re-connecting with the water and vapors is part of the culture of this people. I have been to spas on more than one occasion by taking a spa trip to " Terme Solemar " in Bad Dürrheim with 13 indoor and outdoor pools . The beauty of these places is that the water here is always warm. Pleasant the steambath, but I mostly spent my time by the Jacuzzi jets in the outdoor pool. This is a European spa that uses salt water, and there are six themed saunas (with a separate entrance) whose heat reaches up to 80 degrees. To get into each of the six, the walking path is in the trees, connected by stone stairs, that you have to walk down in a towel, completely wet at an outside temperature that is I would say freezing but pleasant due to the very high body temperature reached in the sauna. I went back to the spa several times in the winter months and enjoyed in December the 5o degrees of water and the -10 degrees of outdoor temperature. However I also visited the Terme di Caracalla a beautiful complex with a huge central pool and spacious relaxation area Some I have been to   Badeparadies Schwarzwald   and Solemar   and Der Öschberghof (qui trovate anche hotel)   and Terme di Caracalla   Black Forest , magical in winter romantic in spring This wonderful forest of more than 150 km was the setting for some of the most beautiful and famous fairy tales written by the Brothers Grimm. Sadly, the Baden Wurttemberg area was not among those of most inspiration for the brothers Grimm. Nevertheless, foresta nera in his imagery made me become a child again. Being guided by the sound of nature and the twitter of little birds, I have imagined running into the little marzipan house discovered by the little brothers Hansel and Gretel (set in Christenberg) or watching Little Red Riding Hood popping up running away from the wolf (set in the forest near Schwalmstadt) or suddenly reaching the foot of Hofgeismar Castle where the story of The Sleeping Beauty took place. I only guessed because the same are sighted in the northern part of Germany. In Any case, trekking in the Black Forest, whether on foot or by bike, is an essential stop all the times you pass through these parts. Since I frequent this part of Germany, I have been milling kilometers on foot and by bike, immersed in the thickest vegetation and towering old trees that barely filter the sun's rays. It lies in southwest Germany, as we mentioned, in the Baden-Württemberg region. It were the Romans who gave it this name (Latin Silva Nigra ), for its vegetation made of dark green trees and so dense that the sun's rays do not shine through. The Black Forest has many activities for both adults and children. Among these is the lake Titise e le cascate Triberg , Triberg waterfalls, the highest within the Black Forest. They are reached by walking along a path through the woods. Here the Gutach waters form a beautiful waterfall with 7 leaps on the granite rocks Trekking, walking and biking, with departure from Villingen in the Black Forest No matter if you are a fan of scenic views, long-distance cyclists or short-distance runner, or walkers. The Black Forest can be explored with a lot of pleasure by bicycle and on foot. The bicycle trail network in the Black Forest tourism region is very extensive . From this link Percorsi TREKKING e BICI Foresta Nera or by downloading the app you can easily have a guide at hand and following in addition to road signs indicated by road, very easy, accurate, with an explanation of the kilometers to be covered to get to your destination, find your way with the paths traced in the phone. Lake and City of Constance For Germans, the Lake of Constance  is a real sea, to the point that they call it "Schwäbisches Meer"  We have been there several times reaching this location either by car or by bike (there is a whole bike path) but then returning by train in the evening. Lago di Costanza, well known as Bodensee .  is the third largest freshwater lake we have in Europe. If you are around here, the daylight stays until 10 p.m.  allowing you lots of time to visit the medieval city of Constance , Germany's most southern city. • 10 Must-Do Things to Do in Gravina in Puglia

The Acquedotto Bridge in Gravina in Puglia has become an iconic location for Hollywood thanks to the James Bond scene in No Time To Die The scene is really crazy not only for the people of Gravina but for the whole world. Daniel Craig a.k.a. James Bond 007 to escape from a motorcycle speeding towards him jumps from the rail of the Acquedotto Bridge in Gravina in Puglia into the void, hanging only from a rope Leggi anche 10 + 3 COSE IMPERDIBILI DA FARE NEL PARCO DELL'ALTA MURGIA Gravina in Puglia had already been the set of Italian and international productions in the past from Sergio Rubini's film“ Il Bene mio ”, to director Garth Davies' drama " Mary Magdalene " cstarring Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara as Jesus and Mary Magdalene respectively and Chiwetel Ejiofor as the apostle Peter, to Garrone's Pinocchio in which the famous wooden child walked with his back to the bridge. Also a Hollywood star thanks to No time to die with Daniel Craig, and who knows, now history may repeat itself with the star of such colossals as Top gun (the new chapter Maverick was released last year) and Mission impossible , Tom Cruise was spotted in Bari a few months ago in a Top secret version. Il Ponte Acquedotto , Ambassador of history If we think of the city d Gravina, the first thing that comes to mind is to visit where the Ponte Acquedotto . is located. Without a doubt this is the symbol of the city , as majestic as it is imposing, it is perfect as a starting point for an excursion here on the murgia. The first, walking down the stone staircase (via giudice Montea) that brings you from the Belvedere della Gravina towards the bastion. There right in the middle of the steps, a spectacle of nature presents itself before your eyes, looking to your left, where the connection between past and present is clearly visible . By the way, if you are crazy about photos, it is also the most Instagrammable spot in the city. In my column "A portata di Manu"  I offer you ideas, experiences and itineraries as well as things to do if you come to these parts whether you are a foreign visitor or a tourist at home. In the article (next to each experience) are all the references for booking tickets or excursions or guided tours in the area . After crossing the bridge and thinking that you too would want to do some healthy Bungee Jumping at OO7 keep going straight ahead. You will arrive, just after the bridge at the Pianoro Madonna della Stella , located at the foot of Botromagno Hill, the beating heart of the ancient settlements, At the most extreme part of the rock, looking to the right, almost falling down, I recommend that you sit and admire this ancient beauty. You will feel like you are in another epoch and have gone back in time. This is the second perspective from which I recommend the Gravina Bridge for an unforgettable shot. From here the depth of the canyon is clearly visible. To your left you can glimpse the bridge in its entirety, to your right the Cattedrale di Santa Maria dell'Assunta And its bell tower. At its foot is the medieval Piaggio District , today undergoing recovery and redevelopment. I like to describe this bridge also as a witness to the events that have shaped the life of the local community over the centuries. He is the true silent narrator of Gravina's histor y and still today the “faithful” guardian of the stories of those who have inhabited the enchanting natural environment of the ravines. WHERE GRAVINA IS LOCATED AND HOW TO GET THERE Gravina in Puglia is a municipality in the province of Bari, located in the heart of the Murge highlands, in the Apulian hinterland bordering Basilicata, with which it shares the Bradano River. Seat of the Parco Nazionale Alta Murgia , a few kilometers from Matera e Altamura , while Bari is about 60 km from this city. Pope Benedict XIII, born Pietro Francesco Orsini (in religion Vincenzo Maria), was born in Gravina in Puglia on February 2, 1649. Pope from 1724 to 1730, he is owed important architectural works in the city of Rome, as well as the inauguration of the Spanish Steps of Trinità dei Monti, which connects the church of the same name to the Spanish Steps. Whether you come alone or with family, there is always something nice to do. If you arrive in Puglia by plane , I suggest you land at Bari Airport. From the airport walk to the train station inside the airport and from there take: - From the airport train station, take the train that will take you to Bari Centrale o Bari Centrale FNB (ferrovie nord barese). From the central station you can internally reach the Bari Centrale FAL (ferrovie Appulo Lucane) - station platforms - spot the elevator and go up to the second floor, the FALs depart from there. With this train you can also reach Matera . by car If you choose to rent a car at the airport, you will set the city of your interest on the GPS , which you will reach via the SS96 If you arrive from the A14 Adriatic highway, you can take various exits: Canosa di Puglia, Andria-Barletta, Trani, Molfetta, Bitonto, Bari-North, Bari-South, Gioia del Coll e from the A14 Bologna highway. After the exit you will find directions to the various cities in the Murgia. It is important to know that this city made the “stupor Mundi” Frederick II of Swabia , of the Holy Roman Empire, capitulate. Here Frederick II of Hohenstaufen, had a castle built in 1224 known to all as the Castello di Gravina, of which today the soaring ruins remain on the top of a hill north of Gravina, always well lit and visible. This castle is part of the “triad of Frederician castles,” imposing fortresses that constitute a valuable historical and architectural treasure linked to the era of the influential Holy Roman Emperor. They include the famous Castel del Monte ad Andria, awarded the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site, Castello del Garagnone in Poggiorsini. The Greeks called Gravina Sidion, land of pomegranates the Romans Silvum land of forests. The first settlement dates back to the Neolithic age. It was located on the Petra Magna (o Botromagno ) , hill, on the other side of the Acquedotto Bridge, opposite to where the town stands today. With the Greeks, Sidion evolved to become such an important center that it went so far as to mint its own coinage. Under the Roman Empire the town was called Silvium . It was a military station located on the Appian Way and served to supply marching armies. BUT WHAT ARE THE MUST-DO EXPERIENCES IN GRAVINA? ON THE TRAIL OF JAMES BOND ON THE ACQUEDOTTO BRIDGE An ambassador of Gravina's history, it has always been a key element in the settlement of local people. Tra i 15 capolavori nel mondo da attraversare (Leggi speciale) The Acquedotto Bridge is not only an extraordinary work, but a place that takes you into the authentic heart of Gravina. 37 meters high, 90 meters long and 5 and a half meters wide, it was originally used to allow people to cross the Botromagno Gravina and reach the enchanting rock church of Madonna della Stella. Probably made unstable by the 1686 earthquake, the bridge collapsed in the 1722 earthquake. It was in those dark days that the strength and resilience of the Gravina Acquedotto Bridge emerged. It was the feudal lords of the prestigious Orsini family of Rome who engaged in the reconstruction of the bridge. They had moved to the fiefdom of Gravina and ordered around the middle of the eighteenth century the reconstruction and transformation of the bridge into an aqueduct, to bring up to the city of Gravina the waters of the Sant'Angelo and San Giacomo springs, which were located on the Botromagno side, opposite from the first urban settlements. Historical sources reveal that the original structure of the bridge dates back to the late 17th century, as evidenced by an ancient Notarial Act of 1686. In those years the Gravina Acquedotto Bridge , also known as the viaduct of the Madonna della Stella was already a reference point in the daily life of the local community, providing an essential passage through the karstic landscape. This viaduct was the only means of connecting the two sides, divided by this canyon-like crater carved into the rock by the stream, the Crapo (the ancient name for the Gravina stream). Located on the opposite side of the Gravina, at the foot of the hill of Botromagno  and the “Eternal Father”  archaeological site. A place of worship filled with spirituality and charm, over which hover legends concerning precisely the fertility cult , according to which infertile women who visited the shrine could receive the grace of giving birth to a child. Such grace, according to legend , was attributable to the orgistic rites , which were practiced here and were abolished by Monsignor Cavalieri in 1693,  ordered that "all churches be closed at nightfall, and especially the one which, called of the Star, is consecrated to our Lady Virgin Mother of God,   on the proper day of her feast day, so that access may be precluded to the ancient but insufficiently overcome abuses, as men and women promiscuously go there at nighttime in a revelry of rhythmic sounds and songs  “ (Diocesan Archives of Gravina, Synod, 1693). • Hen Party Malta: 48 hours of pure adrenaline

Direct flight from Bari and major italian hub for the Hen Party in Malta . Easy to reach, and with an incredible variety of experiences wayting for the Spring Bank Holidays 2025 The hardest obstacle was choosing a date when we were all available. Five women from different planets and lives, but with one certainty " Malta is the Travel to do for our Federica's Hen party ". After having settled the children at home, the dogs at the hotel, the office chores and the plants at the neighbor's, we set off towards Malta, Valletta. Federica - The Bride - with her Team Bride Alessandra , Gabriella, Marcella and myself made her first appearance in the Maltese dolce vita, standing tall on one of the coolest Rooftops in the archipelago, Infinity by Hugo's . After all, a hen party in Malta is the coolest destination to get excited in 48 hours of pure adrenaline. Less than 48 hours in Malta, with us, were 3 weeks to tell . Malta is an excellent destination that I recommend to anyone who wants an ideal location for an easy on the road itinerary but also a long weekend on a boat or at the sea among the islands of the archipelago. Public transportation also works very well, should you want to get around the area. Buses in Malta run daily from 5:30am until 10:30pm. All buses are operated entirely by Malta Public Transport : up-to-date routes and timetables can be found on their website Infinity by Hugo , is located at the top of the H Hotel in St Julian's This place is really a MUST DO for a hen and stag party. Here we enjoyed a day surrounded by a panoramic view of St Julian's and the ocean. The outdoor infinity pool was stunning where the fun was to take all the selfies possible and imaginable, try to relax, eat as if there was no tomorrow, meet people from all over the world and.....appreciate the view. Like any self-respecting hen party, we sipped a Mojito in the VIP sofa area taking " The Bride" to enjoy the last moments of singlehood. Very international clientele and I would add a little Kitch but it was worth it How to get to Malta Obviously we leave from Bari and from here there is a direct flight with Ryanair three times a week (Mon - Fri - Sun) However, one of its main advantages is the fact that it is easily reachable, as the archipelago is well connected with Italy thanks to direct flights that depart from numerous other airports. The others with rooms on the mezzanine floor gave up the stairs, concentrating their muscle warming only for the long walks to discover Malta. where and what to eat For dinner, as always, we were all on a diet, but then we found an understanding at the table: fish for everyone, fried and roasted with every delicacy in the center of the table. We had a divine dinner at Salt & Pepper a sea-facing restaurant in St. Julian's Bay. I must confess that I had already been to Malta ten years ago, appreciating above all its islands of Gozo and Comino and the crystal clear sea. A little minus the part of the nightlife that I had heard about and knew to be transgressive, crowded but for an audience suitable for the bride's age "30 years". Malta by night So a crowd bath in St Julian's where among the thousand bars and night clubs we managed to "get" a table at the SHISHA BAR in the central square. I can certainly say that the Maltese experience can be described with a "before" and " after " the encounter with the Shisha. undisputed protagonist of the second part of the holiday between funny sketches and nice humor that really made us have fun. Boat Trip In a seaside place like this where summer lasts from May to October they couldn't help but give us a day on a boat. In Malta it is easy to organize day trips , with expert skippers. This option is ideal for families and groups : a possibility that gave us the opportunity to explore the coast but also to enjoy a delicious lunch on board. Just go to the port of Sliema and you will find various solutions (private or group) to book your trip or simply get on a boat to adventure. • Malta's Most Enchanting Beaches: A Corner of Paradise in the Mediterranean

For every need: golden sand, rocks and crystal clear waters, relaxation, water sports and uncontaminated nature There are summer getaways and then there are the right summer getaways. The ones where you feel like the protagonist of a novel (maybe written by me when one day I'll be a bestselling author) , sipping a mojito, taking a selfie like in the photo above and above all with the sun kissing my skin and the sea behind me crystal clear and cold. Malta? Malta is just that. A destination in the heart of the Mediterranean that combines history, dream landscapes and different beaches but with crystal clear water. So, prepare your beach bag ( sunscreen mandatory, don't be a heroin addict!) and discover the most wow beaches of this island paradise. For all the information, follow Visit Malta How to get there Obviously we leave from Bari and from here there is a direct flight with Ryanair three times a week (Mon - Fri - Sun). However, one of its main advantages is the fact that it is easily reachable, as the archipelago is well connected with Italy thanks to direct flights that depart from numerous other airports. With an average flight duration of about an hour and a half , Malta allows you to optimize even the shortest bridges, eliminating the long hours of travel that often consume precious days. 1. Golden Bay: the golden kiss of the sun If your Instagram feed needs a little glamour, Golden Bay is the place to be. Golden sand, turquoise sea and sunsets that seem to have come out of a painting. Perfect for those who like to tan like a Greek goddess and then dive into the water with the grace of a mermaid (or at least try). Not to mention the beach clubs, where you can sip a cocktail surrounded by people who are a bit kitsch but perfect for the place. 2. Mellieħa Bay: a paradise for families (and relaxation lovers) Is this a place where the kids can splash around without you having to be in stressed lifeguard mode? Mellieħa Bay has fine sand, shallow water and there is also the possibility of renting a pedal boat or other water sports. Also perfect for those who want to read a book under the umbrella without the risk of being overwhelmed by high waves or sudden winds. 3. Ramla Bay: Gozo's best kept secret If you fancy a slightly wilder adventure, take the ferry to Gozo and head to Ramla Bay. The sand here is not golden, but reddish, creating a striking contrast with the blue sea. If you feel like exploring, there is also the mythological Calypso's Cave , where it is said that Ulysses was enchanted for seven years. And, honestly, after seeing the view, we can understand why. 4. Blue Lagoon: The Turquoise Paradise You Didn't Know Existed You know those postcard photos that make you think: Come on, it can't be true ? Well, the Blue Lagoon is just like that. Water so incredibly blue that it seems like you're swimming in a glass of Curaçao (which is actually pronounced Curasòn) is the result of the distillation of the peels of a particular type of orange , coming from the island of the same name, the main one in the Dutch Antilles archipelago. Perfect for snorkeling, scenic dives and, of course, to make those who stay in the office hate you while you post stories on Instagram with the dream sea in the background. The only flaw: WATCH OUT FOR JELLYFISH 5. Għajn Tuffieħa Bay: the beach worth every single step Getting to Għajn Tuffieħa Bay requires a bit of effort. You have to go down a scenic flight of 200 easy steps, which starts near a free car park, where there is a kiosk, selling drinks and snacks. It is located on the breathtaking north-west coast of Malta, a short walk from the beautiful village of Manikata. The area, however, is also served by buses, which run all day. Here, nature reigns supreme: spectacular cliffs, golden sand and a sea so clear you could see your feet even a meter deep. All without the crowds of a tourist village. 6. Xlendi Bay – Gozo’s Secret Hideout Xlendi Bay is a quiet spot, perfect for those seeking peace and natural beauty. An ancient fishing port, it is now a popular destination for hikers. The bay is flanked by steep cliffs, with crystal clear waters ideal for swimming and snorkelling. I chose to stay a few days to enjoy the breathtaking sunsets over the bay, which are truly a sight not to be missed . The area, although growing, is still quite undeveloped, with a selection of accommodation ranging from apartments to hotels, many of which offer incredible sea views. To fully experience the bay, I recommend climbing the steps that lead to the cliffs to the right of the bay. From there, the view is truly spectacular! And for swimming, dive off the coast between the rocks, with access made easy by a ladder that leads directly into the water. It is located at the end of a deep ravine easily accessible by car or bus from Victoria Hen Party in Malta: 48 hours of pure adrenaline LESS KNOWN BEACHES In Malta there are also lesser-known beaches often located in isolated places where the most authentic nature of the Mediterranean lives. Here you can truly relax in complete silence, lulled by the sound of the sea and the scent of flowers. Let's see together the four beaches that you could visit in Malta off the beaten track Slugs Bay – The Paradise I Didn’t Expect In the north of Malta, in Mellieha, I discovered a small hidden wonder: Slugs Bay . A corner of wild nature that immediately won me over. It envelops you because in addition to the sea you can walk among flowers and centuries-old trees. If you love diving, this is the ideal place, with a crystalline sea that invites you to dive into an underwater adventure with unexpected depths. It is a true secret corner! Santa Marija Bay – Two Paradises in One Island Comino is famous for the Blue Lagoon , but I want to tell you about a gem I discovered: just 20 minutes walk from the lagoon , there is the quiet Santa Maria Bay . The sea is a mix of turquoise and soft sand where it is really nice to sunbathe without fuss in absolute silence. An oasis of peace! Xrobb L-Ghaġin – The Beach Just for Me If you are looking for something truly remote and intimate, Xrobb L-Ghaġin is a possible solution. Located in the Delimara area, in the south-east of Malta, this beach is accessible only by sea. I rented a boat to get there and, once there, I relaxed. Between imposing cliffs and crystal clear water, it is the perfect place to find peace if you have a partner who obviously does not complain or is hyperactive . And after a day of total tranquility, a fresh fish dinner at the port of Marsaxlokk is the icing on the cake. St. Peter's Pool and Kalanka Bay – Treasures of the South If you haven't seen St. Peter's Pool yet, go. The sea is clear. I went snorkeling, the blue and green colors of the seabed are beautiful. The flat rocks around are perfect for sunbathing, for those like me who have difficulty walking on the rocks. While if you are looking for even more tranquility, a few steps away is Kalanka Bay . Turquoise waters, absolute peace and uncontaminated beauty, one of the most beautiful and spectacular natural pools in Malta. Two corners that steal your heart. And, of course, there is nothing better than ending the day with a fish dinner in Marsaxlokk . Did you find this guide useful? • Tenerife: Complete Guide for an Unforgettable Stay in the Canary Islands

Where to go, what to see and how to organize your perfect trip between beaches and recommended activities For my birthday this year I chose Tenerife . Spain always knows how to give great satisfaction, and this island is no exception. But Tenerife is not only a perfect destination for a holiday: it is a place where, at any age, many dream of moving. Beyond the real estate market – where house prices, driven by high demand, can reach between 7,000 and 10,000 euros per square meter – living here is an increasingly concrete idea for many. The infrastructure, especially the road network, is excellent , allowing you to move easily to every corner of the island. The cost of living is competitive , VAT is only 6% , and the climate offers a perennial spring . Sun, sea and efficient services , but not only: Tenerife is an island to live to the full . From the natural pools dug into the rock to the rural parks , such as Anaga , considered by many to be a magical place, up to the majestic Teide reserve, the highest volcano in Spain. To explore I suggest you go by quad waiting for the sunset which is truly exciting. Tenerife in 4 Days: Itineraries, Suggestions and Tips to Discover the Island In my column "A portata di Manu" I propose ideas, experiences and itineraries. Advice and suggestions to ensure a truly unique tour as well as some tips that could be useful to you as soon as you land in this land In Tenerife , in the same day, you can go from the sea breeze of the golden beaches to the biting cold of the peaks of Teide . A microcosm of climates and landscapes in which to organize yourself to survive without getting sick on vacation. Where is Tenerife located? If you are planning a trip to the Canary Islands or simply dream of visiting them, it is useful to know where they are and what to expect from this archipelago. The Canary Islands are a group of Spanish islands located in the Atlantic Ocean, off the northwest coast of Africa. They are part of Macaronesia, a region known for its volcanic landscapes and mild climate all year round. Thanks to their geographical location, these islands enjoy pleasant temperatures in every season , making them an ideal destination for those seeking sun and sea even in the winter months. The archipelago is made up of eight main islands of volcanic origin , each with different characteristics. The best known and most visited are Tenerife and Gran Canaria , suitable for families, couples or groups of friends. Fuerteventura and Lanzarote are famous for their beaches and unique landscapes, while La Gomera, La Palma, El Hierro and La Graciosa offer a quieter and more authentic experience. Even though they are located near the African continent, they are part of Spain and therefore the European Union . This makes them easily accessible for European travellers. Here you can see all the videos on INSTAGRAM The best time to visit them? It depends on personal preferences. We went in mid-March. Thanks to the favorable climate, every season is suitable, but spring and autumn are particularly pleasant to avoid the high tourist season. In my column you will find, in addition to the itinerary that I have organized, also some useful Tips to organize your trip, with advice on how to get there, which island to choose and when to leave. Tenerife for Gourmets: Where to Eat and What to Taste on the Island How to get to Tenerife There are two airports in Tenerife: Tenerife Norte ( Aeropuerto de Los Rodeos ) and Tenerife Sud ( Aeropuerto Reina Sofía ). Memorize this well. No, really. Because if you make a mistake, you could end up like me: landed in Norte , booked a car in Sud and a friendly taxi driver ready to take me on an hour's drive for the modest sum of 100 euros . A welcome souvenir, in short. If you are leaving from Italy and you are in Puglia, know that the closest direct flights depart from Naples and, luckily, land in Tenerife South (Reina Sofia) , the main airport on the island. At least there, no treasure hunt to pick up the car! Or stopover in Barcelona with Vueling There are several low cost companies that connect the main Italian cities to the Canary Islands, such as: Wizz Air, Ryanair or Vueling. Alternatively, many connections include a stopover in Spain. How to get around Tenerife We opted for the rental car , the most convenient choice to explore the island without constraints. Public transport is not always practical if obviously you have a few days and want to see everything without wasting time. We relied on AutoReisen ( autoreisen.com ) or Cicar ( cicar.com ) which at a cost of 20/30 euros per day provided us with a good solution. The service is simple and convenient: no prepayment, no credit card required and free cancellation until the day of departure . After filling out the online form, a confirmation email arrives immediately. Quick, easy and worry-free! During our four days in Tenerife , we chose Puerto de la Cruz , on the north coast, as a base to explore the island and live new experiences. Tenerife in 4 Days: Itineraries, Suggestions and Tips to Discover the Island Tenerife for Gourmets: Where to Eat and What to Taste on the Island If you have a few more days available you can relax in the parks and natural pools Siam Park – Europe’s top rated water park, perfect for those travelling with kids. The park offers a myriad of exciting water challenges ideal for families with teenagers. Siam Beach features the world’s tallest artificial wave. At three metres high, it’s perfect for learning to surf. Loro Park – In the North of Tenerife, Loro Parque was named Best Zoological Park in the World by visitors who voted for it on TripAdvisor. A magical place that is home to over 10,000 exotic animals at risk of extinction, representing over 500 species and subspecies from around the planet. Charco de la Laya – Natural pool without sand almost hidden located in North Tenerife Charco de la Laya - Worth a visit if you are passing through and then stop to eat Canarian cuisine in the taverns of San Juan de la Rambla, Natural beaches of Alcala - Black volcanic beach with a gray color. and pools created by the water. It is located next to a pier with fishing boats, which makes it one of the most picturesque in the area. There are many restaurants specializing in fish and traditional cuisine that are located in the surroundings. Before going to dinner, it is advisable to stay to enjoy the incredible sunsets over La Gomera that can be admired while staying on the beach. Quad Excursions El Teide (SEE ITINERARY) TIPS If you have more than 4 days you can also visit these Tenerife Beaches: Complete Guide for an Unforgettable Stay in the Canary Islands Playa Las Americas: It is a luxury resort on the southwest coast . It is practically impossible to get bored. Its streets are full of shops and bars and the sun invites you to relax on the beach at any time of the year . Playa de Las Vistas, Las Americas, Fanabe - Perfect for a relaxing day, with many services available. Los Gigantes , It is famous for its 600-metre high cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, which extend for 10 kilometres. Visit the cliffs by boat, with the possibility of stopping at Masca beach or spotting dolphins and whales . Info and reservations HERE Duke's Beach – Blue Flag, elegant beach with calm waters. Las Teresitas Beach – (See itinerary) Playa Los Cristianos - (See Itinerary) Playa de Benijo and Playa del Roque (check weather) - Amazing and isolated beaches, perfect for those looking for a wild experience. • 10 Must-Do Things in Ruvo di Puglia

Famous throughout the world for the Jatta Museum, an extraordinary place that enchants the soul with its precious collection. Almost two centuries ago, Ruvo di Puglia, a small agricultural town in the north of Bari, left its mark on history, emerging from anonymity thanks to a chance archaeological discovery. The news of the discovery of grave goods, rich in treasures such as goldsmith's work, bronzes and above all " Etruscan vases" of exceptional artistic value, unleashed an unprecedented treasure hunt at the time. This fervor transformed Ruvo di Puglia into an open-air construction site, where everyone tried to sift through the necropolis, launching into a real race for archaeological loot to grab at least one piece. Photo by Giuseppe Caldarola Alongside the great names of archaeologists of the time, shady individuals appeared who wanted to make lucrative deals. Initially, it was not known where to place the finds, so many of them were placed in the antiquarian trade of Naples. Others found their home in the prestigious Real Museo Borbonico . Many works were unfortunately dispersed to the most renowned museums in Europe and America, such as the British Museum, the Louvre, the Hermitage, the Antikensammlung in Munich and the Metropolitan Museum. The heart of this extraordinary adventure today is the Jatta Museum , an enchanting place that captures the imagination with its precious collection. Today, famous throughout the world for its extraordinary archaeological wealth , Ruvo di Puglia is ready to welcome visitors in the heart of the Alta Murgia Park. What to do in Ruvo di Puglia What to do in Ruvo di Puglia and the Jatta Museum, famous throughout the world for its precious collection?   Photo by Giuseppe Caldarola Discovering the figurations of Greek myths at the Jatta National Museum Photo by Giuseppe Caldarola Ruvo di Puglia is known throughout the world for the richness of its archaeological heritage. In the nineteenth century, it was said that any archaeological collection could not be considered complete if it did not include at least one vase from Ruvo . And so the rich archaeological heritage discovered in its necropolises is now scattered throughout the world's major museums. But here in the city you have the unique opportunity to admire a private archaeological collection - now a national museum - which contains vase finds from the 8th-3rd century BC of exceptional quality, still displayed in the rooms of Palazzo Jatta that were dedicated to it and in its 19th-century layout. Over 2,000 ceramic finds: among amphorae, glasses and other finds, the numerous "craters" of Apulian and Attic workmanship and the absolute masterpiece represented by the Talos Vase are on display. BUY TICKETS HERE   Visit to the Romanesque Cathedral on the day of the summer solstice Also known for its incredibly beautiful Romanesque Cathedral built between the 12th and 13th centuries, Ruvo Cathedral is one of the most representative examples of Romanesque religious architecture in Puglia. It competes for excellence with the great basilicas of Bari, Bitonto or Trani and is often seen published in art history books. It is worth visiting to admire up close the many figures that populate the richly decorated portal, grotesque figures, the lions and griffins that populate the façade and the internal capitals or the decorations of the large rose window at the top. If you are lucky enough to visit the monument on the day of the summer solstice, at sunset you can witness the spectacle of the projection of the sun's rays that, right through the large rose window on the façade, are projected to illuminate the center of the glass and alabaster Cross located in the middle of the apse . It is a spectacle for the eyes but also satisfied is the hearing if you have the patience to attend the concomitant band concert that is organized on the occasion of the Music Festival. But the perception of its beauty remains satisfied at any time of the year!   Encounter with history: the hypogeum of the Cathedral and the Grotto of San Cleto Enter the Cathedral and ask to visit the basement. (Cost 2 euros) The city has ancient origins, dating back to prehistoric times, but it is the wealth of its archaeological finds, the hypogeum of the Cathedral and the cave of San Cleto (a Roman-era cistern with an adjoining thermal complex ) that tell us excellent stories of its thousand-year history. These are two connected structures, both dating back to the 1st century AD; their visit is an encounter with the remote past of the city and its traditions that hand down the spread of the Christian cult. It was St. Peter , returning to Rome from one of his trips to the Holy Land, who met San Cleto, the first bishop of Ruvo who later became the third Pope. Ruvo is one of the most iconic places of Holy Week in Puglia. If you have never seen them, you cannot miss the traditional practices of popular piety that still find expression here in the processional parades on Passion Friday and Holy Thursday, Friday and Saturday . They are the processions of Maria SS. Desolata, of the “Eight Saints” , of the Holy Mysteries and of the “Pietà”. They begin at 2.30 in the morning, from the Church of San Rocco. From here the night procession of the “ Eight Saints” starts, eight figures, in Lecce papier-mâché (one of the largest ever!) which represent the Transport of Christ to the Sepulchre : it is carried on the shoulders through the streets of the city by the bearers of the Confraternity of San Rocco , Until the end of the Holy Week Rites, on Easter morning the Procession of the Risen Christ moves from the Church of San Domenico , organized by the Confraternity of the Sorrowful Purification and followed by joyful children waving flags. • Exploring the cities of Gal Terre di Murgia with a Three Day Itinerary

Between Nature, history and culture that blend together in a unique journey in the heart of Puglia. Welcome to the fascinating Terre di Murgia , a pleasant discovery in the beautiful Puglia region, where the rocky landscape blends with the rich history and vibrant culture of its municipalities. Among the towns that are part of the "Gal Terre di Murgia" Altamura, Sammichele di Bari, Toritto , Cassano delle Murge, Santeramo in Colle and Bitetto the visitor is overwhelmed by the wild beauty of this land and its authentic traditions. Some of these locations that are also part of the "Alta Murgia National Park" have already been explored and described by me in depth, and luckily for you, I have included detailed guides for each of them (click on the name of the town). In this article I suggest you an itinerary of a few days that I experienced thanks to a project of Gal Terre di Murgia that created an area brand "Terre di Murgia - Club di Prodotto" as a strategic tool to enhance the image of the territory in its growth complex. The invitation is to repeat by choosing some of the proposed activities that you liked the most. In my column "A misura di Manu" I propose ideas, experiences and itineraries, but also things to do if you come to these parts whether you are a foreign visitor or a tourist at home. In the article (next to each individual experience) are indicated all the references to book tickets or excursions or guided tours in the area. For those looking for a break from the usual seaside ( which is just a stone's throw away and can always be enjoyed by extending your stay by a few days ) the Terre di Murgia offer a unique experience, ideal for lovers of sport and nature . This territory is crossed by some of the six routes of the Cammino Materano including stage no. 3 Cassano delle Murge - Santeramo in Colle of 22.5 km and the Bitetto Cassano delle Murge of 25 km which is stage no. 2 and stage no. 4 the via Peuceta Santeramo in Colle Altamura where you must venture, an ancient path that crosses these suggestive landscapes, offering you views of the rolling hills and the lush nature that dot the countryside. But it is not only nature that captures attention. Each city of the GAL Terre di Murgia is steeped in history, from the ancient walls of High Wall to the spiritual Bitetto with the visit to the Sanctuary of Blessed Giacomo which literally won me over also thanks to the resourcefulness of its friars who have created in recent years a micro brewery dedicated to Blessed "Jacobus. Brotherhood and Sharing with a taste of Beer " . Birrificio Jacobus Where? In the spaces where Blessed Giacomo worked as a cook right in Bitetto. The initiative is promoted by the Boccale Solidale Association, the result of the collaboration between the Friars Minor of the Convent , the lay people of the Secular Franciscan Order and the members of the Figli in Paradiso Association. Its main objective is to promote solidarity and socially useful activities, such as the integration of people with disabilities and the recovery of historical and artistic assets. You can't miss it and you can't miss tasting its beer. And when it's time to relax and refuel, there's no shortage of culinary delights to savor. I've tried several and have compiled my very own favorite list for you. Enjoy the authentic flavours of Apulian cuisine, from freshly baked focaccia to local cheeses, accompanied by a good glass of Primitivo wine such as that of Tenute Viglione which in Santeramo in Colle since 1937 have produced a collection of wines from Blend to Prestige and finally Riserva. The choice of where to sleep is subjective, but if you are staying a few days or just one night, perhaps Altamura could be the easiest choice, its nightlife is always vibrant and walking there on the weekend is really pleasant. We stayed at the BB San Francesco, a corner of paradise in the heart of Altamura, with welcoming rooms equipped with every type of comfort to satisfy all the needs of the guests. Day 1: Altamura, Toritto, Bitetto Start your journey in the enchanting Altamura , famous for its delicious DOP bread but also known by the name of Leonessa di Puglia : in her story an incredible tale of resistance and tenacity. ---> Special on Altamura <----- The photos are from Antico Forno Santa Caterina which has been baking bread and focaccia at all hours of the day since 1937. In recent times it has become Glamour on a global level and among the various delicacies I invite you to taste a " Must have " the focaccia with eggplant parmigiana . If you book a table you can do the focaccia tasting inside the bakery. In Altamura it is nice to walk in the company of a tourist guide admiring its medieval streets and retracing its history before enjoying a traditional Murgia lunch such as at the Cheese bar Mubhar - artisanal cheeses and wines (click to read my review ) and get lost among the true flavours of the Apulian cuisine of this land, a genuine cuisine, poor but tasty. ( To book ) For coffee and dessert I recommend you move to Toritto . (20 minutes by car). Master pastry chef Vito, from Pasticceria Savoia loves to define his kingdom, " as a place that does not want to be a point of arrival but of departure" . You are in the kingdom of the Toritto almond. Delicious on its own or as the protagonist in the creations of the most refined pastry (try all the almond paste sweets of Savoy) the Toritto almond is a true culinary jewel to be tasted and appreciated with every bite. With great nutritional power, it captures the essence of the Murgia Barese . Already a Slow Food presidium, it comes from the ancient local cultivars such as "Antonio Devito", "Genco" and "Filippo Cea", handed down by generations of Toritto families. The most renowned, as well as the most widespread, is the native cultivar "Filippo Cea", famous for the sweetness of its seed, usually there are always two inside. Immediately after, if you are not tired, you can reach the nearby Bitetto (15 minutes by car). As anticipated in Bitetto I discovered the story of Blessed Giacomo and the solidarity brewery dedicated to him. (All the details here) The visit is unmissable as is the visit to the museum of work that will immerse you in the ancient agricultural customs of the region and to the attached brewery where you can taste beer and talk with the friars about the process used to prepare the beer that today produces about 600 bottles a month. (Brewery Details) The Convent founded in 1432, for about two centuries was inhabited by the Observant Friars Minor and ceded in 1625 to the Reformed Friars Minor. Today it presents itself as a notable architectural complex consisting of: the beautiful seventeenth-century church; the cloister with its frescoes; the convent which underwent significant renovations from 1400 to 1800; a large green park within which there is the Via Crucis, the grotto of the Madonna, the chapel of ecstasy and the waterfall with the statue of St. Francis. After a couple of hours in Bitetto, you can return to Altamura and relax in your hotel and get ready for dinner. Going out on foot is one of the nicest things to do in the historic center of this city. We had dinner at a restaurant "Tre Archi" a corner of Murgia where refinement embraces authenticity Every detail is taken care of with the typical mastery of those who know the value of small gestures. -- > ( click to read my review ) <- - Day 2: A stage of the Cammino Matera with Cassano delle Murge or Santeramo in Colle and a visit to the Grotta del Cristo Acquire the credentials of the Cammino Materano before coming to Puglia. Set your alarm for early morning, put on comfortable shoes and venture into one of the stages of this wonderful Cammino Matera that crosses both the municipalities of Cassano delle Murge and Santeramo in Colle ----> Special Santeramo in Colle <----- All routes are approximately 22 to 25 km per stage - you can choose the three stages that pass through this area. The Peuceta route 3rd STAGE (all the details here) whose stage leader is Paolo Ravano , is the most renowned, at the end of which you can stop for refreshments in a corner of paradise: the Agriturismo Amicizia (if you are closer to Cassano) I assure you one of the most beautiful rural experiences I have had at least so far in Puglia, here is my review. Everything at km 0. Also unmissable during this stretch of the Camino towards Cassano is a visit to the Grotta di Cristo, almost unknown, we visited it because Pierino from Agriturismo Amicizia is the keeper of the keys. (Call him to book a visit) Pierino is also the organizer of the mega beer festival that has been taking place for years in Cassano delle Murge A valid alternative for refreshment during the walk is Masseria Galietti (if you are closer to Santeramo in Colle) surrounded by a large pine forest of about 20 hectares Inside the pine forest there is the tree of thoughts, where it is possible for walkers to enclose their thoughts and emotions inside small suspended bottles. The walker must do nothing but write what he wants on one of the little notes placed in a glass container found on a specially prepared table, and insert it into one of the many little bottles, in this way he will have left a sign of his passage. Contacts Masseria Galietti info@giaccheverdisanteramo.it +39 338 837 6461 3 km from Santeramo In the evening or late afternoon, return to Altamura for a well-deserved rest and dinner in one of the restaurants in the historic center or sip a cicchetto di Padre Peppe . It is a typical Apulian liqueur based on walnuts, produced since 1832 according to the ancient secret recipe formulated in the convent by the Capuchin friar Giuseppe Ronchi. Day 3. Sannicandro and Gravina (outside the Gal but close to Altamura) You can conclude your journey by visiting the Sannicandro Castle, which has undergone a major restoration project that tells the thousand-year history of the region and which has now been transformed into a grand cultural container available to the community of San Teremona. Finally, immerse yourself in the magical atmosphere of Gravina. It is not part of the Gal Terre di Murgia, with its archaeological area on which stands the wonderful Ponte Acquedotto. It is too close to Altamura not to see it for all the details I leave you the --- ->Special Gravina <---- This itinerary will take you on a journey through centuries of history, culture and spirituality, offering you an authentic and unforgettable experience in the cities of Gal Terre di Murgia. Have a nice trip!

  • 10 Things to Do in Altamura

Also known by the name of Lioness of Puglia , Altamura has in its history an incredible tale of resistance and tenacity The fame of its bread, the celebrated " Pane di Altamura DOP" is known to all, but nothing could have prepared me for the deliciousness of that crunchy treasure chest of tradition and its irresistible aromas when it is freshly baked. The process to obtain UNESCO recognition for Altamura bread as a world heritage site has officially begun. This bread, revered as the emblem of the Murgia city , could soon earn a place on the prestigious world list of cultural treasures to be preserved. My adventure in this city began almost by chance, walking through the streets of the historic center in search of artisan bakeries , guided by the irresistible aromas of freshly baked bread. And while I imagined enjoying a slice of authentic Apulian food , heart-shaped, I already knew that Altamura would leave an indelible mark on my heart as a curious traveler. But bread in Altamura is not the only fruit of a tradition that dates back to the 1st century BC! There is also "Ciccillo". An adult male, about thirty years old. In Altamura, his discovery took place in the karst cavity of Lamalunga in the autumn of 1993, when in a natural apse three speleologists found a 150,000-year- old skeleton of Homo neanderthalensis . "Ciccillo", a nickname that resonates through the streets of Altamura like a secret shared between friends and acquaintances . Behind this affectionate name lies the figure of a special person , an individual who embodies the authentic soul of Altamura. "Ciccillo" could be the one who passionately runs the family bakery, carrying on the centuries-old tradition of the famous Altamura Bread. Or perhaps, "Ciccillo" is that picturesque character who animates the squares during local festivities, involving the community with his festive spirit and his ability to involve adults and children in traditional dances. Regardless of the role that "Ciccillo" may play in the life of Altamura, his name is synonymous with authenticity and a connection to the roots. He is the guardian of traditions, the " intermediary between past and present" , the witness of a story that is revealed through daily gestures and moments of conviviality. At the moment, it is the best preserved archaic specimen. And the most desired, because it is not yet possible to extract it from the calcite and coralloid formations that surround it. They call it the Lioness of Puglia. The origin of the nickname dates back to the 18th century. This city similar to France, experienced an important revolution inspired by the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity . In February 1799 , upon hearing the news of the king's escape to Palermo, the Altamurans transformed the city from Bourbon to republican, planting the tree of liberty in Piazza Duomo (no longer visible today) . The Bourbon army intervened led by Cardinal Ruffo, but the Altamurans, barricading themselves and preparing ammunition, resisted. The clash of May 9, 1799 showed the mettle of the minority of the Altamuran forces who, having run out of ammunition, began to shoot coins to resist longer. Founded in the 13th century by Frederick II (to whom we owe the cathedral that stands in the centre of the city, Santa Maria dell'Assunta). We are just over 40 km from Bari and 19 km from Matera , almost on the border between Puglia and Basilicata. Here's how to reach Altamura comfortably with the main means of transport available. The city of Altamura is part of the Alta Murgia Park which in 2021 submitted its candidacy to obtain the prestigious title of UNESCO Geopark. My own adventure, in writing this article, discovering the concept of Geopark has been a journey of knowledge, an experience that has helped expand my information on the territory in ways I did not imagine. What is the Geopark? It is a protected area characterized by a geology of international importance, within which sustainable development is promoted . This initiative embraces responsible tourism, environmental conservation, education and research, focusing not only on geology, but also on biodiversity, flora and fauna present in the area . The aim is to enhance the geological heritage of these lands at a global level. Tour among the Geosites of the Alta Murgia Park At a global level , we can count on 177 Geosites distributed in 46 countries , and among these, 11 are located in Italy. From the website of the ALTA MURGIA PARK You can book your guided tour by directly contacting one of the 20 specialized guides What is the Geopark? A look at the megalithic walls To date, no systematic investigations have been conducted on the megalithic walls of the city of Altamura, so called because of their grandeur and height, so much so that they gave their name to the town. The only official document is due to the archaeologist Francesco Maria Ponzetti who, towards the middle of the 20th century, conducted an excavation campaign along the existing walls. Testimony to the type of fortification of the classical age (5th-4th century BC) , also widespread in other centers of Peucezia, the megalithic walls of Altamura appear as a double circuit: an internal wall, smaller, which enclosed the acropolis, with a development of about 1500 meters, and an external one , larger, which extended for 3600 meters. To be understood as a work made necessary by the particular situation in which the indigenous people of all Peucezia found themselves faced with the expansionist aims of Taranto and the nearby Lucanian and Samnite centers, the megalithic walls are of great importance from a civil and military point of view. The construction technique used involved the use of large blocks (the term "megalithic" derives, in fact, from the Greek: mega, large, and lithos, stone), not rough-hewn, arranged to fit together, then settled dry. The walls were 5.5 metres wide and over 4 metres high. All the information Pro Loco Altamura Visit to the Private Bread Museum It is actually a private museum. This Capuchin friar retired to Puglia, from Naples, with the desire to discover in the Murgia , in its woods, in its meadows, in its waters and in its rocks, a remedy that could soothe or heal the annoyances and infirmities that daily life brings with it. Padre Peppe is made with the fresh green walnuts that can now be seen on the trees. The original recipe tells you to collect 13 green walnuts for each liter of alcohol, between June 13 (St. Anthony) and June 25 (St. John), to put them to macerate in a hermetically sealed container with 13 cloves , 1 nutmeg and 3 grams of cinnamon, and every now and then shake everything and leave to rest in a cool, dark place. It has 42 degrees of alcohol. and in addition to its recognized digestive properties, it is also an excellent tonic. Almost all the families of Altamura have passed down the recipe, each with its own secret. The one who realized that this elixir was something more than a natural medicine was the brother of Friar Giuseppe, Nicola Ronchi, who used the recipe to produce and serve the walnut elixir in his ancient café. The one who pushed the liqueur outside the city walls was Luigi Striccoli , great-grandfather of the current owners, who, by marrying an adopted daughter of Ronchi, inherited the café and the small annexed factory.
